Hi everyone, I know it's been a long time, I have some news for you, not good or bad, just news.
I did abandoned this project for the obvious reasons, I have a life to take care of and two jobs for it to keep it going so not much free time for a project that takes so much time, I simply started by visiting and playing less and eventually stop coming here altogether. It's fantastic to see so many downloads and endorsements for just the beginning which means I'm not the only one displeased about the vanilla hairs or the fancy alternatives.
In face of the recent events about the steam paid mods I've been thinking about what it meant and how it will affect the modding community. I've read many post from nexus, from modders and even the AMA from Gabe in reddit. I've also take my time watching the comments on steam and youtube trying to sort this whole mess in my head. To be upfront honest I still don't how how this will play out, I have doubts and concerns about how it but no real conclusions.
That said I believe the solution might come from the community, people ultimately talk with their money. So what I've been thinking is a way to let people express how they want this to continue. So what I'm gonna do is actually put this mod on the steam paid mods in the "pay what you want" model starting at $0, so basically a donation based mod. My idea is that if the community truly believes that the model steam is proposing to be that bad then they will support the modders in the way they can and that support will be enough for the modding community to strive. I'm not taking this out of nexus and I have to see how can I start asking for donations here as well, but my idea is that if this mod as it is actually makes even one single payout I'll make an effort to continue for a little while longer, maybe finishing one or two more hairs, and if it catches up I might consider getting more time for it and who knows take it far beyond the scope of what it is now.
So yeah, I'm one of those who isn't rejecting nor praising this business model just yet. For one I really think Bethesda dropped the ball on the 25% share for modders, I believe the fair share should be 40% modder, 30% steam, 30% developer. I'm also very concerned about the modding piracy being a thing now. But whats more scary is what the modding community will be one or two years from now. Do I have hope of selling anything on steam or here? No, not really. But I do believe it brings great possibilities, personally it means I could devote more time on doing something I like. So I'll let you decide.
It is a pity... It is a pity that you threw the project. And that I found it just now. I started looking for Meshes of hairdresses long ago, but always found only textures and normal map.
Cryyyyy... I wish you'd taken this further. I would have loved to see the vanilla hair expanded. Maybe some lengthened, better looking up-dos. But real life will always take top priority, in my case as well. This is way late, but wishing you the best of luck.
Creation Club sort of gets you paid fully. A little bit before the upload and after uploading, you're paid after milestones are reached (Nexus' downloads, endorsement milestones and donation features basically). And you get to work side by side with Bethesda's dev team and go through their dev process with them to work on and polish your mod as much as possible. Its basically making your mod (and other people's mods and they will all be made to work together without a hitch) official Bethesda supported/approved content made by the modding community.
I suspect you probably don't even check these comments anymore, and I wouldn't blame you. But, I just want to say, first of all, it's a shame this mod was abandoned, because combined with mods like Superior Lore Friendly Hair, or Bedhead, it makes a *HUGE* difference.
Secondly, for anyone who might be wondering about this... I just converted BVH for use in SSE using Nif Optimiser, and it looks great, along with SLFH and Realistic Hair Colours!
OK cool. I just always take the precaution of converting meshes, it's a really quick process. But, for anyone who is afraid to do that, for whatever reason, that's helpful.
@ClstlDrmr83, As long as you know where you've unpacked the Mesh files, and can navigate to them (same process as anything similar on the computer), it's literally just a matter of hitting a button, and it takes only a few seconds. Seriously, it's one of the easiest mod-related tools out there to learn.
I hope to see you come back to this mod or at least for someone else to do something similar. In the meantime, it's still great work I'm glad have in my game. Thanks!
is there anyway to convert the files to .DDS? i cannot use them at the moment as they seem to be incompatible with the game it self. it also will not let me open them in the creationkit
just frustrated that the one worthwhile mod is just beyond my grasp because of a file extension >_<
Hi, there, sundae. Which textures are you trying to open? As far as I know the download contains only meshes. These meshes tell the game where to place the vanilla hair, according to kebrus' beautiful work. Hmm?
Been looking for something like this. Vanilla meshes are terrible. Vanilla hair looks like .....straw, ie terrible. Yes, you can get new textures, but they do little for the underlying shape.
This is the only mod I found that tries to change the vanilla hairs and have lore friendly replacers, not the stuff out of a L'Oreal commercial with glamour hair. I would donate I couple of dollars probably for a mod like this, if it means having 'vanilla+' hairs that look as awesome as all other overhauls make Skyrim look next-gen, yeah, I would donate.
+1 and if they looked good I would be okay but they don't they look like a plastic wig this mod and vanilla it looks like they have really dirty hair lol but at least it fits the rest of the game
