I engaged the Whiterun guards in an "archery competition" while testing another mod. I noticed that every time a guard armed with a crossbow fired, the arrows for my bow were unequipped. Of course I suspected the other mod first, but the same problem continued after I uninstalled it and tried a new game. The problem did go away after uninstalling this mod. It looks like the reload routine gets applied to the player every time a crossbow is fired, regardless of who fired it, even if the player is not using a crossbow.
Hey - apologies for asking this here, but this is the best way to contact you!
Could you make a mod that when you aim a crossbow, it moves further left so the bolt actually lines up centre screen with the tip pointing at the crosshairs?
This would allow you to AIM crossbow shots looking along the bolt tip as a sight in normal first person camera and with crosshairs off.
It seems simple for someone who knows how to mod (just push the weapon further left) and I guarantee would be a highly endorsed killer mod!
Hi. Why do you even ask me about it? There are many much more experienced modders in the community. I don't think it's simple. Conversely, I think it's impossible. I don't think there is any value that stores the position of the weapon.
Used NMM to add mod; menu shows up in MCM. But crossbow operates as before: shoot, and it automatically reloads.
Tried changing reload key to "9" just to make sure there's no conflict. No change. Tried turning mod off in MCM, saving, reloading, shooting, turning mod back on, shooting, saving, reloading, etc. No change in behavior at all.
Using Dawngaurd DLC, SkyUI, SKSE.
Edit: killed off all other mods, got it working. Conflicts with one of these: Live Another Life, Character Creation Overhaul, PocketWorkstation, Dwemer Goggles. Will try to narrow down over time.
Edit: never got it to work right. Most of the time, auto-loads crossbow as if mod was not installed. When it does appear to work, never shows a bolt in the slot. Sometimes actually unequips the bolt a second after loading it.
Giving up. Too bad, I really did need this functionality.
This mod sounds like it functions much better than the other popular mod. I would have waited at least a month or two before releasing this though because now it will be in the other mod's shadow. You know how people can be. Automatically assuming this is a copycat and writing it off as sucha nd never giving it a chance because the other mod is still fresh in their minds.
I don't think it functions much better at all. It's a lot more script intensive for one, because it has to unequip and then reequip your bolt pouch every time you fire and reload. The other mod's scripts run once to move your bolts into the pouch, and from there simply loads a bolt one at a time. Much less resource intensive. You can also play in 3rd person without seeing your bolt pouch appear and disappear with each shot.
I tested this and must say I am impressed with the simplicity of implementation. Great idea, much better than the other reloading mod which complicated things with an unnecessary extra container. Great stuff, thanks!
::EDIT::
For some reason I am unable to endorse this mod, sorry. It tells me I didn't download it and cannot endorse. Which is obviously not the case
Whilst I was testing this mod, I noticed that I would sometimes have to load the bolt in multiple times before I could fire again. This isn't an issue with that "delay" setting in the MCM menu. I found that I couldn't fire bolts at the default setting of 0.08s, but I simply turned it up to 0.15s and I could shoot. I also made sure that I was standing still when firing, so the animation couldn't have been unintentionally cancelled (which would result in the bolt not being loaded).
TL;dR Fire, Reload, Reload, Reload, Fire, Reload, Fire, Reload, Reload. The reloading with this is quite unpredictable.

Now I have to choose between this, and a mod that empties my crossbow whenever I switch to it
Check my mod with same functionality but without this bug.

Still, it's good to have an alternative.
Not to mention that "auto-add" doesn't run once, because it must check for new bolts in the inventory as well.
