So far nothing game breaking, but I do have a visual bug where the top jaw (the part you lift to open a chest) is under their feet until they're killed. The tongue is also nowhere to be seen. Once they're killed, they tongue appears and the jaw snaps back into place where it's meant to be. Very strange.
Requirements: Mihail's Mimic & Ooze mod OR Mihail's Chest Mimic mod Base Object Swapper (this mod does nothing without it) SMIM (or atleast the chest textures) Powerofthree's Papyrus extender
So I reviewed the smim mod and cross referenced the SWAP ini in this mod to see if I could figure out the exact textures I need so I do not have to use the entire SMIM mod. I tried using a custom installer for SMIM but it still forces more than just the vanilla chest textures this mod needs.
these are in the SWAP ini and in SMIM I believe the textures are found in 00 CORE and 40 Furniture chests folders. I just copied them and put them in a new texture folder and added this folder over to the better mimics folders ( where mimic and ooze fomod common etc are). I did not keep the meshes only the dds files which are the textures! If I did this wrong please correct me, but I think this will allow people to use this mod without using smim in its entirety, still please endorse this and the smim and mihail mods!
How to make mimics unspawnable ? I've got in a collection list and can't disable it without getting full crash the game, and sadly enough, this mod is just quest breaker... So i'm sorry, but except than "disable the mod", how to make mimics doesn't spawn, or at least, repair the damage it cause in quest requirement ?
Hey, so all variants except for the Vanilla chest mimic are textureless (the chests specifically, not the bodies). I'm currently downloading the latest version of SMIM in hopes that That's what's causing it, but while I wait, I figured I'd ask in-case you have a more definitive answer to my issue.
This is super immersive but I definitely wish there was something, anything, I could actually look for to be able to tell it's a mimic without triggering it awake. Feels like that's a skill that an adventurer should be able to have. These things are tough lol
Is there a chance the mimic will replace a quest-related chest? I think Mihail mimics are hand placed for this reason. Some quests have some items, such as keys, that can only be obtained from some chests.
Just to chime in on this one, and I can't imagine a fix for it, but this can break certain quests.
Specifically radiant quests. Had one from notice board or missives that required a dagger being retrieved. The chest turned into a mimic. Once killed the dagger was there, but it didn't update the quest to the next stage. The quest marker still showed where the chest was originally located.
Requiring either a reload or a console command to nudge it to the next stage.
This happened to me in one of the Forgotten Dungeons Quests. I can access the quest item off the Mimic corpse, however, the quest doesn't recognize this as fulfilling the requirement and will not advance the stage of the quest. Knowing Mihails are hand-placed, I opened the Swap File and set all the chances at zero, but still allow it to swap with Mihails placed spawns. After this playthrough I will most likely remove Mimics altogether from my Mod List. I do prefer the random chance, but compromising quests is a deal breaker. Anyone with an incompletable quest in the journal, Hide those Futile Quests worked great for me.
No, its NOT a big warning. That is quite literally EVERY mod for Skyrim. You remove a mod and it alters your entire LO. This WILL break something. Never mind something like this that has scripts. This is YOUR failure.

Update: SMIM didn't fit it.

Great mod and concept.

Removing near any mod will break a save of not done exactly so. And removing a mod with scripts is doubly likely.
If you remove any mod and it breaks the save, that's on you, ot the mod.
Can't believe this is even a conversation on 2024.
