Sorry to bump this comment a year later, I've been trying to patch this to work with HPH to no success. If anyone figured this out, I'd really appreciate a step by step tutorial for noobies like me. If not, well, no worries.
Hey! I love the idea of the mod, but I think I may have tried using it for the wrong reasons. I'm trying to distribute ONLY the beards of power to all NPCs, since I'm already using the Modpocalypse NPC overhaul. I tried extracting the BSA and placing this mod at a lower priority than the overhaul I'm using, but I still get black faces, even after attempting to create a patch myself to transfer only the beards. I suppose this mod doesn't work with other complete NPC overhauls, right? And if it's possible, I'd like to request the ability to distribute only the beards using something like SPID, without the overhaul. Thanks, friend!
What you described is exactly what Nordic Beards does: it takes the vanilla NPCs and adds Beards of Power to them. That's it, nothing special. Nordic Beards can be overridden just fine by other overhauls (eg: I use Beef Unending).
After you made your patch, did you regenerate FaceGen? If you didn't, you'd get the BlackFace bug.
One thing to note with patching NPC overhauls: You can't mix/match NPC headparts if the other mod you're patching against created their NPCs in Racemenu. Eg: If you took an NPC from Pandorables and added a Beards of Power beard in xEdit/CK, then regenerated FaceGen, you'd see the resulting NPC doesn't look anything like the original Pandorables mod. You would have to get the original files from the author and add the beard in Racemenu.
I don't know if this is the case for Modpocalypse, but YMMV. The SPID idea is interesting, not sure how possible it is.
Cool man, thanks for the reply. I'm fairly new to the modding scene, still learning to navigate it, I'll check it out on how to regenerate FaceGen and get back to you if it works. Thanks a lot!
Generating FaceGen in the CK is a quick one-time hit, while FDF will be a hit every time you play, either via a longer load screen or worse. I'd recommend you try the former, but yes in a pinch FDF will do its job.
Fair point, but I'm not going to repack the mod for one NPC right now though. If you want to remove his beard just delete the FaceGen files and remove his entry from Nordic Beards.esp. Or use EasyNPC.
Request please if I may. So I want to do a play though As Ysgramor and the weapon is easy enough to get as you get it though the Companions quest line. I found an armor mod on here so that's done. That just leaves his long curled up beard. I looked on here and did a Google search but nothing came up. So that brought me back here to find mods that made beards and then filtered to find an active modder and that brought me to you to ask for your help.If you can then a BIG THANKS! But if you can't or don't want too then I understand.
I really like this mod but unfortunately my game kept freezing with it installed. I figure it was because i used 'True to vanilla NPC overhaul' but even when disabled and using nordic faces instead it still froze. Gonna miss my bearded men..
Nordic Beards shouldn't cause that. Probably a different install issue. What are you doing when it freezes? Are you in-game or in-menu?
This is how you can debug: * Start the game * From the main menu, enter "coc riverwood" in the console * Spawn an NPC, enter "player.placeatme 001a694" for Farkas, or type "help farkas" to get his ID. Going off memory here. * If you crash during this, slowly peels mods away until you don't crash
I did try this. The thing is, not every character had this issue. Farkas, Vilkas and the vast majority of NPCs were completely fine, but some NPCs just caused the game to freeze. The consistent ones i narrowed down was Benor in Morthal and the guy in the temple of Mara. Benor froze my game several times whenever i would get near him (in-game, not menu). The moment i disabled him in console commands the game worked just fine again. I tried using SSEedit to find out which mods were affecting him and only nordic beards and True to vanilla were the ones to do it. I even tried starting a new game and going near him to test whether the mods i had installed in this playthrough caused an issue and my game froze everytime. It was only when i disabled Nordic beards that my game stopped freezing. Its probably not this mod itself that is the issue and it most likely is a compatibility issue with some other mod, But i spent a long time trying to figure it out and unfortunately removing this mod did the trick.. It might also be an installation issue, im not sure, but i am doing a new playthrough and when i have gotten some playtime in this playthrough i can check whether Benor still causes a freeze now. The reason i think it might be an incompability with True to vanilla NPC is because its the exact same type of freeze that that mod has with the character of Calcelmo.
Check if any meshes/textures from Nordic Beards are being overwritten by a different mod. Also make sure to check your MO2 overwrite folder in case something was dumped there.
I just tested spawning Benor on a clean save, with Nordic Beards as my only NPC mod, and there was no problem.
I had a look and it turned out some of the plugins weren't enabled for some reason. I use vortex and installed the mods the same way I do every other mod. Odd that it didn't enable them. They were shown enabled in the mods list, yet not in the plugins list.

I've simply downloaded only this mod and the original. do I need to download anything else?
