Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to save the text. I can type some up, but when I go to save the text it tells me it cannot because I don't have the most recent Papyrus, but thing is I do. I made sure of it. I don't know if I have something else interfering but there's nothing I can think of.
Anybody else have an issue getting stuck in the open note/journal? I had it happen quite a few times, and at first I thought maybe it was related to making multiple edits at once, but then I started trying to make it happen and it seemed totally random. At one point it worked fine for ~2 hours, then I had it happen 5 times in a row. I played with the load order, checked for conflicts in MO2 and xEdit, and I can't nail down what's causing it. I'd make a bug report but at the moment I don't have enough information to even say it's a bug. I don't use Take or Read or Souls Unpaused, either.
EDIT 11/11: All right I just lost 4 hours of a save because it randomly decided to not let me close the journal again even though it had been working just fine, so I give up. Hopefully somebody else can figure it out.
Has anyone been able to find a solution this? I'm currently having the same problem, luckily at the start of a game so I can just take the mod out of my load order and start again. But I'd really like to use this mod if I can.
To be clear, I can play the game normally, but upon opening an editable note, I get stuck. I can use the hotkey to access the menu, edit text, etc. But it gives me the options "M1 and M2" to change pages, "E" to take (even though it's in my inventory already), and doesn't have any kind of exit button. I don't have Read or Take enabled, but I am using Lexy's LotD modlist, so it's probably some kind of conflict.
I have this same problem. Maybe one out of every two or three times, it gets stuck open and I have to force the game closed and restart. When it works, it's awesome. I'm going to keep using it, but if anyone can find a solution for this problem, that would be really nice.
Honestly I just went back to using Take Notes. I have a feeling this is one of those problems that either has no simple fix or can't be fixed at all. Be nice to be proven wrong about that, but it is what it is; sometimes the code gremlins win.
Im having a problem getting images to work, Keeps claiming that I need to add a folder to the ini, but as far as I can tell, the ini is properly set up for it, Not entirely sure how to solve this Otherwise its a neat mod
Which error message specifically are you getting? Also make sure all requirements are installed and are the correct version for your skyrim game version.
Edit: Forgot to add that the error was "no folder paths found in the ImageTags section in Settings.Ini. Please update to insert image tags.", for future reference Original Post: I did some further testing on a clean install with just this mod and its requirement, and found out I was missing the Papyrus Ini Manipulator . Added that and the problem was resolved ^^'.
That said, I do have a strange issue where, after clicking the quill to make a note/book, I have to hit tab to before the creation menu opens up. Its not really a big deal, was mainly curious of this is a known thing or not, Its wholly useable with this (Especially after adding All the requirements) and is quite a neat mod
I'm using this with Enderal and it seems to work most of the time, despite the occasional CTD when opening a crafted book (so I just quicksave whenever interacting with the mod). Perfectly immersive way to write an in-character diary. I love that it integrates some previously useless clutter. The only issue I notice is that the menus take a very long time to open / adjust for some reason (while those from other mods in MCM run much more smoothly). Sometimes the alt key to bring up the crafting menu also seems to get "stuck" so that pressing it even without having a book open does just that, which can interfere with other mods placed on alt such as TK Dodge. Reloading fixes this though. At other times, game gets stuck on the regular book screen (tab or esc won't get you out), at which point I have to bring up task manager to force it to close and reload again as well. Note that in the latter scenario, you can still export your text before since the note crafting menu still works, so you don't lose what you have written.
Why do you craft paper at the cookpot? Pretty counterintuitive. Tried the smelter and tanning rack first before I noticed that.
Given what a huge endeavor this must have been, I'm surprised that it isn't more clunky than it is. It has some bumps in it, but ultimately, it works. I had an issue with exporting and importing at first. I could've sworn I did an export correctly, then moved it from my Overwrite folder in MO2 to the correct spot, but then the .txt file was blank, which was weird. Probably user error on my part, because I deleted it and tried again, and it worked, and I was able to import the file just fine in game. I also had the conflict others had with the Read or Take mod, but followed advice in the comments here and fixed it quickly. On a couple of occasions, I also had to drop a note/book from my inventory and pick it back up before I was able to edit it again, which I see others had to do here as well.
But honestly, again, given what a huge project this must have been, I'm so, so, so happy that I can now make my own notes, letters, and books in-game. Previously, all I had was the Take Notes mod, which I still intend to use, but this mod is just awesome. My new favourite thing. Thank you so much. Endorsed x100 if I could.
Edit: Forgot I have a question. For the "list" option, it puts a little square in front of each line. Is that supposed to be a dot or a checkmark or something, or is it intended to be a little square/rectangle? Or maybe it changes depending on the font you're using? I guess I haven't experimented with that yet, but was curious.
New issue; not a crisis, but super weird: When I start a new character, they have my exported Note Crafting books/notes in their inventory at the start.
That was a requested feature of the mod. Change the bAutoImportOnInstall in the [main] category in Data/interface/NoteCrafting/Settings.ini to 0 to disable. Glad you like the mod! Yes it can be a bit clunky but this is largely due to how the game treats and saves objects, especially if they're in a container such as your inventory. It's supposed to keep persistent objects, which these notes and journals are loaded even when in a container but it doesn't always work.
Ahh, I see. Thanks! It wasn't a big problem, it just surprised me! I think I'll keep it active, actually. I can always drop everything I don't want in a container in the Alternate Perspective room before I choose a start option and leave, and it will save me having to craft the ones I want all over again. Handy feature, actually.
I was so much looking forward to this mod but it doesn't seem to work for me :(. The notes appear in my inventory and I can theoretically put in text and title etc. but when I try to read the note it either closes instantly or opens with an empty text. I triend opening it and waiting after it closed automatically but it did not work. I just updated every requirements and this mod. :/
The same was happening to me. It was the "Read or Take" mod.
The author says that you must ensure to select "Read" as the default option. Yet, as I didn't know how to do that, I just disabled "Read or Take" and Note Crafting worked for me.
Another thing I did that could be helpful is ensuring that I had "ConsoleUtilSSE NG", because the first time, I was quite confident that I had it because I used to see "ConsoleUtilSSE" in my load order and many other mods' requirements lists. I think that perhaps the "NG" version is important and different from the regular ConsoleUtilSSE.
You don't need to disable the mod. I just edit file po3_ReadOrTakeBooks.ini (folder \Vortex Mods\skyrimse\Read or Take SKSE-69588-1-4-0-1716187218\SKSE\Plugins) and replace line "Default action = 0" by "Default action = 2". It work for me.
Awesome, I was looking for a journal mod that has a copy & paste feature. I didn't try it a lot yet, but it worked as intended so I hope it stays that way. Edit: After using it a few weeks, it does work but there are some annoying issues such as the notes or journals not opening from the inventory, having to drop it first and then open it for it to work. Same with the text, sometimes it won't show up when opened from the inventory. So, it's useful to keep for roleplaying reasons such as creating notes, but too unstable to use for regular journal entries.
I found this problem too, and your solution worked. I was able to edit a note once or twice, but after that, I have to drop the note and pick it back up before I can access the menu again to edit it. But it does work, ultimately.
Amazing mod my friend !! I love this !! Works perfectly. The ability to add pictures is perfect. I am so glad I stumbled across this and it will defiantly be staying in my load order through any play though..
Hello, it's a great mod you've conceived here! I'm installing it on LE, and it works. I'm reporting some strange behavior, maybe because of mods interaction idk.
So anw, this mod teleports you to another cell, and inside this cell I had a custom container put in by another mod. I store a note there (name changed, text written), but after a game relaunch, when I re-access the cell, it seems to revert to the original name when it was first created (like note 1, brown journal 3, etc) uneditable. It'll become editable only when I take the note, save, and relaunch the game, but the note's content is unrecoverable.
The same mod that puts a custom container also has this mode, which allows you to access any containers allocated on its storage cell via a linked container you put on another cell. When I put the note there, the note content is safe across relaunch.
Fortunately, I still have some old saves when the note is still in my inventory, so I export it and send the information to the future, without affecting any reality via the 4th dimension that is /Interface/NoteCrafting folder.
