"How did it feel, strapping that thing to your back and flying like a bat out of hell?"
--Howard Hughes

Legends tell of the great Dwemer airships that once hung in the skies above Vvardenfell; immense warships that cruised through the air. It is said that they carried skilled warriors known as Rocketeers, lightly-armored fighters that would drop into the battlefield from the sky, descending with sophisticated packs that spit flames and held them aloft as they fell.  These warriors could turn the tide in battle, dropping behind the enemy line and causing chaos as the airships rained fire from above. When the Dwemer disappeared, the secrets of their airships and the Rocketeers who flew them disappeared as well.  But there are rumors from 200 years ago, of an airship that wrecked in the mountains of Solstheim...

Inspired by a unique Dwemer Armor created by 4thUnknown (the helmet specifically) I decided to make a fun little armor mod based on the 1991 film 'The Rocketeer.'  The armor is a pretty basic mashup of vanilla parts, using a retexture of the Dark Brotherhood armor and a semi-custom jetpack and helmet.

This mod adds a new set of armor, loosely based on The Rocketeer's outfit.

-The outfit is mostly leather and the helmet and jetpack are Dwemer-inspired.

-All armor pieces can be modified to change them from Light to Heavy armor (The default outfit is Light, while the helmet and jetpack are Heavy.)

-All armor pieces can be crafted from scratch, but you need to have both the "Dwemer Smithing" perk AND the ability to craft Dwemer crossbows.

-I only added enchantments to the jetpack; everything else is unenchanted.  I was going to add specific perks and resistances pertaining to it being a "flight suit", but I figured most people would rather just be able to enchant it themselves.

-There is also a one-handed crossbow and a saber inspired by the film.

To find the Rocketeer Armor, look for a letter in Calcelmo's laboratory that will point you in the right direction.

The armor is found on a dead Rocketeer in the "Strange Vessel" found in Solstheim (the remains of the "Patchwork Airship" from Morrowind.)

-There is no real quest associated with this mod; you simply find the armor and that's it.

-Most promotional art (and the original comic) shows The Rocketeer's jacket as being very much RED, but in the actual movie it is very clearly a brown leather.  I went with the brown leather as a default, but you can change it to red at the forge (and change the red back to brown.)

--The jetpack has a limited functionality.  When equipped, it will add a spell (a power) that is a sort of jump-jet ability; it launches the player forwards and upwards.  The jetpack also adds a perk that will negate any fall damage (No guarantees about falling from EXTREME heights.)

-I did not bother to attempt true flight functionality; there are other mods to do this better than I could.

-When installing, you might get a message to overwrite a script called "MANDPackScript".  This is just a simple script that adds/removes spells when you equip/unequip an item, and I use it in several of my mods.  Just go ahead and let it overwrite; it shouldn't change anything.

-Sometimes the one-handed crossbow can cause a crash if you fire too quickly; still trying to figure out why.  (I think I fixed this, let me know if it happens to you.)

-There is no specific helmet model for beast races; but it DOES work. Just imagine they can squish their snout up in there somehow.

-There is some clipping between the neck of the helmet and the flightsuit.  This is actually a vanilla issue between the Dawnguard helmet and the Dark Brotherhood armor.  I will try to tweak this when I get a chance.

-The jetpack does not have matching ground item models.

-The jetpack boost doesn't always fire correctly, especially if you try to spam it quickly.

-I might add more of a quest to this, but probably not.

-I would like to do a patch that combines this with one of the "flight" mods out there to make it a truly functional jetpack.  We'll see.

Here are a few essential mods to get the full experience:

Spoiler:
Show
Dwemer Jetpack - Grungehog
>This makes slightly more sense lore-wise than mine.  I might add some sort of patch to integrate this with the actual Rocketeer model.

Real Flying - Anton0028
>This would probably be the cleanest way to implement a proper flying mechanic.

Levitate Toggle
>This is one of the simplest flying mods I've seen and would make a lot of sense for jetpack combat.  Uses your magic to fly, which doesn't *vague mumbling* lore-friendly but I think it could work

Dev Aveza
>No Rocketeer is complete without an airship!

As always I could never do this without all the modders that have come before and created such amazing content.  A million thanks for doing all the hard stuff!
