About this mod
A cloak spell which completely saps nearby enemies of their Magicka. ESL-flagged.
- Permissions and credits
Adds a Master-level Destruction cloak spell to the game which completely depletes the magicka of nearby enemies. Similarly to vanilla cloak spells, followers and non-hostile NPCs are unaffected. Dwemer constructs are also unaffected. (See optional files for Novice and Lesser Power versions).
I made this because couldn’t find anything similar that I liked. The mod was initially made just for myself, but in the end, I decided to polish it up a bit publish it.
The spell emits a deep humming sound effect to convey the notion that the energies whirling around the caster are pure magicka. Some may find this too sci-fi like – see the ‘Compatibility & technical details’ section below if you want to change it.
Obtaining the spell in-game
Currently, the only way to obtain the spell is via the console. Type:
help "Magicka Vortex"
and its ID should turn up. You can add the Spell Tome with
player.additem <Spell Tome ID> 1
or you can add the spell directly with
player.addspell <Spell ID>
If there is a demand for it, I can add the spell tome to the levelled lists. If you have any ideas for a lore-friendly way in which the player could obtain this spell, I’m all ears.
Compatibility & technical details
This mod should be compatible with almost anything. No vanilla records are modified.
The Spell Tome works out of the box with Immersive Spell Learning (I prefer the DESTified version).
Although the mod comes as an .ESP file, its form IDs have been compacted and it is flagged as .ESL, meaning it will not count towards your load order limit.
The mod comes with unpackaged (i.e., loose) asset files. The meshes and textures are modified versions of the vanilla Flame Cloak assets. If you want to change the humming sound emitted by the cloak, replace the only sound file among the mod’s loose files.
Regarding my other mods
I’m enormously grateful for how well this community has received my other two mods, Dark Destiny and Seeking The Cure. On the mod page for Seeking The Cure, I sketched out some (perhaps overly) ambitious plans for future mods.
Unfortunately, life is sometimes busy, and developing, testing, and polishing quest mods is very time-intensive – especially compared to a quick mod like Magicka Vortex. I therefore cannot give a time frame for when I will be back to developing quest mods. Hopefully when my daytime workload stabilises.
