Apart from some light fixes and disabling of things that weren't ready yet, nothing about this re-upload is different from what was taken down. The bugs, clutter, unfinished-ness is still there. But I hope that it brings those of you kind souls who took the time to reach out – not to ask for her to be brought back, but rather to tell me how much you loved Feris and appreciated your time spent with her – some peace. I hope to fix and add at some unknown point in future. Thank you.
The short of it – I had accomplished what I had set out to prove to myself: Whether or not it was possible for me to create a custom follower for a game I’d valued since its release. I had also run out of steam. I had nothing left. She was buggy, unfinished, cluttered. Things need changed, fixed, re-written. I didn’t have it in me. I didn’t want to leave her up unfinished; nobody likes downloading a known malfunctioning product. A week after deletion my mind was at peace. Feris is my first mod. I am a beginner who knows very little about the modding community aside from what I’ve learned since my start. If you have even opened the Creation Kit before, you comprehend how challenging it can be. I'd felt accomplished at having learned what I'd learned and happy to leave things alone.
And then, out of nowhere, the ideas suddenly started to flow again. There's some steam. Slow going, but the train will move at some point.
a valiant effort my friend, i use ck occasionally and have just gotten the hang of navmesh and its a headache , let alone a complete follower. 10/10 for the effort.
Glad to see you back, and feeling better about the undertaking! And I'm glad to have Feris back too, of course. It's wild how quickly she became a favourite of mine. To continued adventures, through Skyrim and the CK!
Though I never got around to playing with Feris the first time around, I'm so glad you came back to polish the mod to a mirror sheen. :D I know what it's like to burn out on a creative project and just want it to be done, so it's a little inspiring to me personally to see you pick up your tools and get back to it. Thank you.
Might be me feeling sappy today, but at least know that the silent majority of mod downloaders (the ones that don't post, that don't b&@*$ about bugs caused by their LOs, or complain about decisions the modder wanted to do) appreciate what we get when we get it, without feeling like we're owed anything. We recognise modding is not a job, it's a hobby, and you (and every modder) shouldn't have to treat it like it has KPIs.
(Im curious about one thing, tho, are all first person camera mods likely to conflict?)
Hey, I've been enjoying your follower quite a lot this playthrough! I appreciate the more "friend for the journey" approach and it's been a blast so far. I have a quick question though - Feris mentioned something about an old camp of hers South of Riverwood. I must've spent at least an hour walking in that general area and I'm unable to find the spot, probably my own fault. May someone give me some other directions or clues where to look for it? I can't seem to ask Feris about the directions or hints again.
Hey, thanks for taking Feris with you. This quest is unfinished so you can unmark it for now, but the intent is for it to lead to an unmarked cave past Anise's Cabin, close to the water. If you downloaded the mod part way through a playthrough, the necessary Aliases won't load to take you up to where the quest currently leads anyway. You're not missing out on anything, fingers crossed it will be resolved in the next update someday.
Ah, I see. Thank makes sense, thank you! Interestingly enough though the mod was added on a fresh install and the only quest related to Feris that I have in my journal is the "Find Feris" one which I assume is there just to make it easier to track her if she gets lost somehow. Either way, thanks again. Hoping updating and curating the mod goes well and stress free for you!
Interesting, good thing it's not finished haha. Thanks for letting me know. Yes, the Find Feris marker is just so it's easier to find her. Thank you, appreciate it!
I just want to give my appreciation for this mod you've taken on creating entirely yourself. Honestly, Feris is cool as hell, and I am quite glad to have her in my game honestly! I've always loved having followers in my game that are just friends to have along the way, to get to know the character, their story, and to have them make the world and your adventures feel alive! Thank you for making this mod, amazing voice acting, and amazing work! I wish the absolute best in your endeavours and progress going forward
I had a conversation option for her, like "you look lost in thought" or something similar, i backed out to quicksave, but it has not appeared again, even days later. Did something go wrong?
The line is "You look deep in thought", and it's actually the start of her first personal quest (though a dialogue only quest). As it won't be flagged as completed, I would have thought it would trigger again, but as you have waited a few days, maybe not. Are you able to reload an earlier save? If not, the quest ID is CS03FerisPQ01 if you want to try to force start it.
Hi and thanks for the reply. I tried setstage to her quest but nothing happened, even when i set it to 20,30, 40, 51 etc. I tried to force the Dialogue line with "say" but that didnt do anything either... so rolled back the save 4h oof :)
As of this version, the dialogue option is offered once and will not repeat once selected. I'm looking into contingencies. Reverting to a previous save is unfortunately the only way to go back to it for now, sorry you had to find that out the hard way! Other things to keep in mind are the conditions, the dialogue will only be offered if certain conditions are met. I've since changed them but I believe it was something to do with it being a specific time and it being raining. In any case, happy you're enjoying her so far.
I don't know either. It was reported a few months ago and neither the user experiencing it or I could figure out why it was happening. I'm unable to diagnose load order issues or why specific mods clash/are not compatible, so someone more experienced than I may be able to figure it out one day.
Hi there! I had left some comments about small bugs on the other Feris page and I feel like I need to tell you how much I adore her!! I was waiting to finish my long playthrough to post a comment about the full experience and what I like about having her as a follower but I'm going to talk about it now: Feris is a special kind of follower where all of the simple things are there and they come together to make a memorable character. Sometimes I dismiss her to travel with another follower but I always end up bringing her back for an adventure or two because I find her presence soothing. This mod is clearly made with love and care and I wanted to thank you for sharing your passion! I make art and I kinda understand how important it is to hear this kind of feedback so please know that I mean it when I say your work here is important. Best wishes and, you're courageous, you know that? Not many people plunge into mod dev like you do
You got me at the end there, I had a good giggle. Thank you for your kind words and for your support! If she contributes to gameplay even a little, she's achieved what I've hoped she might. I appreciate you bringing her along when the time is right! Thank you for this feedback; you are right, sometimes it is important to hear it. ♥
is starting a new game really necessary?? I'm at the middle part of the story and came across this today and I've done plenty of follower quests too so I don't want to start fresh now. fantastic mod btw an thank you for putting it up again.
It says "Experience will be better", not that you can't do it. I'm guessing that this is going to be like other custom followers, who have quest commentary, in that you may get random comments, about things that you have already done, as the ai catches up. You may also miss out on some content/dialogue. I have never started a new game for any follower mod, and have not had a problem so far.
For the current version of the mod, starting a new game is recommended but not necessary. Adding the mod to a game that's already part or most of the way through will simply skip dialogue and potential quest opportunities. Appreciate the download!
Any hints as to what her load order should be? I'm trying to add her to my Nolvus Ascension, which shows her installed and enabled, but she displays as disabled in the in-game mod manager and doesn't appear in the bannered mare... :(
I can't speak for Nolvus specifically, but generally you want follower mods as far down in your load order as possible. For me, my follower mods are right above mods that change the landscape (custom houses, etc), my map mods, final patches for my modlist, my Synthesis patch, and DynDOLOD.
I unfortunately cannot diagnose load order issues, but my understanding follows what KittenGrey has said - it may be better for the mod to be as low in your load order as possible.
ok i just missed that then when i looked at the description im persoanlly a fan of chooeys replacer of her but im sure that he makes her slightly lighter skin tone so im sure it wont be allowed sadly
It just means that you can't create a replacer, it doesn't mean you can't use one that already exists, although she is unlikely to offer any support if you have problems in using it. However, please bear in mind that Chooey's replacer was made for the old version of Feris, so probably won't work with this version anyway.
As mentioned above, I request that anyone looking to make a public replacer for Feris reach out to me for permission. The replacers that are out now, their Mod Authors have either spoken with me or created it before I implemented my new modification permissions.

Anyway - thank you again for your great mod!
Thanks for Feris!

Thanks anyway! Teach me to back out of topics! ;)
Edit: 20 min after rolling back, there we go!
