To craft tomes, visit Dragonsreach in Whiterun and find the Sagecrafting table to the right of the entrance, near where the servants sweep. You can craft your own tomes there, based on your skill in a given school of magicka. The tiers are Novice, Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, and Master. Novice starts unlocked, and the others unlock at 25, 50, 75, and 100 in their respective schools of magicka.

Restoration and Destruction tomes scale magnitude, while Illusion, Alteration, and Conjuration all scale duration as well as magnitude.


For the people who want to be spoiled -- List of unique tomes, their effects, and their locations:

Canid - Potema's Chant - Remember my name. Conjuration spells are 20% more effective and cost 50% less to cast. - Potema's Sanctum

Paradise - Paradise - Free your mind. Alteration spells are 20% more effective. All skills increase 10% faster. - The museum in Dawnstar

Ancient - Tome of the Aedra - Shielded by faith. Restoration spells are 20% more effective. Take 10% less damage in combat. - The Talos shrine near Pinewatch

Dreamer - The Dreamer's Verse - I am always watching. Illusion spells are 20% more effective. Sneaking is 20% better. - Nightcaller Temple

Regal - Dragonblood - Destruction spells are 20% more effective. Deal 10% more damage with weapons. - Delphine's safehouse in Riverwood.

Flesh - Flesh and Blood - Great power at great cost. All spells are 30% more effective. Take 20% more damage in combat. - Nchuand Zel Quarters

Black - The Wanderer's Guide - Luck runs out. 10% chance to negate incoming damage. 5% chance to double it. - The pit outside Halted Stream Camp

Arcane - The Archon's Tome - My crown is yours. All spells are 15% more effective and cost 15% less to cast. - College of Winterhold, the Arcanaeum

Once you have these tomes in your inventory, you can visit the sagecrafting table to either switch them from right to left, or to craft unenchanted copies of them so you can make your own using the covers on the unique tomes.

-- Alternate Meshes folder --

In meshes\armor\Equippable Tomes you'll find a folder called Alternate Meshes. These are tighter meshes in case the books don't cling to your character tightly enough by default. They're numbered from least tight to most tight, with 0.5 folder being the least tight (but still tighter than default) and 2.0 being the most. You can use these by copy and pasting them into the meshes\armor\Equippable Tomes folder.
