Thanks so much. I've literally checked for a mod like this about a dozen times in the past month (I'm useless at making mods). Baffles me that Bethesda made guards okay with wanton murder right in front of them.
But the guards don't know that. If they knew you were a thief, they'd arrest you. From their perspective, a random person on the street is getting attacked by thugs. Even if they knew you were a thief but didn't have enough proof to arrest you, vigilante justice is still illegal and would require guard intervention.
In a world such as Tamriel, where you can blatantly hire Assassins, I don't think it's really an issue. Given the nature of hiring Mercenaries, a fully-equipped group would be recognised as such, and the Guards most likely do know who they are. They would have needed to enter the city/town in the first place. I mean you, one person, got stopped at Whiterun before entering. I'm certain a group of three-to-four Mercenaries would have as well.
Not trying to make it sound like the mod is pointless, far from it. That's the joy of mods. You can do what you want. But just making a point that Mercenary groups are as common as other folk, and the vast majority are under some form of official contract. Written word is everything in Tamriel. That's why Assassins carry writs, and why Mercenaries carry contracts. They are obligated to carry out the contract, and Guards let them do so. And in Skyrim, fighting, brawling and "settling arguments" with violence are commonplace. It's a rather large part of Nord culture. I mean Ulfric waltzed into Solitude, challenged and killed Torygg, and if the Empire didn't have such a large presence in the region, most would have just accepted it.
Combined with the fact that all of the Guards are Nords (slightly annoying, diversity-wise but they all are), constantly belittle you as you walk by, make somewhat nasty comments and turn a blind eye to Mercenaries, it's safe to say that they simply don't care about outsiders and to a certain extent, don't care much for doing their jobs unless drastically provoked (or you start openly butchering everybody).
^^bad argument imo. because when you attack someone yourself you get a bounty. so the "nord way solving things through violence" suddenly doesn't apply. it would make more sense if the hired thugs would open a brawl fight.
Guards are there to protect the peace and those within the area from assault from bandits and thugs and cultists etc, in the event of an assault in their presence it only makes sense they would step in - otherwise what use are they? Hired thugs kill so are essentially paid hit-men.
Your arguments make no sense when applied to the Skyrim logic. Guards who walk half of the Skyrim to give you a warning about shouting in a city should stand idle while someone draws weapon and spills blood in front of their eyes in their city on their watch? They are there to withhold peace and order, not running around screaming "Someone do something! Help!" No guard would allow massacre happen on the streets, they don't give s*** about contracts and petty rivalries. Oh and by the way hiring assassins is illegal even in rough nordic Skyrim. Period.
mod isnt working for me. i tried it first with deleting the wildcat mod and didnt work. i also tried combat evolved mod without this one and didnt get a result either. would you help me out please?
Thanks for this mod, my Dragonborns have a tendency to meet these guys rather early and not really having much chance to handle them, this makes it much more manageable.
Hate the hired thugs. They are a strange bunch. They don't even react to you killing/damaging their friends unless they have... slowly walked upto you and explained themselves first!
i like the idea of the mod but i think it would be cooler if you could turn the npc's hired thugs aganst the npc that sent them after you like bribe them that would save me time of haveing to hunt the the dumb ass npc that hired them in the frist place lol
I was quite excited about this mod, as the vanilla system pretty sucks. But for some unknown reasons, it causes CTD when you try to steal an item!?! Guess there's some interference with another mod. Anything known about that?
Do the guards attack the thugs on sight or when the thugs attacks the player? I really like the "We're here to teach you a lesson" scene and I wonder if aggressive guards will interrupt that.
