Hi everyone. Hope you're enjoying the mod. Apologies if I don't seem very active lately. I am dealing with health issues both mental and physical. Turns out I have sleep apnea.
Even when I'm using a Vanilla+ mod list, I consider this mod alongside COTN's keep essential. Every time I see vanilla Winterhold, I'm shocked by how barebones it is. This mod strikes the perfect balance between aesthetics and staying vanilla-friendly and optimized.
So as you can see, the bridge is all messed up with floating objects and missing roads. This is the only part of the city that is glitched for me, the rest seems fine. I have the Patch Collection for Great City of Winterhold and I also have eFPS with its patch for Winterhold too. Not sure what I'm missing but I'd appreciate any help I can get. I need to get to the college for some quests but this error is blocking progress.
I've got a problem. All the NPCs added by this mod are stuck in Riverwood, they clump up near the blacksmith specifically. Tried loading the mod at the very bottom of my load order, but the issue persists. Any idea of what might be causing this?
Okay, I've identified the problem. Some NPCs (and not all of them as I initially suspected) use Alvor as their template, which causes them to spawn in Riverwood and work the smithy. Removing the template from these NPCs fixed the issue. Going to double this on the bugs tab.
Could you give me some instructions or point to a guide on how to do this? I'm completely new to SSEEdit and can't even figure out how to find the NPC records.
Load the plugin in xedit. Find it in left pane and click on it. A tree of record types will appear, find "non-player character", click on it. Click on an NPC record, find "template" row in right pane, select it and press delete. Do the same for every other NPC.
Mod looks amazing but there's a few notable problems with placements I've had. 1. There is no guest bed in The Frozen Hearth. I pay 10septims to the taverkeeper and he doesn't lead me to my room because there is nowhere to go. The room that I am assuming is supposed to be the guest room, because every other bed stays "owned", has everything except the bed.
2. There is an Ice Wolf on the beach near the docks that can be triggered by a rabbit to leave its normal zone and go to the path between the docks and the town. An Ice Wolf managed to kill one of the new NPCs before I ever even got to meet them because of this. Maybe just make the new NPCs stronger so they can deal with this.
3. Just generally too many hoarkers at the docks. They've completely taken over one of the boats. Looks silly.
1. It's caused by a missing patch and/or installing mod on the existing save. Player beds are persistent references and their position is hard-baked into your save from the moment you hit the "new game" button in the main menu. If you're unfamiliar with it, I strongly suggest Janquel's article about Persistent refs mechanics in Skyrim: A Primer on how mods work using JKs Jorrvaskr as an example.
2. There's no Ice Wolf (or any other wolf in the area), most likely it's added by another mod. In a vanilla + TGC Winterhold setup, they appear only in three locations: - in the mountains south of Anga's Mill - in the mountains west of Falkreath - in the Sleepfall Burrow.
3. There are three horkers there. If there's more of them on your side it's the same issue as point 2.
I see. I installed this mod in an already started playthrough. I'll just sleep in the college then; But the only other Winterhold mods I have installed are Obscure's College of Winterhold ver 1.6.1 which I was lead to believe only effected the college itself and Cutting Room Floor ver 3.1.19a which I'm fairly sure just adds cut content like a guard to the college and a radiant quest from Nirya. The only other mod I'm aware of that had any interaction with Winterhold was Lux Via which has the patch installed for this mod.
I didn't see the actual fight because I was down at the docks and she was way up on the path between the upper warehouse enterance and the enterance to Winterhold but what I can say is Magna Frost-Vein was very dead and next to a dead rabbit which I can only assume lead whatever killed her to be there.
As for no Ice Wolves being nearby I don't know what to say. I see wolves, ice wolves included, all over northern skyrim. No mods I have introduce more enemies but I can say I'm on Skyrim Special Edition 1.6.1170.0 and I did change my difficulty to expert and put on survival mode so...? Maybe a random event spawn?
Anyways I just revived her with a console command. Mod is great. Just wanted to give some feedback.
The beds / doors / containers are often modified by various mods unrelated to specific location - NPCs/followers addons, quest mods, AI overhauls, etc.. So it doesn't have to be strictly "Winterhold" mod. You can try using More Informative Console to check it (for future reference, it's impossible to fix it on the existing save). The bed is most probably outside the building - you can use "tcl" command to walk through the walls to find it.
I had the same thing happen as well. As you head out of Winterhold, an ice wolf takes off after a rabbit and goes for a while. I am a streamer and caught it on my stream just a few days ago. It's happening, and I'm pretty sure we don't have the same exact mod list.
I don't like most overhaul-mods because they are hackwork. The fundamental law of RPG design is that characters and populated areas are the main content carriers. You can't add a character if you don't have unique dialogue, quests or other interesting ideas for them. And you also can't add new buildings if they can't offer the player something new to explore and some kind of reward for it. Not necessarily game value, but something interesting that evokes emotions. There are many other tools are used for decoration. In addition, most overhaul-mods cause huge damage to the game balance and the original setting of the game. A plastic world made by greedy children for people who have never played quality games. This mod is a completely different matter. When I first saw the mod in the game, I was a little shocked by the quality. This is a completely different approach. It's done wisely and tastefully. There is something to look at, there are interesting details, this city is connected to the world in which it is located. Nothing superfluous. Gorgeous.
Archinatic, if you will read this, thank you for your work. Also, i saw few small things you can change \ add to make this even better. Let me know if you want to hear it. Those are good.
