DIRGE - The Roleplaying Overhaul - has officially entered open beta. This is the next evolution of my old mod, SkyLITE Combat Overhaul. DIRGE carries over SkyLITE's features and expands upon it further, by tweaking countless facets of the game for a more hardcore old-school RPG feel. For those who fancied the more focused SkyLITE, it is still available in the old files, but it's no longer supported. For those who wish to try our Skyrim with a more old-school RPG feel, give this new mod a try! And don't forget to leave criticisms, suggestions, and bug reports in the comment!
v0.2 - Minor Hotfix. Corrected some texture mismatches in water and some potions. v0.3 - Fix for the sneak-detection (or lack therof) bug, v0.4 - Fixed the washed-out foggy weathers, and adjusted the leveled-actor settings. v0.5 - Minor fixes, added a "Lite" version compatible with survival mode. Please report all bugs. v0.6 - Dragons made 20% easier, Apprentice-difficulty damage reduced to 2x. v0.7 - Increased movement speed, modified damage difficulty multipliers and armor values. v0.8 - Hotfix: Fixed exterior lighting to match more appropriately with ENB (Dolomite-presets).
First great mod! It helped me get a little bit of my requiem fix as I wait for the SSE port. But this mod stands on its own merits. I always liked holistic overhauls cuz theyre much more balanced compared to some frankenrim setup with tons of imblanced and incongruent mods.
I had a question/possible suggestion. From what I read in your description it says you changed the stealth system in this game. I dont know if something in my load order is screwing it up but the enemies seem to have really dialed back on basic intelligence and have become a little near sighted. I shoot bandits at point blank range in sneak mode and they start the usual "what was that (with an arrow in their face)" despite me being less than 10 feet in front of them. Then as they come closer they discover me. But I think they should have seen me come out of cover and shoot them before I even landed the hit. It has saved me a few times when im fighting a large number of bandits but i feel guilty taking advantage at their lack of normal vision. Any advice here?
Thanks for that feedback. I will definitely be looking into that issue for when I release the next update in September. Do you remember what your stealth levels were when this bug started to occur?
Unfortunately I left this mod hanging over the last several years because of being super busy in my personal life, but I have a real itch to sit down one day and rebuild this thing for the PS5's Anniversary Edition. As far as I'm aware, the PS5 still does not have a gameplay overhaul similar in scope to what this mod attempts. I hope I get a chance to get back into mod development.
Is there a place I can see the changes for skills? Every level of Speechcraft's basic perk has a different random benefit, and I'd love to see what they all are.
I LOVE the idea of this mod! But, its so sad that de stealth system for Ps5 is broken... The enemies cant detect the player even if it stay in front of them! If only that could be fixed...
I'm sure you're never coming back to this mod, but I still would like to give my 2 cents. This is almost exactly what I've been looking for. The only negatives I have to say is most dragons seem OP. I completely agree with making them harder but maybe I just have to level up my attack skills better. Most dragon fights I have to put on God Mode or spend what feels like an hour to chip their health away. Then there's the health regen issue. At first, I loved it, well I'm still conflicted honestly. the issue with it I have is that passive and magic regen doesn't seem to work as well. for example, me being a warebeast or vampire and not being able to receive my natural health regen or health regen enchants don't really seem to work. I almost wish I could make mods so I could personally adjust these issues, because I truly love your mod. Thank you for your time and I hope you continue to craft more art in the future!
Been trying out the "Lite" version of this mod and it has made everything very easy on master difficulty and even easier on legendary everything goes down in a couple of hits. it'd be nice for enemies to take a proper beating, but then again i am in low leveled areas, so i am trying to see if it gets harder. right now it feels like glass castles throwing rocks at each other, first hit wins.
Arrows are way too op with this. Everything else makes sense, but arrows... I'm wearing full plate steel with 340 armor and yet I can get 1 shot from 50 feet away by some hillbilly with a bow made out of floorboards. What gives?
What difficulty are you on? I'm in full legendary tempered Orcish and it takes several arrows to take me out, while playing on Adept. I think the mod is developed around Adept. You and enemies deal the same percentage damage.
I have no idea, I'm rebuilding my mod list on a new computer, so I'll maybe get back on this once I'm done. All I know is that I and NPCs could 1 shot basically anything given an arrow and a twig with string attached.
I LOVE the idea of this mod and want to use it in my game for the foreseeable future. I just have alot of other mods that I am sure conflict and want to keep using for a good while.
I have tried and struggled with xEdit. Is there a way you could release a MORE-Lite version compatible with 'Enairim', and potentially other mods?
I would to ask for a basic version without: -Combat changes, unless Wildcat will overwrite them without issue. I like the few extra features of wildcat. I don't know if the stamina changes are part of Wildcat and if not if it should stay or not. I would honestly keep the de-aimbotting of enemies, but I can get mortal enemies for that aswell. (Currently have it from Omega) -Perk Changes. I really like Ordinator, but am willing to try yours as the changes sound good. I was just hoping to get through more skill trees of Ordinator and had more unique build ideas for it. -Race. I really like Imperious and other race mods, partly for their ability to complement any builds, not just the one natural for their race, while at the same time feeling like they belong. -Standing stones, I am not really sure! I like yours and feel some might be important to the balance in DIRGE like 'The Lady'. I do love the ability to use other standing stones mod also. I think either way is great. -Lighting/object/water placement additions plus visuals for compatibility.
-Food was changed, I don't know the details if it would belong in a parted version or not. I don't think it would conflict with anything.
What I love about the idea of your mod:
World - The growing difficulty with a more physical in world representation. Deleveled mods often have level 40 dungeons not far from ones designed from level 10's with no real way to tell besides memorizing some leveled list, which is more frustrating than fun for me. Here we have some loosely defined things to look for in your mod. How far north or towards the map edges am I going? I love it.
Loot - Similar reasons. It makes sense in world and sounds like a fun gameplay loop.
Combat - I like the idea behind your combat, deadly, and tactical. Also like the direction with enemies, more important weaknesses and additions to their AI. (Similiar changes to Wildcat which I use.)
I know its probably too much to ask, but thought I would anyway since I see your working on it again! Can't wait to see what the next update brings!
Hi! i'm new to this mod and i just noticed something, i started a new character, an Argonian, and i noticed that i can't do things like grinding weapons and so on. Is it because it's a non smithing race or do i need like to get more levels to start smithing and upgrading gear with the materials?
I'm having the same issue, and it gets in the way of this other roleplaying mod that lets me become a functioning blacksmith...but I cant "help out around the forge" if I cant "temper an iron dagger".
Absolutely love the mod, using on the PS4 with Survival Mode on. Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I have been unable to start the dark brotherhood quest with dirge on.
I can get to the prompt to tell Aventus that grelod is dead and he will hand over the heirloom as a reward but the courier with the note never arrives and I'm not getting abducted by Astrid when I sleep either.
I do have a bunch of other mods installed but through testing have found that this is the one that blocks it - this is true whether I start Innocence Lost as standard or with the Fast Alrernate Start mod that starts you at Friends Like These within the Falkreath sanctuary - both tested starting with the mod on/of
Like I said, I want to use Dirge if I can - mods that do similar jobs don't seem as pleasing but if I start a character with it on the Dark Brothwehood quest doesn't work.

How can I complete Boethiah's Calling when a followers are essential? Is there a way around this?

Thanks!

I know it's tedious, but perhaps console command your way to the next part of the quest chain?
