FAQ - Please read before posting:

Q: Is this mod compatible with Anniversary Edition?
    A: Yes!

Q: Can I use this mod with a different timescale value?
A: Yes! I played for around 250 hours on a timescale of 7 with no problems.

Q: Can you remove the full screen flashing?
A: This mod does not add full-screen flashing. It only uses the standard sky flashing present in the base game storms.  Mods such as like Lightning During Thunderstorms, or Storm Lightning SE utilize full-screen flashes that happen during any rain storm, so make sure those aren't the culprit.

Q: The volume sliders aren't staying where I put them, what's wrong?
A: This is a known issue with mod-added sliders.  The SSE Engine Fixes mod resolves this.
    https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17230

Q: Is this compatible with XYZ weather mod?
A: This was made for vanilla, but there are lots of patches available on the Nexus for different popular weather mods.

Q: Can you make a patch for XYZ weather mod?
A: Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time these days, and more advanced weather mods require more detailed patches. There are a lot of great patches out there made by the community for most of the popular weather mods.

    Q: Does this effect performance?
A: Nope! :) Skyrim SE runs so great, I couldn’t bear harming FPS. I re-made all visual effects from scratch to have zero impact (or close to it.) See below for details on crazy particle settings that may impact performance.

Q: Why is the rain white/purple blocks?
A: This is due to something going wrong with installation. I don't use mod managers so I can't offer any advice, but people in the comments are always quite helpful.

Q: How is this different from other weather mods?
A: True Storms focuses specifically on storms and does not edit vanilla lighting, or other weather types. Most weather mods are full overhauls to the entire weather and outdoor lighting system. For this reason, patches are needed to make them fully compatible.

Q: Can I change the weather?
A: A List of Weather IDs to use in the console can be found here

Q: The weather seems to affect performance. Is there anything I can do?
If you are experiencing lag with the heavy fog, double check your INI iMaxDesired values. These should not be crazy high, try 750, and work your way up. Very high values like 20000 aren't necessary at all. You might also try the "no heavy fogs" version.

Q: Sometimes the weather transitions abruptly. Can this be fixed?
The weather suddenly turning on/off is a problem as old as the classic game itself (if you Google it people have been looking for solutions since early 2012.) The general consensus is that it's just much more noticeable with weather mods because storms are intense instead of a light quiet sprinkle. Lots of regions have weather overrides and I think the engine just ignores transitions sometimes. I'm still looking at this but transitions are not exposed in any way to be able to experiment with.

Q: How can I change the weather chances?
    1. Open SSEEdit
    2. Expand Region
    3. Select a Region you'd like to modify (e.g. WeatherCoast, WeatherFallForest)
    4. Scroll down to Region Data Entries > RDWT Weather Types
    5. You will see all of the weathers set for that region, and their numerical chances. This is a percentage, e.g. 10 = 10%.
    6. Change these however you want, but try and make sure that they all add up to 100 (e.g. SkyrimClear 90, SkyrimStormSnow 10 = 100)
    7. Do this for each region you'd like to modify
    8. Save the plugin and enjoy!

Here's an image to help further clarify: https://i.imgur.com/k9Euq1k.jpg

    Tips / Info:

You can control the lightning frequency with the console! If you feel like lightning happens too much (or not enough), you can type in the following:

    set TS_LightningBuffer to x

The default is 80. For less strikes, lower the number. Lowering this to even 70 or 65 is very noticeable, so do small increments. If you want MORE strikes, raise it to 90 or 100.

If the heavy fogs are not to your liking, you can install the "No Heavy Fogs" optional file, which will remove those weather types.

    Enjoy!

does this mod mess with the Aurora Borealis at all? I'm trying to narrow down why mine isn't showing up

Has anyone else had the issue of it almost always storming? I can count on one hand how many times it hasn't stormed in my current playthrough. I've only seen snow twice; once in the mountains and a single short snowfall at Whiterun. The non-stop thunder storms are pretty ridiculous at this point. The only other weather mod I have installed and active is Storm Lightning, which is just a remade version of Minty's Lightning so it shouldn't affect weather frequency.

Hi!  The chances for storms haven't been altered too significantly.  For example:

      • Pine Forest (Falkreath/Riverwood/etc.) +2% additional chance of rain
      • Riften (city) in vanilla has no rain, the rain added by this mod has a 12% chance of occurring
      • Markarth collectively has a 20% chance of rain (that should be dialed down actually)
      • In vanilla the Reach has 10% chance of rain, collectively this mod raises it to 12%

So it's a combination of A) having more weathers to roll from in regions that used to not have any rain, B) the engine always rolling the dice every time you move to a new location but most importantly C) heavy storms make it way more obvious that it's raining, whereas in vanilla the rain was so light it can barely be distinguished from overcast.

If you're using mods like DIAL, it forces/holds the weather while you're inside, which means that it won't pass "naturally" so if you go inside to wait out a storm, it's likely going to be there waiting for you when you leave.

I think you're a good candidate to pop open xEdit and fine tune things a bit more for your liking. I put together an article on how to do this for Fallout 4 True Storms but it's the exact same for Skyrim.

I'll see if I can make the time to make a more rare chances plugin in the optional files.  But much lower and I would actually make rain more rare than it is in vanilla.

Interesting. With how often I'm getting storms I should play the lottery or something! I'm not opposed to the rain itself or its' intensity,
more so just the thunder frequency. I'm also subbed to your FO4 True Storms mod and have never had any grievances with that one. It's probably just Skyrim being Skyrim. Don't go out of the way to create more work for yourself on my behalf!

I'll poke around with xEdit and see what I can do.
Were any changes made to the duration of storms?

Yeah and with as many regions there are in Skyrim, the weather is constantly being forced to change and you can get a bad streak of weathers.

Regarding durations, no changes, they're all the same as vanilla.

Hello, probably a dumb question but I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. Is this compatible with Skyrim Legendary Weathers and Skyrim Distant Blur? Is a patch even required or can I just load TS after these and it'll work fine?

    Thank you.

It's semi-compatible. If you load True Storms after Skyrim Legendary Weathers, my mod will just overwrite the storms, but will have the Special Edition look / volumetric lighting / etc. for just those weathers.  Nothing will break though.

I understand that this was made in vanilla Skyrim, so should be compatible with most weather mods. I'm using Mists Of Tamriel, Azurite Weathers III, Storm Lightning for SSE, and a Mists Of Tamriel - Azurite Weathers III patch. What should be my load order if I add this mod?

Weather mods conflict directly with each other, so this will override whatever other mod you're using without a patch.  I'll see about making a patch for Azurite since it's so popular.

Has anyone else had an issue with rain appearing at High Hrothgar and the 10,000 steps instead of snow? Tried editing in SSEdit as well, but there was no Throat of the World location. Great mod though!

No, NAT is a complete overhaul of the entire weather system, so a patch would be needed.  NAT has a ton of awesome weathers.

Does this mod cause too much rain? I am currently using this mod paired with Cathedral weather and It rains too damn much in my game and I won't be exaggerating when I say it rains all the time. I just want to clear things up. Thank you

It's not supposed to but with the addition of different rain types, even at the same chance collectively as the main rain weather in vanilla, it could roll more often.

Is there a Cathedral Weather patch to make these work together?

No patches as of now. But another user pointed it out that Cathedral Weathers is incompatible with True Storms SE. It says so in the Description of Cathedral Weathers. I also found out that there is an option in Cathedral Weathers to turn the overall climate of Skyrim to 'Sombre' which basically makes it rain more often. Which kind of toned the rain down when I turned that off so I am glad that True Storms isn't the one that is causing the rain cause I love the sounds it adds :)

Might be a coincidence but my game keeps freezing in areas with heavy weather like snow storms. I guess my PC gets cold too.
