Q: Is this mod compatible with Anniversary Edition? A: Yes!
Q: Can I use this mod with a different timescale value? A: Yes! I played for around 250 hours on a timescale of 7 with no problems.
Q: Can you remove the full screen flashing? A: This mod does not add full-screen flashing. It only uses the standard sky flashing present in the base game storms. Mods such as like Lightning During Thunderstorms, or Storm Lightning SE utilize full-screen flashes that happen during any rain storm, so make sure those aren't the culprit.
Q: Is this compatible with XYZ weather mod? A: This was made for vanilla, but there are lots of patches available on the Nexus for different popular weather mods.
Q: Can you make a patch for XYZ weather mod? A: Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time these days, and more advanced weather mods require more detailed patches. There are a lot of great patches out there made by the community for most of the popular weather mods.
Q: Does this effect performance? A: Nope! :) Skyrim SE runs so great, I couldn’t bear harming FPS. I re-made all visual effects from scratch to have zero impact (or close to it.) See below for details on crazy particle settings that may impact performance.
Q: Why is the rain white/purple blocks? A: This is due to something going wrong with installation. I don't use mod managers so I can't offer any advice, but people in the comments are always quite helpful.
Q: How is this different from other weather mods? A: True Storms focuses specifically on storms and does not edit vanilla lighting, or other weather types. Most weather mods are full overhauls to the entire weather and outdoor lighting system. For this reason, patches are needed to make them fully compatible.
Q: The weather seems to affect performance. Is there anything I can do? If you are experiencing lag with the heavy fog, double check your INI iMaxDesired values. These should not be crazy high, try 750, and work your way up. Very high values like 20000 aren't necessary at all. You might also try the "no heavy fogs" version.
Q: Sometimes the weather transitions abruptly. Can this be fixed? The weather suddenly turning on/off is a problem as old as the classic game itself (if you Google it people have been looking for solutions since early 2012.) The general consensus is that it's just much more noticeable with weather mods because storms are intense instead of a light quiet sprinkle. Lots of regions have weather overrides and I think the engine just ignores transitions sometimes. I'm still looking at this but transitions are not exposed in any way to be able to experiment with.
Q: How can I change the weather chances? 1. Open SSEEdit 2. Expand Region 3. Select a Region you'd like to modify (e.g. WeatherCoast, WeatherFallForest) 4. Scroll down to Region Data Entries > RDWT Weather Types 5. You will see all of the weathers set for that region, and their numerical chances. This is a percentage, e.g. 10 = 10%. 6. Change these however you want, but try and make sure that they all add up to 100 (e.g. SkyrimClear 90, SkyrimStormSnow 10 = 100) 7. Do this for each region you'd like to modify 8. Save the plugin and enjoy!
You can control the lightning frequency with the console! If you feel like lightning happens too much (or not enough), you can type in the following:
set TS_LightningBuffer to x
The default is 80. For less strikes, lower the number. Lowering this to even 70 or 65 is very noticeable, so do small increments. If you want MORE strikes, raise it to 90 or 100.
If the heavy fogs are not to your liking, you can install the "No Heavy Fogs" optional file, which will remove those weather types.
Known issue, it's an engine thing I can't do anything about. I've noticed that sometimes if you save your game right after adjusting the audio, it will stick but it's random.
For some reason those blank nifs in the no fog effects at all file caused red exclamation marks for me in storm weathers. I replaced them with this and that solved it.
I'm using improved cam mod for more fov, the exclamation texture seems to appear more with the increased fov ( When you switch to first person the exclamation texture also appears for a few seconds ) i´ve installed manually and with mo2 but still got the bug
Endorsed, as this is one of the best immersive mods I'd known - it like a must.
I am glad however you removed downpour's on the last update in the more northern latitudes - they're usually overcast but really never thunderstorms unless in warm weather - thunderheads build with heat. Typically it snows or sleets and sometimes does rain in the north during the winter... but that's very light like a spray and freezing, creating a crust on the snow, until it's packed down to ice.
Amazing mod, thanks. Does it increase the amount of bad weather? I'm having rain all the time since I've installed this mod; I have no other weather mods.
No, early versions did but I dialed everything back to vanilla values. Sometimes one can just get bad weather luck. And with storms being heavier it's a lot more noticeable than vanilla when they happen.

I'll try and collect patches here for convenience.

Q: The volume sliders aren't staying where I put them, what's wrong?
A: This is a known issue with mod-added sliders. The SSE Engine Fixes mod resolves this.

I seem to get the raining sound regardless of whether it's raining or snowing outside.
Glad you enjoying the mod!
