  • LORE : The Economy of Tamriel in the Fourth Era (non-canon)

    "A golden ruin..."

Those were the words uttered by Titus Mede the day after he had seized the throne in the White-Gold Tower.
No wonder he met so little resistance, no wonder it only took him a thousand men to conquer the capital.

Appearances were most definitely deceiving. The building was still standing in all its glory in the middle of the Imperial Capital, but once you went inside, you would discover the ugly truth.
It was not just a matter of petty political struggles and constant backstabbings since the death of Chancelor Ocato. It was much more than that. Much worse than that.

NO ONE in the tower wanted the throne. They all knew, and of course hid the fact from the people, that the economical state of the Empire was an ab...

  • The infamous ten percent commission - How it ACTUALLY works

The way currency exchange works might look a bit confusing at times, so I decided to make a comprehensive article summarizing all trade possibilities brought by Medes In Your Pockets and detailing what they entail.

I hope this article will help you consider the best course of action when exchanging your coins and notes, and enjoy this mod to the fullest.

    1. Exchanging coins

ALL currency exchange concerning coins fall under a general 10% commission.
Practically speaking, it means that "buying" or "selling" your silver and gold coins will never give you the actual "face value" on coins.

    For example :

To "buy" a silver coin, face-valued at 25 copper coins, you will have to pay 28 copper coins. That's 25+2.5...

  • Personnal suggestions for additional merchants and counters

MAJOR UPDATE : A patch covering most of the proposed changes in this article is now available!
You can download it in the "files" section.

As great as Exchange Currency is, the very limited number of merchants able to trade your coins and notes is at times a real problem.
Which is why I'm making a list of merchants I feel should be added in the main city of each hold, to help you with your daily monetary problems.

If you have other merchants added by mods and who could fit better for this role, more power to you! This is just a list of recommendations to make the work easier, nothing more

Yeah, okay... but how do I do that?

True, let's not be too hasty.
Before anything, I highly recommend you install the optionnal patc...

  • How to thrive in the New Economy - Chapter 4 (final)

Chapter 4 : FREE (at last)

This 10% commission is getting on your nerves. Now that you exchange bigger sums, you can feel it drag you down with every transaction.
All the way back in chapter one, I promised you I would talk about a way to become entirely exempt. I shall now explain how.

First and foremost, rejoice friend, for we are at war And war is always good for business.
The Imperial Legion is currently entirely focused on crushing the Stormcloack rebellion in Skyrim. As an incentive for enrolment, Emperor Titus Mede the Second has recently passed a bill stating that every new recruit would be exempt of any commission on currency exchange during the entirety of their service, and for the rest of their life should they behave heroically. Recent repor...

  • How to thrive in the New Economy - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 : Knowing the rules (and learning to play by them)

I previously told you about the Imperial Regulations on the Status of Silver and Gold (which will from now on be referred to as IRSSG). A decree that everyone in Tamriel has at least heard about since Titus Mede I reinstored order in our economy. But do you ACTUALLY KNOW what these regulations are?

The two most important rules about them are as follow :
1- Merchants affiliated with the Merchants Guild of Tamriel* are the only ones allowed to deal in currency exchange, in the limit of silver currency.
2- Dealings in gold are exclusive to the Imperial Bank, the East Empire Trading Company and exclusive partners.

It's no wonder the Gold Septim has become such a rare sight nowadays. Onl...

  • How to thrive in the New Economy - Chapter 1

Chapter 1 : The copper mede (or what you thought you already knew)

The copper mede can be as much a friend as a terrible weight on your shoulders, depending on the circumstances.

Everyone loves the noise of a handful of healthy coins tingling in a purse or in a pocket. After all, the more you have, the better off you are, right?
What if I told you that you should actually aim at having only what you need, and secure the rest in other forms?

Let's face it : having a heavy purse is good. But having a purse TOO HEAVY can become a real inconvenience.

In-game : with their weight set at 0,01, all those coins count for more than 81 carrying points

This is when the exchange system established by the Tamriel Merchant Gu...

  • How to thrive in the New Economy - Foreword

(Note : Most of these mechanics are already known to those who have previously played with Exchange Currency. The idea of these articles is to detail further some new things introduced by my patch. I hope you'll enjoy reading them as much as I writing them.)

How to thrive in the New Economy
    ----
An essay by sir Invock, trader and self-made man, knighted in 4E186 for services rendered

    Foreword

Since the introduction of the copper coin by emperor Titus Mede the First, things have changed in Tamriel.
Gone are the days of yore when everything could be settled with a couple septims in the right pocket... All right, this is not entirely true, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

    They might not have t...

  • How to thrive in the New Economy - Chapter 3

Chapter 3 : Big clients, big money (and big advantages)

Now that you've made your way up in the world, you might be thinking about aiming higher. Bigger sums, bigger deals, bigger contracts.
And you would be ENTIRELY RIGHT!

The first thing to do will be to find an Imperial Bank, an East Empire Trading Company office, or an affiliated partner. If you have been paying attention to the rules of the IRSSG in the previous chapter, you have already understood what we are going to talk about : GOLD.

Now that I have your attention...

When you come to exchange currency in this kind of place, it is the sign that you are now an important personnality. Only the truly wealthy will be bold enough to engage in trading gold septims or even gold ...
