Since Skyrim VR now has a ton of gameplay mods all fighting for space on your controller buttons I've made two mappings (Layout1 | Layout2) including most of the big mods that I personally use. You can recreate this mapping yourself by using this mod as a basis and configuring the other mods mentioned as the image suggests. This is just one way to do it ofc and it won't fit everyone but hopefully it can help some people.
The main goals of this mapping is to make things happen in the same hand you're using to press the button and (just as importantly) avoid accidental activations. No matter how much you swing your hands around when attacking/casting this mapping should ensure you never do anything by accident (like holster a weapon, perform a gesture, throw your weapon, etc.). Note that to completely avoid accidental holstering, youll need to pick your VRIK holster positions with care or use MageVR holsters instead since those can be on A/B/X/Y (only used for other stuff if you want to) instead of the more risky grip/trigger buttons (used for power attacks, casting and throwing, all of which can pass near a holster).
If you use MageVR holsters, i recommend adding my improved script here (just load this after MageVR). This makes your weapons stay in the holster even if you somehow unequip it after you pull it out (e.g. by equipping a spell in that hand). So you can pull your weapon, replace it with a spell and then pull the same weapon again from the same holster. Otherwise if you ever do this kind of action, you would then need to use menus to get the weapon back. The edit also includes the possibility to equip a scroll via your backpack and then press the scroll button while holding your hand over your wrist to assign that scroll to that wrist. Press the scroll button later on over that same wrist to cast that scroll. This avoids having to use the MCM to assign scrolls.
Hi there, I'm trying to configure Dynamic Activation Key in VR and I'm a bit lost between the way keyboard shortcut or controller pad assignment react to me pressing button on my oculus touch. Should I simply map "shift" to a hotkey? Would you be so kind as to walk me through a keyboard key mapping?
Gettin something weird with horseback (STEEDS OF ULTIMA) , it thinks my modifier key is always being held down so I keep doing CHoVR gestures whenever I press the trigger buttons, so no matter what, trigger buttons count as a shout/power. Had to switch to the shout button on left controller only version so that I can actually do power attacks.
I don't understand this config, I try to shout using the quest 2 by holding the modifier and then pressing the joystick button on the left controller but it quicksaves instead of shouting? I can't shout or use powers and it's annoying. I'm using VRIK and Spellwheel VR
This is something thats been driving me crazy, but I cant figure it out. Im left handed, so I want to use left handed hold, but leftie mode inverts controls which is weird bc every controller ive ever used has never had that issue. I cant figure out how to swap controls for movement back, but keep weapon holds on the leftie control scheme.
Figured it out using oculus controller remap tool. I was just blind.
How would you, lets say, change the "Activate" event trigger to use the "A" button on your right controller? I'm trying to understand the code but whenever i switch the 7th column to 0x07,0x21 i lose the "Activate" functionality entirely... What am i doing wrong?
You're gonna need to unbind it from its current function (hotkey X) as well. If you have it bound to both the hotkey and activate Skyrim will probably just pick whichever came last in the list or something and ignore the other one. So yeah, go to the hotkey row, find the one bound to A and change that to 0xff
This mod makes Skyrim VR worth playing for me, the controls out of the box are so bad that I had such a hard time getting into it. Thank you so much for allowing me to experience and enjoy this game. You are a hero!
I'm kinda new to Skyrim VR and was looking for a control remapping, and this looks good... but... where are the options for Jumping / Sneaking? I hope I'm not required to actually jump nor crouch in meatspace... since I tend to do most of my VR playing seated.
Am I able to change any of the combined functions? I keep accidentally activating powers because I tend to clench both the grip and trigger when punching bare handed or trying to hit things with a held object using the PLANCK mod...
For instance... how would I change power activation to Y+B? Is that an impossible combo? I tried using the remapping tool (another mod) but I couldn't find options for combinations of keys (or "chords" as Steam VR calls them)... and I can't figure out any way to map a function to buttons on separate controllers in the text file either...
You can change them via the textfile if you can work out the format. Y+B is not possible though afaik. You cant put combos using both controllers. But if power activation is a problem for you, you could unbind it entirely (set it to 0xff in the file) and use VRIK gestures to activate powers/shouts instead. Wouldnt recommend it if you're using Spellsiphon though... there's a lot of shouting going on there and gesturing for it can get annoying and less immersive.
I think I've got something that works. I set power activation to Right Trigger + Stick-Click. I won't be able to use it easily while spells are equipped, but it isn't a problem the rest of the time as it is a combination I can't press by accident. I also set all the hotkeys to combinations. Instead of just A, B, X, Y, those ones now require Trigger+A, Trigger+B etc. It seems to be working. I also set activation to A instead of grip as I was tired of accidentally opening bodies or moving items to my inventory while trying to pick things up.
[Edit]: Turns out I really can't use OVR Advanced Settings for climbing afterall. I can scout ahead with it, but it doesn't move my character at all... Damnit. I really want a climbing mod.
Easy endorsement as playing in VR desperately needs a config like this. While its a shame the onscreen inputs cant be changed, (thank god for VR diary) I was wondering if there was anything that could be done about the menus? Considering mods like your spell siphon as well as some of the others you listed, I spend so little time in the menus that when I do have to use them, I find myself constantly hitting the wrong button. Is this unavoidable? What solution would you recommend?
Thanks for the endorsement and yeah, it's a shame you cant easily change the prompts (or rather, that the prompts dont automatically match the current layout). There are no mods available that change the in-menu ones so all i can suggest is to stick with it until it becomes intuitive. The controls are consistent throughout, tab switching is always on left and right trigger, accept and cancel/back are always on A and B, favourite assignment is always on stick click. The only other actions available are on X/Y and what those do is shown in menus where they have a role. I've tried to not touch those X/Y bindings so they should match what the UI says. If you notice places where that's not true, feel free to list them and post a report here and i can look into it.
I like this mapping, but shout conflict with MageVR, I read that you have deactivated the glyphs and use the handpose, but I've been testing the handposes for an hour and they go pretty bad, at least for me, I only manage to do the 4 basic handposes and when I try combining them sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (mostly they don't work for me, I'll be doing something wrong). How could I change the button for the shouts? I would use Oculus Controller Remapping Tool for Skyrim VR, but since shouts work by pressing two buttons instead of just one, I don't know how to do it. Thanks for all.
My suggestion is that you change the button for MageVR instead. You can go to its ini file and switch the glyph drawing / handpose buttons to use one of A/B/X/Y instead. That may solve your problem here. Switching the shout binding for this mod is doable too but the config file is much harder to read (blame bethesda). If you want to do that, just open the single file this mod adds in a text editor and see if you can figure out the format.
