Hi Andrealphus, ty for some nice mods...but i want to ask you, i am already a thane of whiterun in my game, can i still use Harder Thaneships in my game and not start a new one? do i need a bashed patch?
Regarding Harder Thaneships - Is there a requirement for the dialogue option to show up for Jarl Balgruuf? I'm trying to debug by making this the only mod in my load order, but still getting nothing.
Load order:
Skyrim.esm
Update.esm
Dawnguard.esm
HearthFires.esm
Dragonborn.esm
_ResourcePack.esl
Harder Thaneships.esp
Steps I take while debugging:
coc whiterunDragonsreach - go to dragonsreach
setstage MQ104 10 - start dragon rising
proceed through quest, kill dragon, absorb soul
coc whiterunDragonsreach - go to dragonsreach
Speak to the Jarl. As expected, I do not get auto thaned, and get a 500 gold reward instead, but no dialogue option to offer services show up.
Do I need to be a certain level? I tried player.setlevel 50 but that didn't bring the dialogue option up. Do I need to wait a certain amount of time?
Appreciate all your work Andrealphus. I'm doing this in an effort to make a patch for AYOP Thane Overhaul. I really think that disabling being auto thaned combined with AYOP's MCM menu would really make both mods shine. I know you present disabling auto thane as a difficulty solution, but I also think its an amazing roleplaying solution, one that has bothered me since I started playing this game back in 2011. You shouldn't be forced to become the thane of whiterun just to get access to shouts.
I'm not sure if using these console commands will enable all necessary background quests. To properly test it, you should go through the main quest without console commands. It might be that the dialogue to offer services requires some quest to be started in the background, which you might have skipped by using your method. I do know that you need to have a relationshiprank of at least 1 with Balgruuf though. So first try these console commands:prid 1A677 setrelationshiprank player 1 The first one grabs Balgruufs refID, the second one sets his relationshiprank with the player to 1. If this doesn't work, try make going through the main quest normally, by starting a new game and not using console commands.
A couple of these things might be immersion breaking.
Balgruuf basically makes you Thane because you brought words of the dragons, helped out his court wizard, and then killed a dragon. At that point, giving Ysolda a mammoth tusk or helping Lars deal with Braith just seems inconsequential.
As for the Forgemaster's Fingers, that place has been sealed off since time immemorial, legit millennia. How would the Orcs even know to point you in its direction for a rather basic relic? Unless you wanna mix up the vocals to sound like they're punking you.

In other holds, you don't get thaned either for just doing a Dragon bounty and/or other tasks for the Jarl. You'll still need to gain the favor of the people in the hold. I don't see why Whiterun would be an exception. If you find the ways of pleasing the people in the hold to be strange/inconsequential, I can agree. But to fix that, an entire overhaul to the disposition system is needed, which I hopefully can release at some point.

When you start the quest, the Orc at the gate will say:
"Hmm... We've heard whispers of an enchanted pair of gauntlets, hidden and protected by dangerous men, beasts or worse."
Personally, I think this is ambiguous enough to justify their location. If you're refering to the quest markers pointing you to their exact location, that's another can of worms, and out of scope of this mod.
All of the files are optional btw, so if you don't like any you can skip them and still pick the ones you do like.
It looks like "MCL_Race_WoodElfRace_MalbornContainer" is marked Playable, so it shows up in character creation. I don't think this was intended but since I don't know for sure I'm bringing it up here.

Great idea, limiting the carry weight!
