Consult the documentation. Read the FAQ (if there is one) and compatibility notes in the mod description, as well as the readme (Docs tab) and the bug list (for LE mods, the bug list is on the corresponding SSE page to reduce duplication).
Install the correct version. Make sure you download the LE version (/skyrim/) if you are using LE, and the SSE version (/skyrimspecialedition/) if you are using SSE. If the other version is available, the mod page contains a link to it. Not all mods are available for both versions.
Check for conflicts. Check if there is another mod loaded after this mod that may override it and revert its changes. Some mods come with loose files that end up in your data folder, override other mods regardless of what order they are in, and may stick around after you uninstall them.
Make sure you have the latest version. Please do not report bugs that are already fixed.
Empirically, the above is more likely than not to solve your issue. Keep in mind that this mod is used by thousands of players without major issues, so if "the mod doesn't work" or "the mod is completely broken", the issue would likely be on your end and not actually a bug with the mod.
Validated bug reports and feedback are welcome on the above subreddit.
Smilodon isn't "just" Wildcat with injuries removed. It's actually made from scratch, along the same lines as Wildcat but not exactly the same. Things like combat styles and stamina costs are slightly different, burst stagger is new, attacks of opportunity are rebalanced, etc.
If it had been released before SSE came out, Smilodon would have been Wildcat 6.00. However, Wildcat needs to retain parity with the classic Skyrim version as any good port ought to; abilities on the player cannot be modified without contributing to bloat in existing saves by orphaning the magic effects (and remember bethesda.net has forced updates); and some of the controversial features are so widely known (like the x4/x4 Legendary difficulty) that replacing them would cause mass confusion.
Also, it turned out that Wildcat's feature set (minus dynamic combat) could technically work on PS4 but making the necessary changes to remove scripts that aren't part of dynamic combat would again break saves.
I have been using this mod for a few days now and I am happy with it, everything seems to work great.
i'm just having one small bug however, when walking up to an enemy before combat starts, when they threaten you or tell you to leave, the enemy keeps sheathing and drawing their weapon repeatedly.
has anyone else experienced this? i'm not saying this mod is the culprit but it is my only combat modifier mod, so it seems a good place to start.
For me this was caused by the mod 'Mounted Combat For Everyone", uninstalled it and bug was instantly resolved, AI almost never rode horses in combat anyways. Hope this helps.
If I am using Ultimate Combat and SRCEO Skyrim Revamped; does it make more sense to use this rather then Wildcat? As I preserve the stagger and timed block mechanisms of UC... I guess it comes down to weather or not I want injuries and mcm control of difficulty settings?
With stagger and injuries off in wildcat wouldn't the script load be the same?
Something went wrong.Smilodon is not working properly anymore.Fully drawing a bow is not costing stamina.Holding a drawn bow aint costing stamina either.Attacking normally is still costing stamina tho..Whats wrong?
Is there a way for me to change damage modifiers myself? I like doing more damage and taking more damage, but I think I'm doing way too much with the realistic version. Without it on legendary things are back to "bullet sponges".
I must be doing something wrong. I'm using a warrior class wielding a good sword and shield, currently at level twelve, and so far the combat has not been unforgiving, it looks more like broken. I'm using a pretty good set of armor and weapons for this level, yet I'm getting killed by enemies in three hits, WHILE BLOCKING, and thats just normal grunt enemies (I was mostly fighting restless drauger in some tomb). I walked outside to climb the throat of the world, and got killed while trying to take down a bear. Again, three hits, and every enemy I have fought so far has had waaaaay more health than me, so much that it still takes 8 or 9 good hits to take down the weaker ones.
I'm not using any mods that affect enemies or level/stat balances, besides this one. Any advice?
Did you download the regular version or the realistic damage version? In the regular version your damage is unchanged vile the enemy deals more. If you want you and the enemy to use the same damage multipliers then use the realistic damage version.
Hi guys, something strange happened to me... when im using Smilodon if I use this function Game.GetPlayer().GetSpellCount() he return me less spell that I have, but is turn it off, works properly. Anyones know why?
Hi ther EnaiSiaion, just pondering whether to switch to Smilodon (from Wildcat).
I see a lot of people combining combat mods - I was wondering - do you have favourite/go to combination for Smilodon? Is there another combat mod you think really complements Smilodon?
I would rather find one or two combat changing mods that work really well together than have 6-8 mods that all attempt to change the combat through various means - which would also be very time consuming to get right and likely not work so well. Figured you're the one to ask, since I've played nearly exclusively with Wildcat :)
One thing I have noticed is if you set your in-game FPS to 144 and change the Havok accordingly the stamina drain will not work. Such as when pulling an arrow to max power it is delayed as well as the loss of stamina doing so. Also, the consistent drain does not take effect. The same happens for swimming.
EDIT: I happened to fix this by going into the power and setting all the costs to default or whatever is desired and it is working again!
Hi i rly love ur mod a must have for me. I would like to get ur insight in the option "damage reduction against massive targets" i deal less damage vs massive but what about my follower and the rest of the npcs? Because i have the feeling my follower is pretty much soloing all the massives for me, iam doin this little hits and the follower attacks it for 3 or 4 times my hit, kinda ruins the fight sadly. This is just one idea but what about all hits from anything or anyone to be included in the damg reduction vs massives not just the player. Would luv to get ur feedback on this, once again great mod luv it!
Good suggestion! There is nothing in the game that modifies damage between NPCs, other than a perk added to said NPC (so don't use any follower mods or enemy overhauls).
Hello once again, iam not playing with any mods that change the damg received or taken. Your mod is the only one i need for that propose, i also dont use any follower / dragon mods iam trying to play the game with very few mods. My follower and i deal pretty much the same damg and theres a huge difference vs massives with that option on, ill disable it for now or ill need to carry on without a follower. Thanks for the fast reply on this, take care.
Ah, ok. This is what's causing my follower issues. I'll just disable the massive damage reduction for now. Maybe in the future, this could be implemented as a health bar increase on massives, instead of a damage reduction.
Thanks for the clarification, and the excellent mods.

NPCs do way too much damage and kill the dragons for me. Not to mention followers soloing Giants.
