About this mod

Want more realistic armor behavior? This is my personal 'realistic' armor behavior preset for a great mod by Anubis22 - True Armor. The focus is on realism but also on balance, so protection vs speed/stamina, and importantly also protection vs price (which reflects rarity).

UPDATE (Nov-2021):
-
New, even more polished and fine-tuned preset
- Includes new TA unfitted armor mechanic settings (TA 2.4.7. required),
- Improvements across all settings
- fine tuned poison and stagger resistances
- corrected some speed penalties (max is -10%, before used -11/-12%, shifted to stamina regen penalties)
- Scaled armor slightly slower but stronger (solid price, also includes Guard armor & Dawnguard, so it makes sense)
        - Generally slightly bigger diff between heavy and light armors (scaled tries to be in-between)
        - Overall re-evaluated all settings to get a satisfying and coherent values which make sense from all angles: weight, coverage and armor price!

When I began playing Skyrim  I immediately started looking for a mod to make armors behave ...well, more realistically. After playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance, that became even more important. So I found True Armor (TA) by Anubis22. And it was what I wanted. Ability to have different armors behave differently in all aspects, but also being able to tune (almost) EVERYTHING. Skyrim is a game with millions of mods and players, so mod adjust-ability is hugely important.

Over time the author added three presets, Fantasy, Balanced and Realistic. Still, even the realistic preset wasn't exactly what I was looking for. There is already another realistic TA present on Nexus, but that one wasn't what I was after either. So I decided to spend some time and make a preset to complement my load order, which is focused on realism. I've spent quite some time on studying armors, medieval one but also Skyrim lore (to some degree at least).

Main differences from True Armor 'realistic preset':
WeaponSpeed, MoveSpeed and  StaminaRegen ranges are wider than in the mentioned presets. Magic and stagger resistances are overall closer to the TA_Realistic (TAR) preset, but different across armors. Body coverage by armor types was also changed a bit. Higher level Light armors are overall a bit weaker, especially Elven armor, while Scale armor is a bit tougher. There are many changes, all documented in a spreadsheet, which I will upload if there is interest. For now, I will just included some of the graphs which I used when I was adjusting the all the armors. Price vs protection (adjusted for speed & stamina regen) was carefully balanced. Rare/expensive should generally always be better.

Main settings description:
  • Heal Rate set to -98%! Change this if your play style is different.
  • Stamina regen set to +40% (to be used with mods that use stamina, else set to desired val in MCM)
  • Weapon speed +15%
  • Health limiter: Coupled with Enemy Releveler , most humanoids range  from ~100 to 230 health.
  • Remaining Vanilla armor: 20%
  • Min/max tempering efficiency: 85% to 110% (85% is then the baseline untempered armor)
  • Unfitted armor penalties (new in 3.0, requires TA 2.4.7.):
- fittingThreshold (16% aka "Fine")
- Unfitted movement speed penalty = -6% (per armor piece)
- Unfitted weapon speed penalty -5.4%
- Unfitted armor penalty (96% so -4%)

REQUIREMENTS:
True Armor  (V2.4.7. needed for the new preset 3.0)
FISS(ES)

RECOMMENDED:
- Wildcat
- Ultimate Combat
- Mortal Enemies
- Simply Balanced Same author as True Armor (to bring up damage to more logical levels, I use 300-400%)
- Equipment Durability System (or similar,  if your armor degraded below unfitted armor threshold, it will become unfitted)
- Honed Metal (now more important due to unfitted armor mechanic!)
- Wounds (longer term wounds!)
- Dynamic Stamina and Dynamic Combat (stamina use and regen, blocking, etc., both need a bit of fine tuning depending on load order, Dynamic Combat armor module disabled of course not to interfere w)
- Enemy Releveler (a configurable zEdit patcher that lets you edit the levels of NPCs. According to some reviews, you can get "... requiem-like consistency".)
  Skyrim Souls - unpaused menus
- TRE (True Renaissance Economy): lighter weapons, cheaper food, expensive clothes, heavier ingots, books, hides, etc..
- Poverty SE
