im so sorry to bother you about this but none of the guides i watched go in depth on this. You mention fred the viking's mods having deleted records, I cant sseedit quickclean on the three mods, is that sufficient? How do i know if I did it correctly? I clicked around and despite stuff being red i couldnt notice anything odd about the values in the colums themselves.
Oh yes, that famous port warehouse in Whiterun! Sarcasm, of course. Nicely, but as always, modifications are made by people without education, specifically without understanding the history of places and events.
I recommend players trying out my patches to clean out all occlusion planes from this mod, as instructed on my mod page (I'm not criticising the effort put into this mod, it is just unfortunately something that needs to be done for a smooth gaming experience).
Reading that many people are having issues with CTDs when using this mod (and also having experienced a few myself), I have a suspicion what could be the cause of them. This mod places an excessive number of occlusion planes in Whiterun (typically two-three of them overlapping each other in every building). It is a known fact that stacking of occlusion planes can cause CTDs, and using so many of them is unlikely to have any positive performance impact. I also got a CTD upon accessing the map - just as others - which is something I have also experienced at other places when the frame rate is low. I don't know if that is the cause here, but if it is, moving to another location might help.
Not to be the bearer of bad news. Using this mod taxes the living hell out of your system. If your vram isn't sufficient enough to load all the new assets, + NPCs etc. the game will CTD.
edit: nvm! I had originally left this comment before testing the mod myself. There are indeed a litany of CTD issues. Apologies!
@somohexual, I think I've determined what causes the ctd upon entering Whiterun.
The first is that the "JK-DoS-Whiterun Expansion Patch - Fixes.esp" references the "pianocheese" items mentioned by another user, but these are in turn referencing something that doesn't exist that is given a formid of "FE0003AD". Originally, they were referring to a Food Display marker from JK's, but I don't know what they're referencing in your patch. Replacing all records that has the faulty FE0003AD with the original one from JK's or simply deleting that entry fixes this issue.
The second, if you're like me who doesn't know how to use Wrye Bash, and simply renamed the Master ESPs of FredtheViking's patches from "Blues Skyrim" to Dawn of Skyrim" using xEdit, you will find that this will still cause a CTD upon entering Whiterun. This is because there are now more than a hundred or so records that FtV's patches references. The unfortunate solution I had to this was to go inside both "JK-DoS-Whiterun Expansion Patch.esp" and "Whiterun Expansion Dawn of Skyrim Patch.esp" and manually cross-reference each item they were once overwriting from the original Blues Skyrim. (luckily, the last 3 digits of their formid is a good indicator of what they once where).
Now I can enter Whiterun in all its glory. I can actually use this with Whiterun Synthesis (since I use the Whiterun Expansion Redone as well) and it all works nicely. The only tradeoff is that I can't open the map while inside Whiterun or I'll immediately CTD, but that's a tradeoff I'd rather have than no glorious Whiterun at all.
Can provide my edits if you want. The only thing is that I've turned the patches into ESPFE, but . . . oh well. Ty for patches.
do you get any CTD in the new capital whiterun areas or by dragonsreach or behind the forge building near the gate with your fixes? i've been getting those and i am basically walking on eggshells any time i am in whiterun.
i am also not very familiar with xedit, but i was trying to run dyndolod 3 and it kept complaining about certain references including the "piano cheese", so i decided to just delete the things dyndolod was complaining about and it worked. i still get CTD in the same places though, and i'm sure me mutilating the plugin in xedit is not the ideal solution for dyndolod either.
@stephen No, I don't get ctd. I only used to game freeze/ctd when accessing map in whiterun.
I say used to, because I've finally narrowed down why I'm having the Whiterun Map ctd bug. It's caused by this mods' "JK-DoS-Whiterun Expansion Patch - Fixes.esp"
I don't know why it does that though. I tested by only having SurWR and the alternate start active, and then slowly reactivating the other mods, like 5 at a time. Consistently, that particular patch causes the ctd. It doesn't cause CTD anywhere on Whiterun interior, just upon opening map.
You shouldn't really be experiencing ctd in whiterun. Ctds are usually caused by missing references (a mod is looking for a particular object, but said object is either Deleted or doesn't exist at all, which then triggers a crash). Maybe a load order issue?
My load order is copying exactly what is on this mods description page. I can easily reproduce it so i could show you a crash log if you are interested. you may also be interested to know i get the map ctd too however i didnt always. it started happening some time through my playthrough although starting a new game does not remove the issue. what did remove the problem although only temporarily was remove a high poly npc mod for soiltude expansion. i have no idea why and the map ctd came back soon after anyways without re installing the mod.

Well, I don't have a lot of the mods on that list, but I followed it with the ones I have, and I unfortunately still got CTD in the same spots. thanks for trying to help but i think for now i will just remove this patch

Those "people without education" are making things you can add to your game for free that you're under no obligation to use.
If you don't like it, ignore it. Don't be a dick.

Edit: sadly didn´t last long...getting CTD´s around Whiterun.
