Mist swirled around Falion’s feet as he stepped carefully through the marshes. A cool wind ruffled his hair; whether the faint howling around him was the fog’s doing or something greater, he thought, was hard to say. The creature in his arms, growing heavier by the minute, rustled uneasily. The enchanter looked down at it. The small, caramel-colored dog the adventurer had brought to his doorstep shivered from the cold, shifting around as if trying, half-heartedly, to jump from his grasp to the ground.
