Tracking this. I've always thought it was silly that a shack was useless as shelter from the rain. Would this also apply to something like Riverside Shack south of Windhelm?
It applies to anything that uses the ShackKit meshes so it should include that one too (& mods that use vanilla resources). Unless the shack is -supposed- to have a broken roof, in that case it stays vanilla.
It would be easy to make a version where all roof meshes are unbroken, however I am not sure if they are also used for some instance where the holes are required.
I would love it if you would make a version where all roof panels are fixed even if they look leaky, or where leaky roof panels are replaced by good ones. It is really bothersome to me that when I build a shack using Live Anywhere half the roof panels leak and my character is really better off in a tent. The same goes for occupying vanilla shacks in Skyrim as it varies but about half of all roof panels seem to be the leaky ones. It would be great if they were all good!
I use that mod too. What I did was make a copy of the good parts while looking in ck and save as the broken parts mesh file name. This made the shacks have restored roofs. The riverside shack near kynesgrove/windhelm is the only shack that I have seen with one part broken that does not have a duplicate good part but, that shack is under a ledge and has a firepit. What I did for that was use the old moveobjects mod and floated a planks into that hole.
Love this! Using it in conjunction with Interact - build - decorate. Now I can build a house without being afraid my furniture gets ruined every time it rains. Looks good to!
Have you tested this on the roofs of Interact - Build - Decorate shacks? I tried it on Live Anywhere shacks and it fixed one side of the roof, or for the larger shacks, 2 of four roof panels. My first guess was that the other side of the roof of Live Anywhere shacks uses a custom (very leaky) texture, but that is not true, it is just a vanilla leaky texture that is not fixed by this mod that is used for half the roof panels found on the shack right by Half Moon Mill. This not fixed texture is also used by Live Anywhere shacks for half the roof panels. Thankfully the Witchmist shack roof is completely fixed by this mod's, version 3. I would love to see that other leaky vanilla roof panel fixed by this mod. If that were done, the Live Anywhere shacks would all have good roofs, as would most of the shacks in Skyrim. I'd rather imagine a bad roof on an old shack then having to imagine a good one on a new shack that I was trying to live in. If one of my characters did decide to start living in an old shack, the first thing on his agenda would be to fix the roof, so having it start out fixed is not a problem.
Thank you so much for this, I recently downloaded the lovely Hidden Pines Cabin and was dismayed to realize that I was being rained on inside the house. It is a pity to give up the improved meshes from SMIM, but staying dry is more important
I really like this idea but I think it would be neat for you to expand on. Think about it this way, you obviously have differing layers of social strata and some folks live in mansions and some people and destined and doomed to live in s**t holes. I would make a FOMOD Installer and have some of the shacks have options for both, such as maybe the choice of an open air Hunter's Shack right below the volcanic tundra in the area of Eastmarch where you nearly step on the sleeping bear - or one with a closed door, or curtain using existing Skyrim assets.
So you would have the choice to keep their shacks/homes dilapidated or in good shape. There are some places that should look good and some should reflect how evil or good the person is. Such as finding Anise' true nature when you visit her hovels "basement". Whereas the Alchemist's Shack near Ivarstead should be a clean nice and tidy little home.
it always bothered that my dear old friend Angi was living in a shack with a broken roof. i really wish u'll add fake windows no need for animation or something fancy just fake wooden windows to give the impression that people actually can live there ,lets not forget after all that Skyrim is a cold and harsh place and the wild life is dangerous too ,so windows make sense. thanks ,screens asap
If you really want to repair the shacks, put the framing on the inside and the boards on the outside. Framing = logs. They would trap all the water and would do nasty things to the building. As a Carpenter in RL there is absolutely no realism in the roof structure of the shacks. If you wanted to keep the water out in RL, you would have to turn the boards 90 degrees to allow most of the water to run down and off with the logs on the inside. What you've done is nice, but if you want a believable fix, the entire roof needs to be changed.
I'll keep it in mind if I ever decide to do some CK carpenting. ;) By the way do you mean the first two versions of the mod (with horizontal boards) or the vanilla structure as well?
I'm not sure if they're possibly meaning porting it or some such as they had the exact same comment word for word on a follower mod I just glanced at that was released.

Definitely endorsing this.

So possibly asking to port it? *shrug*
