If you check Update.esm for errors in xedit, do you see a ton of other lstring errors? If so you probably still have the old skyrim - patch.bsa in your data folder that doesn't seem to be included in the AE version. Removed it from my data folder and all the lstring errors went away.
I'll try this and see if it fixes the issue, i was going to create a patch for the Update.esm file that does the same thing for all the string issues but if that bsa is the culprit i think i actually don't need to do all that :P I'll see and update the mod :) thanks
I finally found the fix for this, just go to this mod: Multiple Languages Strings Unified Central SSE-AE, download the main file in your language of choice, then download the misc file in the same language for the CC CONTENT STRINGS!! Downgrade patcher's Best of Both Worlds only downgrades to basic 1.5.97, which does not include any of the CC Content strings. That's why this page exists.
However, deleting the Skyrim - Patch bsa will also get rid of the script that allows cc content to START after CHARGEN!! So all you need are the strings from the mod above, and it will not only solve this mod's mentioned bug, but will clear almost every single error from the Update.esm by having access to the correct strings it needs. :)
If you have modified your Skyrim - Patch.bsa and would like it back, simply run the "1.6.1130 to 1.5.97 Best of Both Worlds" downgrade patch on the Skyrim.exe that exists where your mods are (like a Stock Game folder if you use one) and it will give you a brand new, unmodified copy.
Will this work mid-playthorugh? I have been playing a game on 1.5.97 (downgraded with best of both worlds downgrade patcher). So I can just add the Strings mods with MO2 and The Cause quest will work now?
For some reason I don't even have the update.bsa file on my computer. Actually, I don't have Dawnguard.bsa, hearthfires.bsa or dragonborn.bsa either. Yet my game seems to bring up all associated textures, models, audio, etc. So where could those bsa files possibly be??? I am so utterly confused.
Oh, by the nine... You are a genius. You saved my Rielle. And you gave my character the right to live in a very cool Ireyd house. Thank you, thank you so much. I'll tell other Japanese users.
Interesting find! For anyone worried about deleting the patch BSA, I found that extracting that BSA, deleting the strings folder, and adding the extracted BSA as a mod (after deleting the original patch BSA) also fixes errors in the update.esm.
