NEWS 7/23/23
It's been far too long since the last release. Thank you real life and work etc etc yadda yadda yadda. I suspect things will just be slow going from here on out. meh.. typical mod author almost has a life stuff. You've heard it all 1000 times before I'm sure. Anyhow..
Fixed a couple issues with the quest and added a modest dialogue update I hope y'all will enjoy. Though while uploading the update I noticed a potential issue that could block some of it. Figures. That will be fixed in the next update sometime down the road. Still, I'm pretty happy with the dialogue that was added. Also, redid all of the quest audio. It sounds SO much better.
As always, I will continue to work on Bowen for a long time to come even if the updates will sometimes be slower than I'd like.
The below spoiler is staying until I have more dialogue. It is the quick and dirty way to marry Bowen. Or rather to elope with. There is a lot of relationship stuff planned including a new wedding scene etc but that will probably be 1.1.0

In order to marry Bowen during this release you need to get his relationship score up to at least 85. You can check the score on his Stats page in the MCM.
To raise his relationship score you need to go through the conversations about Love and Religion. You will also need to start learning the Dragon Language. There is one topic in there that will initiate 'romance'. Once you've done that, you will unlock 'About our future together' under 'Can we talk' where you'll be able to elope.
If you just don't want to wait you can use the following in the console. set bb_relationship to ## I use 70 to start unlocking dialogue but you can use anything really.
Next update 
Fix: Bowen would react to the Kolbjorn word wall before it was uncovered. This one will require a new game.
Fix: A temporary debug notification was firing.

Anyway, thanks for checking this out. As mentioned in the description Bowen is not in a finished state.. his current features have been tested and should work but please report anything that seems like a bug. I especially want to know about mod conflicts. Thanks.

Known Recent Issues & Fixes Resetting Bowen using the Uninstall option in the MCM seems to mess up his map tracker. Unsure why. Promises to Keep: Bowen needs better behavior. When using a mortar & pestle Bowen seems to take awhile to break out of the animation (which he does). Bowen seems to be leaving invisible alchemy stations everywhere. Fix in testing. Bowen will teleport custom followers who don't use "WaitingForPlayer" Fixed? Progress learning spells can reset under certain conditions. - Under investigation. Possible Last Seed issue?
lol I am back! Hurry up and fix some stuff! I am updating my old modlist..had to update Bowen as well. His auto version number (on MO2) is still stuck at 0.9.7.0 instead of 12.5. I am going to change it manually.. I even tried deleting Bowen completely and reinstalling but its still at 9.7. Oh well! I've also been on Reddit linking Bowen to people asking about followers. :) I might be getting back to my own mod here shortly. Glad to see you still here and updating!
Edit: Oh noes! The file said it was 12.4! I changed it to that.
Great follower! Is he still being worked on? Does he have his own horse? I really don't like the horse mods they bring too much clutter. I just want all followers to have a mount.
Kinda yes and no? I haven't touched him in awhile due to other projects and distractions but have always meant to come back and do a bunch of dialogue and potential other plans. He presently doesn't have a horse but I do have plans for a quest for one. It was never a priority because of how rarely I use them in my own games.
There is a good chance for an update coming up as I may be doing a collaboration with another follower or two.

great mod, altough when i tested him for the first time to do supply runs in riverwood, he goes to whiterun instead of using riverwood trader and alvor, is this normal?
Yes this is normal. He goes to main town of the hold. A supply run is a little different than shopping by opportunity in that he's trading "with the world" rather than specific merchants. This is because much of the time he (and likewise other merchants) are not 'loaded'. If you want him to stay in town you can tell him to do his own thing for awhile. He will follow his schedule for that town (including shopping) until you leave town or pick him up again.
ah i see didn't read that he have shopping opportunity when following, do these supply runs work with modded worldspace like bruma or wyrmstooth the fomod patch says it make bowen recognize items or is it also giving him schedule and supply runs/marker in those region?, either way very good mod, really felt like player 2, i hate having follower following me around like a drone
also i would like to report a small/soft incompatibility with animated inebriation mod, that mod can distribute drunk animation to npcs with percentage chance with spid, when bowen by chance become drunk the dialogue debug menu kept spamming and it kept going until some time, no need to make a patch i'm just reporting incompatibilities in case anyone here needs it
I don't believe I've done any scheduling for other world spaces yet but I really want to get another update in. That's definitely something I'd like to do. Bowen is always on the lookout for interactions in town. If you're idle long enough for him to sandbox he'll start looking for merchants during store hours or while inside the inns etc. So you'll probably catch him talking to the odd merchant from time to time.
I confess it's been awhile since I looked at Bowen so I'm not entirely sure which debug you're referring to. It sounds like he doesn't like other mods fiddling with his animation. There is some attempt to fix some animation issues that game sometimes throws at him. It's probably related to that. Either way, thanks for the heads up.
I love Bowen! He has been an integral part of my Skyrim experience. 💖 However I am having an issue with his quest retrieving the Nordic tales. When I go to Lost Volkygg and follower the quest marker to the destination, the Nordic tomes are not there. The quest marker just points to an empty spot on a broken shelf.
There is a chance it got knocked out of place (ie during a fight, spell/voice etc). It should be around there somewhere. It could have gotten stuck in the geometry. There's a trick or two to get around this problem.
You can open the console and turn off collision to fly through the rubble and see if you can spot it. (~ for console then TCL for toggle collision). You can try going back to an earlier save. OR you can give yourself a copy through the console. player.additem xxE967F0 01 or you can try to move it to you by using prid xxE967F0 to select it directly,. then while it's selected moveto player.
To find xx you can use Help Bowen (or anything from the mod really). Or you can find the mod index with your mod manager.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful follower! I need some help though please? When I install this mod it still says it is the 0.9.7 version instead of the 0.12.5 version? Am I doing something wrong? Or can I ignore this?
Apologies for the late reply. I've got life going on lately. :P Hmmm.. was it the first install or is it an update? If it's an update you'll need a fresh game as the version number is saved in global variables that'll be baked into the save. I just rechecked my files and the version number is up to date.
No need to apologize! I appreciate you sharing this amazing mod! It is the first install, and on a new game. Also wanna say I absolutely love Bowen to pieces and he has been such an integral member of my follower squad! Plus I love his voice, it is so soothing I can listen to it all day!
Ok, I just checked again and the FOMOD install does say 0.9.7. You can ignore that. (Sorry folks!) I just forgot that was in there and forgot to update it. The MCM menu is updated however and should say 0.12.5 somewhere. (The debug menu I believe). Thanks for mentioning it! It'll be fixed next update when I finally manage to do it. (I swear one of these days really!)
First and foremost, I would like to start by thanking you for creating Bowen,I enjoyed his personality and commentary especially his translation of the word walls , overall he is a fun addition to my adventuring crew, thank you! As such, I would to request permission to port him to xbox ,you would be fully credited and a link would be provided to the original mod. Furthermore, I would like to request permission to upload separate 1k and original resolution versions to give potential user the choice between file space and quality. You're welcome to try though I'm not sure a port is possible. As I'm understanding XBox can't use SKSE? While SKSE isn't strictly required (I went to some length to include to ensure key features didn't need it) I do believe there are a few cases that do need it (ie clothes management, menu etc).
Not yet. I personally don't use horses all that much in my game so it hasn't been a high priority. I do have an idea or two though. I plan to get around to it eventually. He won't start with one and there's a good story reason for that so getting him one will be its own story/quest.
I'm having a minor issue with a notification I keep getting when Bowen is in my party. In the past I would occasionally get this notification "Dialogue stopped by talking or follower in scene" but it didn't happen that often and I mostly just ignored it. I figured it was something from Nether's Follower Framework.
But after I reach the point in the College of Winterhold quest where I talk to mirabelle and she gives me the key to get into labyrinthian, the notification starts firing off constantly. Like every few seconds. If I tell Bowen to wait somewhere it stops. If I dismiss him it stops. But as soon as I bring him back into my party it starts up again. And if I load a save before that point it's not happening, only after I have that conversation.
I thought maybe it's an NFF issue so I tried telling other followers to wait instead but it keeps happening unless I get rid of Bowen. I gave him an NFF ignore token a while ago to make sure it wouldn't interfere with him, but could this be some incompatibility with another mod I have? I like having him around for the word wall translations and how he stops followers from fighting. So I'm hoping this is something I can fix.
Edit a few hours later: So I told him to wait in the College courtyard and went to go do the rest of the quest. Came back and tried to talk to him and I couldn't dismiss him or tell him to follow me. So I saved and quit, reloaded the game, told him to follow me, and now the notification is gone. ?????
Let me just start off by saying, it's totally harmless. Just a debug notification. It SHOULD be disabled by default. Basically, it's meant to keep Bowen from talking over other followers or NPCs during a scene.
Ok I see, the problem is where I put the notification. Apparently, I failed to take it out, but the conditions are if the player or any of the followers are "talking" or involved in a scene. Of course, if Bowen is waiting or dismissed, it's not checking. If the notification is firing outside of those conditions, I can say with certainty that's on the game. I will take it out next update. You don't need to see that. Thanks.
Okay, thanks for the update. It didn't seem to be doing anything to anyone, but it was annoying. And then for it to just randomly stop was also weird. I don't know about coding or programming though, so I figured maybe one of my mods was causing an issue. Either way, love the mod!
man, finally got a breather to sit down with this mod and play a bit with it. only just downloaded it, but looking at the description, if everything said is true, this mod is a god sent miracle. i can't imagine the amount of time that went into coding this. you could have spent that time stuffing him full of meaningless quips and one-liners, but you didn't. you are a selfless author, and i greatly appreciate the effort put into this. can't wait to start my journey with bowen!
Edit: Dialogue about Soldiers and their orders was great. Didn't expect that at all. Excellent work!
