On December 28 2009 the first version of Companion Vilja for Oblivion was released. Today, exactly seven years later, here is the SE-version of Vilja in Skyrim.
It has taken us some time to get her ready for release, mainly for cosmetic reasons; the mod includes many unique npcs with unique faces, and the SE light setting were not treating them kindly. We had especially problems with Vilja's little sister Tindra, who has a completely unique head.
But, now the mod is ready and I hope you will enjoy it.
This add-on will make Vilja more immersive in Solstheim. Requires Vilja in Skyrim and Dragonborn.esm. You'll find the add-on among main files in the files section for this mod.
Please note that you have to be on the Mainland of Skyrim for the add-on to initiate! If you start out in Solstheim, you won't experience any of the changes until you have been back on the Skyrim mainland.
Thanks to all of you, Vilja did the almost impossible.
Vilja was released late in the eveing of 28th of December. Only 72 HOURS!!! after the release, she ended up on a honorable second place in the mod of the month list for december, only a few votes behind the winner. Who would have thought that such a thing would be at all possible? And, had she been released on day earlier, maybe she would even had won? I still haven't fully recovered from that happy surprise, but I sincerely want to thank all of you who voted for her. It's heartwarming to know that so many of you are still enjoying her company after all these years .
MISSING INGREDIENTS LIST at the beginning of Vilja's first quest.
I posted this reply earlier, but it has slided to a previous page, so I'm simply re-posting it as a sticky:
There seems to be a problem with this list (obviously also with the book), however, it's only with the *item*, the quest will proceed normally. I have checked, and I actually did set up this item a bit different than what I then continued to do with other things, so I don't believe there will be any upcoming problems; it's just the item itself that is missing. We will of course eventually fix this up, but as the mod-size is so big and this problem so tiny, we want to wait a little and see if there are other problems that we can sort out the same time. For instance, there seems to be a mod conflict for a limited number of players that have problems with her lightbringing spell, it would be nice if we could do something about this.
So, at the moment, we hope you agree that the inconvenience is so small with having to consol the list that we can wait a little before we make an update.
The list: 2 Taproot 1 Small pearl 3 Slaughterfish scales 2 Mammoth tusks 2 Fly amantia 1 Mudcrab chitin
console if you want the list itself (not necessary): player.additem XX03E7FC 1 (replace the XX with the first two digits that you see when you select Vilja in the console) --------------
FIX FOR CORRUPT FORMLIST
If you for instance remove a mod that includes armor that you have assign to Vilja's wardrobe, her formlists might be corrupted. It has happened in the original Vilja-version and can surely happen in SE, too. But, luckily there is an easy fix for this. It is available in the main section of the downloads, so if you should have unexpected problems with her wardrobe, download it and follow the instructions.
Well, I got married to her. This was a comprehensive...lengthy courting process.
She is now settled in Solitude... Where she actually expressed jelousy in the fact that Jordis lives there. A nice touch. I hope she spends my septims in the market... I have too many. :)
**
Unlike many folks, I had 0 technical glitches... ZERO. I struggled with 2 missions for my own fault (did not read instructions, and struggled with the marriage... I wish I could take Maramal to Boethia. It would be worth swearing fealty to a Daedra, if I get to kill Maramal... no single NPC is more infuriating that the guy who singularly controls ever damn wedding in the realm, but wont explain why he wont marry you)
Maramal Rant over...
I would love to provide some feedback, if wanted.
All of her "subsystems" worked flawlessly. I basically used her every "feature"... The wardrobe being the most cumbersome and inconsistent. The Ostim patch works, but there is something disconcerting to making love to the most talkative NPC in the whole realm, but she has nothing to say after I invite her to come to bed early(sex). Nothing. She has more to say when I step on her toes after a FastTravel. Rather disappointing.
I am quite sure I will never play her again, not because she isn't cool, and feature full, but because her quests are so time consuming (literally TIME is the trigger for much of the dialogue and quests). I dedicated 3 days for this Romance mod. She is a DOLL, but the build up (IMHO) is very long. And her lack of ANY expression of intimacy, even after marriage feels wrong... makes me feel like a simp who has done every thing for her, and she cant even offer the occasional kiss or shoulder rub. I even expected her to say something connected to "traditional values" so that intimacy was completely off the table till a marriage, but she does not. Intimacy is simply NEVER discussed...
Due to the structure of the game/dialogues... she controls the entire flow of the relationship. The player is never given an option to kiss, touch, etc. The "hug" is so lame I would rather get a Kiss offer with a back screen,, than to see that "hug" that looks like two dolls (ken and barbie) with arms folded the right way being handled by a 12 year old playing princess. It is not the fault of the developer, but I would simply remove that feature entirely.
Overall, 9/10 as a companion/follower... high utility 4/10 as a Romantic pursuit ... it is "barely" romance imho. It is simp simp simp till she marries you and then makes no reference to intimacy (from back rubs to actual sex, there is a complete lack of it in commentary). It actually surprised me how the author who was so detailed in so many interactions/tools/features decided to avoid the topic entirely during the many hours of Quests and time together.
Vilja DOES sit on your lap, and that is very neat... but again, just like a manipulative woman would. Not saying she is actually manipulative, but that is the end result... that is how it FEELS to the player who spends so much time doing her every bidding and getting platitudes in return. And the entire time during the "courtship" she refers to you as a "friend". IRL, that is what women do to stave off an advance but not lose contact with a man. I would say the lap sitting combined with calling you a "best friend" is manipulative. But I am getting picky.
Secondarily, and perhaps even more relevant... she changes the pace of the game...completely. She is the ONLY NPC (romanceable or not) who is constantly asking to NOT go somewhere. She wants to stay home, or swim, or sit by the fire. Sounds nice, but it effectively changes the pace of the gameplay. Good/Bad... personal choice. But it should be noted. Once you agree to take her as a follower, and if you wish to pursue a romantic track, you basically give up on regular Skyrim questing, and your life just consists of tending to her every whim (or risk failing the Romance quest). It is pleasant-ish and entertaining, but it is very different.
Her dialogue... is SECOND TO NONE... she seems to have endless voice lines. I had her configured to be allowed to speak as much as she wanted, and I could not believe the amount of content she has. She will idle speak for a couple of hours without repeating dialogue lines. VERY impressive.
Frankly, as an NPC, she is so feature full, that you would expect many other NPCs to be released since her release, re-using much of the tools, and only updating storyline/voice acting. Her "engine" is like no other NPC out there. I thought Lyssia had plenty of lines, but compared to Vilja, Lyssia is illiterate. Very impressive.
I hope this helps someone taking a look at Vilja for a possible playthrough. I am going back to skyrim and try to "go to bed early" with Vilja(ostim patch installed)... I freaking earned it.
On a new game, you can skip her quests. From Emma's web site.
Q:How do I reinstall Vilja? And what about the progress in her storyline?A:
Follow the uninstallation instructions above.
Install Vilja again (please make sure you have deactivated Vilja's add-ons,unique body patch, or alternate looks that requires a patch esp until you can access Vilja's inventory again).
Meet Vilja at The Bannered Mare and go through the very first part of her quest until you can access her inventory via dialogue.
Talk to Vilja, "Traveling together..." → "Off-topic - Configuration and Settings" → "We have already done (some of) your quests!" This will summon Beata to The Bannered Mare, who can help you fast forward Vilja's quests to get back to where you were before uninstallation.
Talk to Beata at The Bannered Mare, go through her options carefully, they should be self-explanatory. Note that you have to skip a bit back and forth in her dialog, for instance, you have to acknowledge that you have finished Vilja's quests before she gives you the option to state that you are romancing Vilja. Just continue to talk to her until you have got everything right, it does work!
Once married a new dialogue option becomes available with plenty of "intimate" options. Her random romantic dialogue is often conditioned to play only in "safe" locations like a player home, but sometimes, out of the blue, in a cold cave or out on the Tundra, she will ask you to give her a hug. Don't do that with your weapons ready though because it can cause your player animations to glitch. She has told my PC she loves them more times than I can count since the wedding so I'm not sure what's going on in a game save where it is not present. Post coital banter is always nice and a "You've done well" could never hurt but as was said by khito07, without an add-on patch that "listens" for the mechanics of an adult animation sequence completion to trigger dialogue, it just isn't going to happen without a third party patch. C'est la vie!
I always imagined Anduniel would move in next door to Proudspire and she and Vilja would be chatting away until old age. Occasionally the Dragonborn and Inigo would mosey on down to the river for some fishing or perhaps a getaway to the Red Lantern or Fusion City. Maybe even invite Lucien along if they were feeling extra patient.
Now that Rigmor has life under control in the Imperial City, that would make a nice spot for family and friends reunions/vacations.
I appreciate all the replies to my OP... good dialogue
As far as I know, through experience with just about every romanceable female NPC, Serana SDA is the ONLY who has post coital commentary. Admittedly, it is not much better than the generic lines from OstimOnDemand, but regardless, it is in there, built-in to the follower original code. Faye had one line. Even Elana, who is the horniest NPC I have played with, has nothing to say after lovemaking.
Elana and Serana SDA are the only 2 who will forcegreet the player for Morning (after you wake up) action. Serana is RARE... SUPER rare.. like once in a whole playthrough for me, but the code is in there.
Elana will ask for it all the time. She is a horny babe.... the horniest. If she sees you naked... she will ask for it. When you wake, she asks for it. It matches her personality. She is a good "package", even with limited/few dialogue lines. In line with Faye, but better.
Ashe was my biggest disappointment. Ashe, in particular, given the arc of her character development, had absolutely NOTHING to say. Not immediately post coital, or ever. She makes no commentary on intimacy at all. NOTHING. Breaks the fantasy for sure. Made me wish the romance track wasn't even there. Might as well push a button instead of trying to live the fantasy of the romance.

Vilja remains, in my opinion, the most complete, complex, and interesting follower on Nexus. A feat for sure, given how long she has been on Nexus. Huge kudos to her and the Author. t still baffles me that her underlying tech was not used in another follower package with different dialogue/story. Vilja's source code has to be in the thousands of lines.
Serana SDA is a close second... less complexity for the personality(much about Serana's story is blended with the Dawnguard's story), but she has abundant commentary about the world.
Romance aside, either follower is an actual good buddy for adventuring the many quests in Skyrim. Their context/quest sensitive dialogue is always welcome.
Thank you again, to the Author, for an amazing experience, and a great mod. Vilja is great. Much respect.
Adding to the knowledge base here... Ahni and Beatrice (LSRS) can become quite horny too... and will forcegreet the player for action frequently (configurable with NPC menu).
Thank you for the tip on Anna's NPCs, but I looked around and saw no reference of an intimacy engine (FG, SL, or Ostim). Did I miss it? I do not care for fade out black screens anymore.
I don't have any more quests to do in my current save, the map is clean, is there any problem installing the mod and dedicating only the quests to it or do I need a vanilla quest?
I understand, but I literally have nothing to lose because I have nothing else to do on the map, so I created a save, installed it and am testing it, if I see something wrong I just need to go back to the save, besides maybe you don't need to be so reluctant to install mods on saves, I cleaned my game and of the more than 500 that I am using, half of them I installed while playing, it depends a lot on the mod whether or not you can install it on a save in progress, usually the modder himself warns when you can't, and even so I always create a backup before testing a new mod.
If anyone is curious, the mod seems to work well without the vanilla quests, sometimes you just need to use fast travel and wait for time to pass to trigger the next quest.
sorry for my horrible English, it's not my native language.
Thanks for the reply, I took a break from the game and was finishing KD2 a few times, I'm going back to her missions now, if that's the requirement then I'll be able to finish her story :)
Her not automatically being essential has been a great nuisance to say the least... Jarek, Xanthys, Flint, and several other followers kept ganging up and wasting her while she cries that they are on the same side. XD .Funny at first but the novelty wore off pretty quick after having to reload several times. Not to mention the new tensions amidst my fellowship from everyone repeatably smoking my future wife (They literally set her on fire... several times). We will work our way passed this eventually.
I will also note that I definitely agree that descriptions should be read but on the other hand, this mods description is an entire friggin book about what she can do. Locating a simple answer can be pretty time consuming and frustrating when you're just trying to play a game. To clarify, I did read it when first downloading the mod as i do with all mods... But I also read the descriptions of 200+ other mods over the course of several days so remembering every detail of each one is improbable for anyone lacking an eidetic memory.
Lucky I was able to quickly find a Reddit thread explaining that you have to go into her "traveling together" -> "off topic" -> "configurations and settings" dialogue and set her to essential manually. Thought I should leave this here for any other poor unfortunate souls, like myself, who just want to get back to the game as quick as possible.
All in all, while i can appreciate the sense of danger that your beloved follower could die... IT'S A FRIGGIN HASSLE. With all that said, I want to be clear that so far i do enjoy Vilja's company and I really appreciate the hard work that went into making this incredibly in-depth follower. I've barely scratched the surface of what she has to offer and already, I am quite impressed. From the sunny days of Oblivion to the winter nights of Skyrim, cheers to everyone that played a part in creating her!
P.S. After typing all this out I remembered this nifty trick called "control + F"... LMFAO could have just searched the word essential on the description. Skyrim + Mods = Mushy brain. BIG sigh. That is all. Good day.
It's a pity that this mod is not updated. In fact, I think vilja is one of the best followers. But maybe she has too many features, some of them may not be suitable for the current gaming environment. For example, the camping option, it almost makes the survival mods look like a joke. And her message horn and the spells added to the player, I think it breaks the immersion a bit, I wish there was some mcm option to disable or enable certain features. Setting it up through dialogue always feels weird to me. I like her, but I wish she had less features.
love the mod I've used since its release thank you for your hard work. I'm having a annoying issue i don't see in FAQ. When i try to retrieve items from her extra storage my items show for a second then disappear. has anyone had this issue or is there a fix?
A great mod indeed. After all these years, I still like Vilja. I started my adventure again, I took this lovely girl with me again. But I need help. I encountered an annoying bug, her health dropped to -30 from time to time. I don't know what caused it.
Had the same problem tried to find what was causing it but no luck but you should be able to use the modav health 130 command to permently increase her health to 100 at least which worked for me.
Nether's Follower Framework. By comparing, I guess it's NFF's problem. It seems that independent followers can't get rid of the influence of that mod, even if you don't import them into the management system. NFF also has other problems, so I'll give up using that MOD for the time being.
Well, what were you expecting? You, I, and the rest downloaded the same version 4.3. There are images of players posted here, comments on how they enjoy the mod, and bug comments, but it's about progression. There are replacer mods for her, add-ons, and Inigo interaction. But somehow your files are corrupt..
I can only suggest re-downloading again. Reload Vilja in Skyrim 4.3 for a Skyrim experience, and install Vilja in Solesthiem for a DLC experience (you will need 4.3 for Solesthiem to work).
Don't add heavy mods mid-playthrough (don't deactive or remove heavy mods of an ongoing playthrough either, even worse to do in fact). Close then reopen the mod manager program you use after installing and sorting another "new" mod, don't go straight into the game right after installing "new" mod(s). Run FNIS or Nemesis before opening game application if you have those. Restarting computer might help too.

Are the files corrupted?
I can only suggest re-downloading again. Reload Vilja in Skyrim 4.3 for a Skyrim experience, and install Vilja in Solesthiem for a DLC experience (you will need 4.3 for Solesthiem to work).
Which data is missing?
