    I always did find it a little cheaty knowing if a person was an enemy (bandit, vampire, etc.) just by hearing them.

    Hi MaskedRPGFan! I thought I saw an article where you said you accepted request for making setting loaders for other mods. But I can't find the link anymore. I have a request if you don't mind.

      Hi,
      Please use this topic to pick mods you want me to patch.

    Sorry to do a bit of a derail right upfront - but how do you get the name on the text in the first place? - I have been playing for years now, and never had names display. Makes it really difficult in crowded places to know who is talking as all I get is the comment itself - whether you know who they are or not.

      I think it has always been like that; try setting this line in your Skyrim.ini to 1. Maybe you turned it off at some point.

      [Interface]
      bShowSubtitleSpeakerName=1

      Thanks - no [Interface] in my Skyrim.ini, there is in Skyrimprefs.ini - but that line is not there at all, let alone with 0 or 1 lol.
      Actually - I don't get many subtitles at all - do get some - could that be edited by RDO or Fus-Ro-D-oh?

      Try adding it and see if that fixes it. Not sure about mods that change it so you will have to disable some and test.

      Hi Tetrol88,
      It is exactly as ToothyMoose wrote. But if you still don't have the names displayed, then:
      • download this mod,
      • open the "No NPC names in subtitles.ini" file,
      • change
        bShowSubtitleSpeakerName=0 to bShowSubtitleSpeakerName=1
      • add
        bDialogueSubtitles=1
        bGeneralSubtitles=1

      This mod forces the settings, so you don't have to worry about what you typed in the Skyrim config.

      If you have any trouble with the above, let me know, I will send you a link to the modified ini file.

      Thx - got it working now - I have no idea how the subtitle stuff got removed as I would not have consciously done it - funny how a mod to remove something that I had not seen allowed me to get it going by making me aware it existed lol

      That's one reason why I prefer to have a mod that enforces the settings. Skyrim's config is often subject to modification, and this way I don't have to worry about something not working the way I think it should.

      I had the bDialogueSubtitles=1in my Skyrimprefs.ini (which doesn't get overwritten by mods)
      and I added bShowSubtitleSpeakerName=1 to it, because I was often wondering who was saying what. Thanks for the info MaskedRPGFan
