I can confirm this mod does work, but it has to be placed as low as possible because even things like Morrowloot Ultimate or NPC cosmetic mods can overwrite the removal of the essential flag
Has NO ONE actually made a new updated version of the mod that will work? I'd love to go around slaughtering everyone, but can't do s#*! since some NPCs just WON'T die because they're essential
I know that Requiem removes the essential tag from NPCs and worked at least on some versions of AE, not sure about current patch. Granted that's a full overhaul mod, but the fact that it did work means it's possible to shut off the essential status for all NPCs.
@ErpaDerpa What other context is needed? This isn't a complicated mod. It comes with one esp. And when you activate the esp, you get an infinite loading screen. That's it. You don't need to know our history...? The file says it requires USSEP. So people download it with that as per instructions. Funny thing is, it doesn't actually work with USSEP, neither AE or old SE 1.5.9 version of the game. The complaints are valid and not much context is needed all things considered. Ive tested this with purely this mod and USSEP installed btw. Perhaps this was made for a very specific version of USSEP, which isn't mentioned. If anything, I'd say this problem is due to mod author negligence. Sadly they haven't touched this in like six years so I doubt we'll be seeing a true fix at this point.
BTW to OP, use the non-ussep version in file section. Ironically, it's the only one that actually works with USSEP. Though beware it does have a yellow skin glitch for children.
I recently instaled this mod, there was nowhere information that this mod requiers other mod. There i see some mod is nessecary but acualy not but is nesecary... now i can't play because i see constantly loading screen... And that's it... nothing more. This is all i know...
I've tried adding it to every single ini file i could find and none have worked. I'm running a modlist version of skyrim that copies the game into its own portable folder. The game root folder inside it doesnt contain anything called Skyrim.ini, but does have SkyrimPrefs.ini (AVONG/Game Root/Skyrim/) and Skyrim_Default.ini (AVONG/Game Root/) but adding these lines to either of those didnt work. I also tried adding the lines to the Skyrim.ini, SkyrimCustom.ini, and SkyrimPrefs.ini files in the My Documents/My Games/Skyrim Special Edition folder but literally none of those work either. Everyone makes this sound so easy and forgets that its not so simple when you're working with custom setups. Anyone have luck with doing this in an AVO setup? Haven't tried this mod yet but after reading the bugs I'm reluctant to try it. Might not have a choice though.
The main file says it requires USSEP. Well, it doesn't actually work with USSEP, and if you have that installed, it's why you get the bug. There is a MISC file that does not require USSEP. Ironically, through personal testing, it is the only one that actually work with USSEP. The caveat being, it has a bug that makes children's skin yellow. Doesn't affect their faces, but their skin. I haven't messed that much, but you might be able to fix it yourself with some ingenuity though. Aside from that, ry not putting it too far down your load order. I did at first and for whatever reason had other weird skin bugs as well.
P.S. If you don't like the complications with this mod and are okay with all NPCs being killable by anything, don't even bother with this mod, instead: Put this in the Skyrim.ini file your game uses: [GAMEPLAY] bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0
does this also allow you to kill every quest npc? cause one time i just feel like killing everyone! and do not care about quests at all nice save that one
"Some npcs are quest protected so they wont die." This is said multiple times in the description. I do feel you though. I don't understand the point of this limitation. Idk if its intentional or an actual limitation for the mod. I've played long enough to know what will break and what wont when I kill NPCs. Just let me have my damn control. At least as an extra option. I swear if this mod doesn't let me shove an axe in Maul's face the moment I walk into Riften. Then its practically useless for me haha. Have not tested yet. Edit: Sorry I just looked, and there actually is an optional ini file which does enable ALL npcs to be killed. By anyone though, so it is much more dangerous. I suppose this probably due to some limitation.
welp, i didn't bother to read the description at all, i was just so frustrated at the fact that i couldn't kill the Jarl Balgruuf when his guards made me so mad so i came here searching for this and downloaded it without hesitation also typed this without hesitation, i just hate these guards so damn much and they keep saying that by the name of the Jarl like i even care who the so called "Jarl" is.
i've played through this game 1000+ times so all these jarls can burn in hell.
LMAO... yes Essential exists for a reason, specifically THIS. You kill main characters, of course the game is broken... this is what you signed up for BuDdY.
@SpookRooster What? "Essential only exists to railraod players." If they just made Alduin invulnerable, that would have been practically no different from essential. They also specifically, manually add essential to NPCs that they specifically don't want to be killed under any circumstance. So if they just used a straight up invulnerability system, they'd just apply it to those NPCs as well... which would make them immovable gods. I'm not sure you actually understand what the essential flag does or why they use it. As a hint, it's because they deem essential NPCs, as..... essential to the game, in one way or another. I don't think it's the actual mechanic itself you don't like, you just don't like the fact that they made certain NPCs unkillable (which again, can be done in numerous different ways, the methodology wouldn't really change its end affect). Think.

I WANT to murder Brynjolf. I want to kill Marven Blackbriar
I want them dead.
