I notice Many issues Posted about "no map markers in the compass"
Compass Overhaul comes with disabled undiscovered icons. Enable it by changing bShowUndiscoveredLocation Markers =0 to bShowUndiscoveredLocation Markers =1
(do not add space between location and marker, space added to prevent command reformat to - bShowUndiscoveredLocatijavascript-event-stripped1)
Changes to my ini are as follows: [Display] ; Use metric units instead of imperial: 0 = imperial, 1 = metric bUseMetricUnits=0 ; Show/hide undiscovered map markers: 0 = hidden markers, 1 = visible markers bShowUndiscoveredLocation Markers=1 ; Show "?" marker instead of the location marker: 0 = normal marker, 1 = "?" marker bUndiscoveredMeansUnknown Markers=0 ; Hide/show distance and name for undiscovered location markers: 0 = show info, 1 = hide info bUndiscoveredMeans UnknownInfo=0
I have bShowUndiscoveredLocation Markers=1, but all undiscovered markers and even some discovered are invisible. It displays the text, but misses the icon. I have 2.1.1 and CoMap v4, plus Bruma (but I have issues in Skyrim too).
Hi, have the same issue, all undiscovered markers are invisible, even after changing the setting in the ini file, and also in a new game, nothing worked.
Hi, before changing the value to one to show undiscovered locations it wasnt showing them as expected, but when I changed it as describes, it actually just completely hides my compass now, what to do
Had the same issue with markers being invisible, though I could still see the info about the name and distance of a location when facing its direction. Finally just uninstalled CoMAP because given the choice, I'd rather use this mod and live with having vanilla map markers.
I immediately loved this mod while testing but feared I did something wrong when no undiscovered markers appeared, came here looking for exactly this, trying it now, im sure it will work fine. Great work!
Just wanted to add an addendum I found today - if you are using a widescreen set-up and have the inevitable fixes, the following is important:
If you are using : "Compass Navigation Overhaul (Wide Screen)" from Nolvus It has it OWN .ini file which overrides the main file's settings and you should be editing this one. If you've merged mods, you'll be fine (but not a good idea) but if you have them separate you will need to edit JUST the widescreen .ini file
1) Use CNO 2.1.0 (I do not have the link, sorry, just google it) 2) Use CoMAP 3.4.2 3) Overwrite CoMAP with its CNO workaround, also listed on CoMAP's files
This fixed this issue and all incompatibilities between the two mods.
Doing this alone did not fix the missing map markers on the compass for me. However, by installing CoMAP DLL Hotfix for SkyrimSE 1.6.629 along with Dynamic String Distributor (DSD) and changing the INI settings as mentioned in the Sticky, the markers showed up. I did not need to install an older version of CoMAP or Compass Navigation Overhaul, just the DLL Hotfix and DSD.
I solved this by using old comap — https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/56123?tab=files&file_id=297823&nmm=1
then — Dear Diary mod and Dear Diary Compass navigation overhaul patch.
Maybe it will be useful for someone. Working on Skyrim 1.6.353. I don't like Dear Diary's compass... but those, who want play on older versions must compromise)) At least it's working
It worked for me! I'm using vortex, and I just went to where the mod itself was installed and changed the .ini there, now i've got nice little question mark markers :D
Make sure you guys are changing the Skyui ini file too, if you're using it. It also has a 'hide undiscovered' setting, which may be the reason you're not getting the markers to show up even after changing the setting.
If anyone here is using Edge UI and is having trouble making the markers visible on compass, you need to go in your mod manager and select EDGE UI -> OPEN IN FILE MANAGER -> SKSE -> PLUGINS -> AND CHANGE BOTH .INI located inside the folder. That was the reason why editing the .ini in CNO did nothing, Edge Ui .ini's for CNO were overriding it.
If that didn't work, go into SKYHUD.txt and change:
Fix for Disappearing Compass when using Nordic UI Patch
Nordic UI patch also caused compass to disappear for me.
I reinstalled Nordic UI and this tip fixed it:
You need Nordic UI, and when installing it, in the FOMod, SkyHUD, Map Markers, and SkyHUD preset needs to be checked. Even those three only checked and the rest are not is enough to make CNO Nordic UI skin mod, if you use other UI re-skins like Dear Dairy, Dragonbreaker etc., but make sure their SkyHUD and Map Markers are not checked.
Someone reported that only Nordic UI Map Markers option needs to be ticked, but I ticked all three.
This mod was working fine for me, but after downloading a few mods today, I started having this issue of undiscovered icons not appearing, yet their names and distances would appear. I don't use any other UI mod that touches the compass. I just want to ask: how many people experiencing this issue have Beyond Skyrim - Bruma? 'Cause I just downloaded that today and that mod does touch the map markers, so maybe it's that? I didn't download anything else today that would've touched the compass or the map markers.
If it doesnt work i means you are using multiple compass overhauls. Had the same problem, Im using COMAP, Atlas,Infinity and CNO. Had the same problem at the beggining but tweaked .ini files in every mentioned mods, and now I have small question markers with names and distances! Thats my CNO .ini IMO Most important!

To anyone using these mods and also Bruma, I got a funny feeling the latter might be messing up things. I never had this problem in the first prior to getting Bruma.
Edit: It would appear my hunch is correct. I'm really just on my first modding streak in Skyrim here, but I found that if you're using the "Custom Map Markers" option when installing the Bruma files, the vanilla undiscovered map markers will appear invisible.
I haven't gotten into the area of Bruma yet (currently doing a fresh start) so I'm not sure how its map markers will appear, but in any case, using the "No Custom Map Markers" option will fix it.
Edit 2: Okay, immediate follow-up here lol, it appears the "Custom Map Markers" option seems to affect just Skyrim (per its install description in Vortex), so I guess the reason why they become invisible in the first place is probably because of asset overlap between Bruma in Atlas' (that's what I think it might be, even if might highly be wrong).
Is this only works in new game? I got immediate ctd when loading recent save, resolved when i disable the mod. I havent try it on new game though, maybe i'll test this later. I really like the idea because with survival mode, i kind of trying to do pending quests along the way
I had a very similar error start appearing when I downloaded this mod. However a different EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION was appearing. I ended up fixing it by reverting my ENB version from v0.503 to v0.499. After that no CTD! Hopefully this helps :)

So, am I actually stupid, or does anyone else simply not have an .INI file for this mod?
My markers display, but there's no ini file, so I can't set it to Metric, nor can I set undiscovered markers hidden. I've searched my documents skyrim folders, my mod organizer folders and my actual base game folders, and there's just no .INI file at all.
I have Nordic UI and the Nordic UI skin installed. I've checked the files in *all* of my UI mods, including base Nordic, Infinity UI, even Crafty Quest Journal, and no .INI to be found has CNO settings.
if you're using Mod Organizer 2, you need to find where you have Mod Organizer storing its Instance settings. Go into MO2's Settings, look for Paths, and Base Directory
you need to go to: BASEDIRECTORY\Skyrim Special Edition\mods\Compass Navigation Overhaul\SKSE\Plugins
in there you should have a "CompassNavigationOverhaul.ini"
I'm not sure if it's this mod. but I am having a compass with some undiscoverable locations.
What I mean by that is, there is a ? in my map. But when I go near to it, it wont pop up what it is. I tried to TCL to really get to it but it just wont. Like this marker is just there.
There is 2 in whiterun actually. quite near each other. 1 across just the main gate. the other outside the main gate walls on the right. Not sure what this is.
EDIT ; I used TMM 1, turns out they are map markers for SOUL CAIRN. (St jiub the eradicator , Soul Pool Fountain, Reapers Lair,) THey are pointing "UP" in the Compass lol.
Looks like these are markers from Atlas Map Markers? But why can they be seen Just outside whiterun??
Did you ever find a fix for this? I've just set my CNO undiscovered markers to show and its showing all sorts of markers for locations that don't actually exist, right outside of Whiterun.
Found a fix for me, not sure if you'll have the same luck. I didn't have Atlas Map Markers at the very bottom of my load order because I was using Flat World Map Framework which also had to be last in my load order.

;;Compass
bHideEnemyHealth=0
bHideEnemyMarker=0
bHideLocations=0
bHideUndiscoveredLocations=2
bHideQuest=2
(I think this is correct. It indicates that: 0=auto; 1=always on; 2=always off in the text file.)

Just like UpsidedownMonkey did.

Is there an alternative edition shows the distance in meters instead of feets?
