With each game start I notice the following entries in SoftShadows.log. Is this a problem?
Did not change anything, just actived it and playing in VR.

    [info] [26448] [XSEPlugin.cpp:59] Loaded plugin
[info] [26260] [XSEPlugin.cpp:90] Failed to register addon

Install ReShade. You only need the dxgi.dll from ReShade and nothing else.
If still no luck, then make sure you Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini aren't set to "ReadOnly".

this is getting flagged by by antivirus software.. anyone else having this problem??  it's always worked fine for me in the past and now all of the sudden it's getting blocked by bitdefender and quarantined.. maybe it's just an issue on my end who knows, i ran it through virustotal and they said it's fine.. wondering if bitdefender is just throwing out false positives

Came here to report the same thing.  OK yesterday; quarantined by AV today.  Also on Bitdefender.

      Ditto. Bitdefender found
      Gen:Variant.Lazy.468505
on mine also. I quarantined and deleted it both from my Skyrim folder and my mod staging folder.

      Edit:
I had Virustotal reanalyze it, as it stated that the last analysis was from 3 months ago. Now it is showing seven antivirus scanners detecting it as malicious:

      https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/56d7920f300c26147a89414eb05064f1e5e84c220c1b39970fc326ad967f8068/detection

      Edit 2:
Also, the green “Safe to use” checkmark on the files page, for the most recent version of Soft Shadows links to a Virustotal page that lists six antivirus programs saying it is malicious.

I just scanned the DLL with Avast antivirus and it didn't find anything malicious.

Does the Mod alter my Skyrim.ini and the pref.ini ?

If yes, then why cant this mod create his own or use the custom.ini one can create?

If not, then all is fine.

    Thanks in Advance!

Very nice mod, too bad it "conflicts" with lux orbis (probably any shadowcasting light) shadows making them also softer, too soft for and can't almost see them. But maybe someone will even like that, maybe with lower values in the ini.

Guys, is there a way to increase the quality of the shadow from a distance? The shadow is good near me, but after 3 meters it becomes a blur. I've messed with everything and still haven't found a way to fix it. This problem has been bothering me for 5 years.

I assume u are using Upscaler from Puredark and DLSS Option. Try to do things with that option : mMipLodBias

I do not use. I do not know that.
      It works?
      Does it work with ENB?

      Update
I tested it and it didn't change anything. The shadow remains blurry after 3 meters.

does this make use of the pisson filter that literally pisses on a poisson disk over texelvertexedgeshadowpixelmap? CAN WE PRESCRIBE OUR OWN TEXTURE... CAN THE TEXTURE PERHAPS BE IN THE NORMAL MAP... I WANT MY SHADOW EDGES TO BLEND INTO NORMALBUMPCRAZYMAPS

im sorry i just cant, this is too good.

    tldr, fPoissonRadiusScale=420.247 ???

another tldr, id love to see a pepe happy texture replacing the poisson disk filter, afaik the poisson is just quick math and utilizing an actual dds texture to have peepo happily scattering my shadowmaps seems obtuse.

    perhaps one day....

    Hello fellow community modders!

Just putting this here in case it can save other modders/players 7 hours of ripping their hair out -- This mod contains a JSON file that WILL override some of your SkyrimPrefs.ini, specifically object and actor fade. For me, this caused issues with NPCs spawning in, and then RESPAWNING on top of me as I got closer to them, appearing to teleport around my game world. My LO is 1000 mods deep so it took me a long time to find which one was doing this....but confirmed! Its this!

You can change the config in this mod's JSON file, just know ANY of your SkyrimPrefs settings will always revert to what THIS mod's file says, which will make it appear as though your in-game settings sliders arent working, or your beth.ini isn't properly applying, or your windows file permissions are wonky, well.........nope! It's Soft Shadows/Shadow Boost.

The default config in this mod is very low for actor fade, the specific setting that was creating the issue in my gameplay. This is of course to save you on performance.
I bumped mine up to max30 min 15, but I run a 3070 on a new rig, so BEWARE that this increase can affect your performance, especially with ENB and lighting mods. NPCs are particularly hard on skyrim performance, so do keep this in mind.

All in all, mod is working just fine, so thank you doodlum!  I just wish I had known that this override would occur, it would have saved me a lot of headache. Hopefully I can save someone else the trouble!

This mod doesn't have a json file though? it has an ini, a pdb, and a dll.

I believe you are posting on the wrong mod. This mod does not touch fade values. You want Shadow Boost comments. In the INI for that mod (doodlum switched from JSON to INI), you can find settings to TURN OFF the min max for Shadows, LOD and Terrain...or match them to your actual SkyrimPrefs.ini.

This mod diffuses shadows to make them less unattractive and to match lighting (cloudy, sunny...).

I wanna confirm something, so if I currently use ENB and your mod which is currently at version 1.1.0, I don't need to update it to 2.0?

I am still quite new to the modding and such, are there instructions to install? I don't want to mess it up.

Nothing complicated, just click download with mod organizer and install. I recommend Mod Organizer 2 over Vortex.
