Best of all - aside from it looking fantastic, is I hardly see any impact on performance over my own cobbled together reshade preset - no FPS drop and looks 100 times better than my hodgepodge mashup of shaders lol.
I love it. Improves my game greatly. Much more atmospheric. f*#@ all the drama and Boris and whoever else bitches. It's awesome. Endorsed. Long live Community Shaders, too.
Is it ok to use FakeRayTracing.fx by itself, and only copy that into the reshade-shaders folder and add the entries into the ReShadePreset, or does it require any of the textures?
I'm asking from a lack of knowledge and what I read over in the SkyGuild Discord. The Skyward ReShade author (or someone in that Discord) said that only one ReShade preset could be run at the same time, but here you seem to be saying you can use this with any ReShade preset. Exactly HOW can you do this? (Pretend you're talking to a five year old :) ) I haven't made up my mind on a ReShade preset yet but I'm probably going to be switching over to this and Community Shaders just for the performance kick. Right now my monitor is only 1080px and 60hz so I really didn't see any performance increases using the Patreon version of Boris' ENB and PureDark's UpScaler. To tell the truth I actually like (and prefer) something like the pictures you have included here. Are they any particular preset or ENB used in conjunction with this, or just Radiant Realism?
EDIT: Oh, and does this play well with ELFX/ELFX Shadows? I guess you mention instructions on the front page. Simpler than I thought, so you can probably ignore that part...
Hello Skinjack! Mooit was talking about the shader, not the preset. A reshade preset is a combination of individual shaders working together. This means you can take ANY shader and use it inside your favorite preset. There is a folder in the game's folder called "reshade-shaders". There is where all the shaders reside that are currently present in your reshade installation. Usually you don't use them all in a preset, just a select few, working together to produce a pleasant result. You can open the reshade UI in-game and select/deselect any shader you want to add/remove to/from your preset, and see the results on-the-fly.
After this introduction, I hope you are less confused. You can get any shader file and copy it in your "reshade-shaders" folder. It will show up in the reshade UI the next time you load your game, ready to be selected and added to your preset. That's what mooit wanted to do.
All screenshots shown here are without any ENB! They were taken only with this reshade preset uploaded here. It plays well with ELFX mods, or any other lighting mods for that matter.
So is it ok to only use this without any other ReShade Preset? For starters. I like this better than a lot of presets I've seen. It looks richer... less washed out. Almost ENB-ish. At least based on the pictures. I am thinking about going the Community Shaders route if that makes a difference...
This "mod" here is a ReShade preset that I created to showcase my fake raytracing shader. It's a complete preset that can only be used standalone, you cannot add it to another preset. It is not a single shader. So, to answer your question, yes, download and install ReShade and then download this preset, copy it to your skyrim's folder and then select it as the preset you want to use (through the ReShade UI in-game). As for Community Shaders, this preset has some requirements listed on this page. One of them is Community Shaders.
Alright, thank you. Yeah, I did notice CS was a requirement. Just thought I would mention I am going that route. With my old monitors the Patreon Boris ENBseries really gains me minimal fps improvement (2-3) so I'm probably better off with this until I get more than 1080px, 60hz. And this will save me from the fps loss of the previous ENBseries before Boris streamlined it.
I don't know anything about "Patreon Boris ENBseries", but your monitor is not a problem regarding your fps performance. It's your system: cpu, gpu and ram. Anyway, ReShade will always be better in performance, but ENB will always be better in visuals. ;)
I decide to test community shader option, after years of using only ENB, and i was shocked, ENB is destroying a lot of details on textures, no matter wich ENB you are using, and i have used alot, after i set up all, the only thing what im missing was the lightning, and of course texture blending and particle light, i hope that comes in the near future, but for the lightning your reshade comes in, and holy dragonborn, with your raytracing shader it looks epic, absolutly awesome and performance is outstanding, great work, i think this is realy the only reshade preset that can realy match up the lightning from ENB, congrats.
I must say, im missing not realy much without ENB now and i think your raytracing is pointless for an ENB, it realy shines for non ENB users and is a must have, keep up your great work <3
@mooit. Here is the ReShade mod comments thread. Support for the ENB RTGI is available only to my patrons.
@Krakadus. Boris (ENB dev) asked me to take it down as it wasn't real ray tracing. I also got insulted from l00ping (creator of NAT ENB) and I don't need this drama in my life. The ENB mod is available only to my patrons in Patreon now.
unfortunately, it was kinda expected, while the idea is good, to name this screen space ray marching shader raytracing was borderline, even Marty RTGI is borderline lie because it's screenspace, but it's quite advanced. Still your shader allows interesting color grading.
I like this one as opposed to other reshades, but the ray tracing produces weird white blotches on the hands when using magic. Had to disable it for now. I'd be interested if there's some way of fixing this.
Impressive stuff. Out of curiosity, does the ray tracing used here benefit from nVidia's RTX series, or from AMD's ray tracing optimizations on their their RDNA3 cards?
No. It's simulated ray tracing so any ray tracing improvements from GPU manufacturers will be irrelevant. Rasterization performance of the card will still be the driving factor behind FPS, not path tracing.
I wanted to make the ENB shader more realistic, it took me one week to see that I can't fix it any further. I released it as is here. It's not perfect, but it is something...
I've adapted the enbeffectpostpass.fx for the ENB i normally use: Natural View Tamriel (NVT) ENB for Cathedral following ur istructions, now i'll try to notice the difference with some testing.

One is that I see few improvements over my lightly retouched game via shaders. (Using a combo of RAID+Imaginator+shaders)
The second is that it seems to impact moderately in performance, not as hard as Grass Colision + Grass Lighting but noticeable.
The third is that despite the critics I think it is an awesome mod and I encourage you to work in it.
Endorsed.
Oh FakeRayTracing, this looks nice!

Thanks for the reply, keep up all the great work, thank you so much for all your great mods!

Hey, it's back, but this time I see for Community Shaders!
I've been playing with Community Shaders, it's present state of development is really nice.
CS interior lighting needs work, I hope we'll see better interior lighting support soon, hopefully on the level of LUX.
Interior lighting is about the only thing holding me back from making the jump.
Keep up the great work!

Why did you hide?

I respect your decision.
Unfortunately I'm not in a position to pay for mods, so I hope you'll change your mind about charging for it, and make it free again.
THANKS for all your mods, take care!

optimizations on their their RDNA3 cards?
Rasterization performance of the card will still be the driving factor behind FPS, not path tracing.
I wonder: could a similar result be tecnically achieved through an ENB implementation?
that's great to know!
Can't wait to be able to try it out.
I released it as is here.
