The 1st update for the new year is here. We're still working on a bigger update for Taliesin, but we wanted to release this medium sized fix for our favorite ex-Thalmor. It's been a couple of years since our first release of Tally and we have taken in a lot of suggestions, requests and criticism since then.
Major Changes -Taliesin's inappropriate lines have been removed/rewritten and revoiced. When we first began working on Taliesin, we did it without any boundaries or mindset of Taliesin's character. Since then, not only has Taliesin grown but so have we. Looking back at these lines, we have grown uncomfortable with certain lines of dialogue and we've both agreed to change those lines and move forward with boundaries we've both set for Taliesin.
-An additional conversation was added. Complete "Diplomatic Immunity" and have spoken with Taliesin about his upbringing for this conversation to be triggered. -The start to a romance quest has been added. Please note:This is the barebones version and we will be working to add more to the player's relationship with Taliesin. This is a late Valentine's day gift from the VA for the players.
-Roughly 300 new lines have been added to replace the lines that have been removed.
-Unfortunately, the cape has been removed. Mostly because the saturated colors have been distracting and out of place.
Minor Changes
-Berwhale's damage has been nerfed.
-Taliesin's one-handed trait has been removed. AKA Tally was nerfed again.
-A Note and Journal has been added at the Shrine of Talos where you first meet Taliesin.
-A new cabin has been added near Half-Moon Mill. It's locked at the moment, but it's purpose will be revealed in the future.
-Taliesin no longer refers to Khajiit players as "Kitten".
OMG Iol. Tally co-author/voice actor here. My wife literally just suggested the same nickname last night! Mostly because we both have an irreverent sense of humor. I'll defer to the mastermind DynamiteGal on that one.
Only the Chosen one can can open the drawer containing Berwhale the Avenger! He is to go in search of Punak the Destroyer, far beyond, in Saffron-Waldon. Make haste young Tally, for the Beast will beset the Minions of Threek upon you! 😂😂😂
I'm having an issue with the romance quest. Tally reacts to the amulet but nothing happpens after that. No new dialogue options. Is there a command to force the quest to start? Thanks in advance
After he reacts to the amulet of Mara, when you initiate conversation again while still wearing it, there should be a dialogue option called "You don't know there's a tradition behind this amulet, do you?". That'll progress your relationship with Taliesin.
i don't usually care much about male followers, i tried lucien and his personality didn't really stuck on me, but when i came to that Talos shrine and this sassy ass thalmor gentleman told me that i look like 'i hobbled my outfit from random dead people' i knew this one was going to be a wild journey
Where do I begin with this stud muffin? I LOVE Taliesin. Out of all the follower mods, I think I've used him the most. Not only is he's funny as hell and well designed, but the voice acting is top notch. He truly feels like he belongs in the game, and having an ex-Thalmor agent helping the Dragonborn is REALLY interesting. I currently activated his romance quest with my priestess of Akatosh, and I'm not disappointed with the foundation that has been established so far.
Now I've been following Tally since the beginning, and I know I might be a minority here but I didn't think his dialogue was offensive or inappropriate. A lot of the stuff he said would fly over most people's heads, especially since it's mostly innuendo. Do I miss it? Yes and No. While I'm not laughing as much, I still think he's an excellent character with or without the innuendos. However...I would like for posterity sake to have access to the removed dialogue somehow. Perhaps make a clean and 'not so clean' version? This is of course completely up to you, but I'm just letting you know that I streamed Tally to 8 of my friends and we had a blast BECAUSE of those lines. In my eyes, it made him feel more real and socially awkward, which caused an interesting dynamic between him and the Dragonborn (I always pair Tally with charismatic Bretons). Like his innuendos came off more like Austin Powers brand of humor than something I would consider 'crossing the line'. Like I said, I still LOVE the character and will continue to support him no matter what you guys choose.
Just keep in mind that this game has stuff like gore and torture chambers. A High Elf exclaiming innuendo really pales in comparison to stuff like Roggvir's beheading for example. Not everyone is going to like Tally, but that's ok! Actually, the fact that some people find him annoying is a GOOD thing. Means he's got dimensions to him and that makes him feel more...real. I think you guys are smart enough to find a balance for the next update. Until then, TALLY HO!
As the writer of both the personal monologues and some of the inappropriate lines, I'd like to take the reins and address this one.
Taliesin's journey is one of personal growth. The intention for his character was always to be someone who matures out of that perpetual state of adolescence. Innuendos are a defense mechanism, a way to shield away from aspects of discomfort and trauma in his life. Over time, it's likely that he will grow more fond of the player character and maybe bring some of those back, depending on how the romance or friendship quest options develop. But we heard the feedback. We took the suggestions. And we realized that Taliesin was something more. Something deeper.
Everyone who leaves a repressive environment and experiences freedom of speech for the first time goes through this phase. Leaving home, we often say and even do bold things because we are no longer shackled by the constraints of our parents/religion/government, or whatever we feel is oppressing us. But then, as with all things, it comes full circle. We grow. We realize that there's a time, place, and context for those things.
Taliesin was always written to be sort of an overgrown teenager with a lot of idealistic views, just like Astarion. But there's no reason for him to stay that way forever. There's a duality to him. You say that what made him feel more real was his Austin Powers jokes; I would argue that what makes him more compelling is learning how to wield that wit and put it to better use. Being an informant for the DB and taking on the Thalmor/his past in some ways, for instance. Being a voice of reason in the game. Having opinions about the DB's morality and adjusting the relationship dynamics according to each decision. These are all things we're experimenting with.
There's more to life than just innuendo. And many users agree.
No problem! I'm all for free expression and you guys have the right to do whatever you want for your character. My main point was not to critique but more about my personal feelings as a gamer. And the fact that I don't mind what you guys do with Tally as long as you keep moving forward, means that he's a great character and you two should feel proud.
As I've decided to return to Skyrim after a break, I was so delighted to see an update! Enjoyed new lines and a romance start, of course. As a Khajiit, I actually loved the nickname Kitten, miss that a lot rn. Maybe Tally could save that nickname for a romance arc? Would love that a lot. <3 Can't thank you enough for such an enormous work!
I really liked this mod and that's why I'm waiting for more updates and more romance. I play as a female character of the snow elf race, and somewhere I read (or saw in some video, I don't remember) that Taliesin reacts to the player's race, including races from mods, although I didn't see this in the game itself. I understand that few people play as races from mods, so there's not much point in doing something like this, but it would be great to see some unique reactions.
There are a few bits of dialogue that's exclusive to a certain races for Taliesin. The one with the Snow Elf race was removed because it was inappropriate.
I'd love to see a patch with Ordinator. I have the Perform perk which I took just for Tally but he still says that he's waiting to see me perform ;) That was a bit of a let down when he mentioned it during a performance. I think a patch for that would be perfect. I didn't mind being called 'Kitten'. It's a lot better than the "What do you want, cat?" that you get from many of the other NPCs.
I was wondering if anyone could list any quests/locations Tal comments on outside the main story. I know his personal quest and other things are in the works but I'm eager to hear more from him now. Trying to avoid playing the dragonborn quest line as much as possible.
I have just added this to my load order and started a new game after my old HDD took its last breath. Got my first SSD < ya ya, Im late to the party.. Give this old gamer a break lol > and started fixing a mod list to play again. I have played every major Elder Scrolls games since Arena and every time I played a dark elf. Sooo... every time I start a conversation with Taliesin just about... his response is priceless. It is obvious either or both of you have played Morrowind and it makes me grin every time. Love it!!! SO far I am really loving this follower. I just reached level 14 and heading to High Hrothgar with him, Inigo and Lydia in tow. This is going to be a great playthrough. Thank you for this!
In the next update, add dialogue to tell him to stop calling you Kitten when you play as a Khajiit. I want to knock his head off every time he says it.
