Following is everything known to go wrong with the game, and solutions:
Game won't start after patch 1.0.2 with Ultra+ installed. Please run the included clear-shader-caches.bat in the _troubleshooting tools\Last Resort folder, or manually delete the 2 or 3 %LocalAppData%\Saved\D3D*.* files
The screen is black / very dark — press CTRL + F8 to toggle HDR while in-game, or edit S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chornobyl\Stalker2\Binaries\Win64\UltraPlusConfig.ini and change HDR to false
Crash on startup, or low/inconsistent FPS — the config files are messed up—see the appropriate folder in _troubleshooting tools for instructions (bundled with the mod)
Crash to desktop with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED — see folder with same name
The above didn't help, but the game is still performing terribly or massive stutters — the shader cache is likely messed up: See "Last Resort" folder
General Performance The below applies to all new 3D games, in rough order of priority:
Remember to delete old versions of the mod
If you have low FPS, first try disabling overlays (e.g. Steam, GameBar, NVidia, SpecialK)
For AMD CPUs, I recommend disabling Core Isolation until AMD & Microsoft have a full fix
For AMD CPUs, if you haven't, please run AMD's latest chipset driver. It will often find important new or missing drivers
Disable overclocking for UE 5.0–5.3 games
For Intel CPUs, disable E cores for the game, by setting processor affinity to your P cores in Task Manager. Ty to Olek
Generally exclude gamename.exe and the game folder from antivirus real-time scanning
(Ideally also exclude %AppData%\Local Low\NVIDIA\PerDriverVersion\DXCache and %LocalAppData%\SilentHill2\Saved and %LocalAppData%\AMD\DXCache and %LOCALAPPDATA%\AMD\DXCache from real-time scanning)
Also exclude games from Control Flow Guard (click Start > type Exploit Protection > Click Program Settings > click Add program to customize > click Add by program name > type SHProto-Win64-Shipping.exe > Scroll down to Control flow guard (CFG) > Click Override > Switch to Off). Ideally also exclude SHProto.exe
Do a GPU driver removal with DDU in Safe Mode then reinstall the latest driver
Try enabling Resizable Bar more info here and intro video here. from my testing this doesn't make any difference for this game, but YMMV
Still no luck? If you've tried all the above and still no joy, for the fastest help please join the Discord, or I check here in Posts when I can.
With 2.4.1 all game issues should be resolved (this version fixes AMD crashes). Since 2.1.8 the performance has dramatically improved and we have resolved the following issues:
- Pop in for buildings and other game assets including certain types of trees, puddles, and various types of props. All of these assets should now be at a consistently high quality and there should not be pop in/out in towns. This may be a little bit more expensive in some areas of the game. - Resolved vanilla game issue with NPCs causing frame drops, stuttering, and high VRAM usage - Improved performance and stuttering across the board - Provided a method in the configuration to improve reflections at the cost of VRAM - Fixed clouds and fog noise
If you have specific issues please ask for help in discord. I will typically respond very quickly there.
If you are having performance issues please try clearing shaders and then letting them build in game. This will result in building shaders for a couple minutes but it should be fine after that.
On my side, render thread stall after a short amount of time. Tried several settings with no avail.

A shame it's not worky tho. Motion Blur is amazing with this mod. Great work on this.
But let's be honest : the mod is totally overkill. I think you fail to realize how powerfull 4090 is (especially if you play with framegen), and went for extremly demanding settings that won't fit with older GPU at all. Even with lowest modsettings. I usually run the game over 100fps despite already quite heavy LOD and lumen reflection tweaks, but your mod run crazy bad. (And from what i could see you could not tackle the issues with reflections when scoping towards a refraction, or the translucent square glass, wich would likely require editing materials)
Manual install lead to major performance issues wich get fixed by using UMM. However, sadly, it didn't fixed the crash over time (i followed troubleshooting guide).
Would love a separate mod for motionblur only without all the crazy stuff for reflections and GI.
For only improved lumen lighting, are there any commands I can insert into the engine.ini file? Ie. more natural foliage and less flat lighting overall, and if possible longer lighting draw distance.
I've already fixed the vegetation pop-in via engine.ini.
Thanks for the mod! Is there any way to get rid of UE4SS? I'm using the flashlight customizer and honestly I could not play without it anymore, vanilla flashlight is just awful
However, it begs the question why the developers at GSC aren’t able to figure this out by themselves, and put similar improvements and optimizations into a patch. The lighting especially is a bit flat in STALKER 2, esp. making the vegetation look “rough/grainy”.
I'm seeing a very significant performance degradation with this mod, based on the description it seems like the performance hit should be fairly minimal, so I'm not sure if my experience is normal or if there is some issue.
I have a 3090 + 12700k, running the game with DLSS Quality and FG on (FPS statements are AFTER framegen.) With S.2 optimizer and my custom engine.ini - I run a mix of mostly Epic and high settings, usually around 100-130fps depending on my in-game location. With those other mods removed and using Ultra Plus - I reduce in-game settings slightly, and run very modest U+ settings in UMM and get 65-95fps. (Vanilla performance with no optimizers/engine ini is about 90-120fps.) It also seems like I don't see any significant gains by tweaking in-game settings or UMM settings with U+ enabled. While the game certainly looks better with U+, this seems like a very steep fps hit, as it seems like this mod was aimed at keeping near-vanilla performance. Is this normal/expected?
Since the resolution of lighting and reflections have much better quality in U+, it’s expected to impact fps. Epic settings are much more demanding, so the fps difference between high and epic will likely be significant. Try lowering them to high (or even lower?), then increasing some of the settings until you get the fps/quality you’re happy with. If that doesn’t help, join the discord channel, afaik developer doesn't read comments here.
I noticed that when I updated my version with the Ultra Plus Mod Manager it removed the optional framegen pak I installed separately. The game will still let you enable it but it won't actually do anything. I couldn't figure out why I was all the sudden barely cracking 60 FPS with all the same settings. Turns out that's the best I can do with native rendering
Yeah, that annoyed me too. It’s been fixed in the latest version of the mod manager. Before that, I just renamed the FSR .pak to start with '1' instead of '~'
hey sammilucia, I have some questions perhaps you could answer.
Inoticed only 2 options have a big impact on performance, LightingMode on advanced and Denoiser with RR, first gives me ~-8 fps and the RR denoiser ~-12 fps etc. Which is not too bad but why RR is so heavy ? can it be improved/optimized further ?
Also, advanced makes areas quite dark mixed with shadows, even though there is some evening light coming out through clouds. Can it be adjusted to find a middle ground between the two options ?
SceneBrightness=bright helps with darker image at night caused by LightingMode as you mentioned. However, I notice this adds greyish accents to distant view, not sure if that's intesified fog or simply solution for too dark spots, it helps but lower options I believe look better.
FixSkylightInReflections=on_brighter I still find that water pudles look a little too dim, can it be increased with some line in engine.ini ?
Is it possible to make higher tree shadows resolution that is cast on buildings for example ? They are quite blocky originally.
To add to the last bit, is it possible to increase those tree shadows update rate ? Trees moves faster than the shadow is being updated.
