hai 👋🏼 soft here, please be aware this mod is only compatible up to version 1.5 as I've been unable to work on it!
I know I don't owe anyone an explanation, but I would still like to speak up a little— the mod has gotten quite a bit of love over time and I believe the least I can do is explain where I've been ^^;
I released this mod back in 2021, when the pandemic was starting to properly calm down, and when I was still a student. I had quite a bit of time in my hands which lead me to dwell into modding. it's been 3 years already, and of course, things have changed. I've graduated from university and now work 8h-17h. I'm also chronic ill and disabled, so I don't really have energy for much once I'm back from work. my energy levels have been improving in the past few months, but they are not quite there yet
I've spoken a teensy bit with SeaSea50 about releasing a 1.6 patch, so look foward to their update! if anyone else is also interested in messing around with my files, I don't mind at all! just make sure to credit Identitypollution for the coloring inpiration, as it was their sprites that inspired me
if you wanna credit me for the coding or the recolored sprites, go ahead! if you don't... let's be honest, I probably won't ever know unless someone else tells me lkklkjsf I made this for fun, and because I like galaxies and space! all I care about is to give credit where is due and to spread the love for shinny chickens
For anybody wondering, I'm pretty sure this one is incompatible with Better Artisan Goods, as they both try to recolor the void egg and void mayonnaise. To get around this, you can rename the files "recolor_egg" and "recolor_mayo" in the Void Chick\assets folder to "voidegg" and "voidmayonnaise" respectively, then drag them into the Better Artisan Goods\assets folder to replace the files in there.
Not sure if it conflicts with Adopt 'n' Skin, but if you wanted to make it compatible (say, to have multiple void chicken skins), you would rename "baby_void" and "recolor_void" in the Void Chick\assets folder to "BabyVoidChicken_1" and "VoidChicken_1" respectively, then move them to the AdoptSkin\assets\skins\VoidChicken folder(make the folder yourself if it's not there). If you have skins in there already, you can change that number at the end of the filename to one that's not already in use, it doesn't change anything
I should note that these are just snatching the assets and relocating them to other mods. If you do both, the rest of the files that come with this mod can just be deleted, as the other mods will already be doing the job for it.
(And a quick apology to softfragile for downloading your mod and then immediately scrapping it for parts. Your assets are very pretty and I very much wanted to use them haha)
it's been a while but no need to apologize! I'm honestly quite honored to know you like the chicks so much to want to use them even with your other mods!
I will check the compatibility between the mods you mentioned and add a warning in case they aren't compatible with my chickens (thought I'm assuming they aren't if they replace the same asset)
will you pretty pretty please make these optional for use with alternative textures? i soooo badly want to use them but i dont want to abandon my other animal's looks!
What alternative textures are you using? If it's Adopt 'n' Skin, I just made a comment explaining how to manually make it compatible (by just snatching the assets from the mod, basically). If it's something else, I'd be willing to help you figure something out! (^-^)
Hello! I've played with this mod installed for a few minutes now to test it and my feedback is this: I love it! You're right, a void chicken really should be a space chicken. Thank you!
Now here's my ~~personal flavour~~ feedback that you can ignore freely: For the adult chicken, sprite #17 - #20 as well as sprite #23 & #24, I noticed you've decided to not add "stars" on their faces -- maybe because the "stars" need their sleep, too! -- for some(me) the change between stars and no stars might feel abrupt, but also I am in love with these starry chickens and would love for you add some glitter to the resting sprites!
Adult chicken sprite #17 & #18 are also the only sprites where a pixel "bounces" around, ie. a pixel disappears and reappears each frame of the animation in-game -- this is awesome if it's meant to conjure up a feeling of "twinkling stars", but you can also play around with increasing and decreasing the brightness of a pixel in each frame to achieve something similar without the pixel "popping up outta nowhere".
IN CONCLUSION............................. i love this, i love you, and i love the starry girls, great job!~~
I'm really glad you liked it! and honestly you are right, the change is quite abrupt— just noticed it now really ^^; I don't spend too much time with my chickens so for me it was okay, but!— I will be sure to retouch them! I like your idea for the brightness and I may use it (if I remember— hopefully I won't forget)
