HD Portraits is currently being updated to stardew 1.6, and there will be no more development for 1.5. The new version will include several new features, and improved documentation-
New, easier-to-use pack format
Simpler, more flexible animation format
The ability to reorder, enable, and disable packs
Old-format packs will continue to be supported for backwards compatibility, but it is recommended to use the new format after 1.6. Additonally, example packs will be included in the optional files.
Thank you all for your patience and support. I know you are all eager for this mod to return. The update is nearly complete- all that's left is testing everything to make sure it works, and fixing any remaining bugs that might pop up. Things have gotten worse again IRL, and I'm trying to sort that out. I realize that you've been waiting for a whole 3 months at this point, and for that, I am, genuinely, sorry.
However, I am also the only person so far who has actually put any work into this, which means that the update will have to come when I can give it. At the moment, pretty much my whole life is on hold. I'm not on vacation, I'm not having fun at the club, I'm not chilling playing stardew, I'm just trying to get through this at whatever pace I can.
For those of you who have been patient; seriously, thank you. Thank you so much. You have no idea how much I appreciate that.
After many days, I opened Stardew Valley again, planning to update the mods and start playing. It's a pity to see that you are no longer updating this mod. Since the first time I started using the beautification mod, I have been using the mod developed by you. However, I fully understand your feelings and would like to express my gratitude to you and other authors who develop mods for Stardew Valley.
The fact you're doing this for free is BEYOND anything we deserve, and on the behalf of everyone in the modding stardew valley community (both parties, those that makes the mods, and those whom enjoy them), THANK YOU!
Whilst I am unable to play modded Stardew Valley without your mod, it has allowed me to focus on other video games I love, like Elden Ring and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth!
THANK YOU AGAIN, and please, take care of yourself!
If i had to guess id say, with no disrespect, that they abandoned the project, or something happened to them. i mean its been sooooooooo long. IDK how hard getting a portrait mod to work would be but id guess its not the hardest thing if i had to, tho ive never coded in my life. its just been so, hard not to think its never going to be done.
From what I have seen they are actively working on their other mods and portraiture has become pretty popular, and the github page for HD portraits seems to be deleted so it is completely possible this has been abandoned
Leaving this here for the people that have been praying for this mod to get updated for forever. Here's to hoping Swyrl is fine and well while we use this substitute and wait for an update still.
There's a workaround for Portraiture, called Portraiture Plus It allows for the use of higher quality portraits, including seasonal and location based portraits.
Install Portraiture Plus like normal, alongside Portraiture, and insert your Portraits/ PNGs into the Portraiture Mods folder.
The only tedious part is having to change the file names for it to work. Beach -> IslandSouth Pierre's -> SeedShop Joja -> JojaMart
All other location names (vanilla) can be found on the Stardew Wiki
Any prospect for update..? I just installed a bunch of mods that break just because this one isn't updated, when all mods depending on it are supposed to be compatible with 1.6, it creates issues with SVE patches apparently.

I've been using talkohlooey's seasonal portraits and seasonal SVE portraits just fine with this now.
Only vendors aren't working atm afaik.
