F.A.Q. Q: Can you remove the messages/stop the screen from fading to black/merge all the messages into one/etc.
Short Answer: You can turn messages off with the config, which will leave just a fade-to-black (for each message), and the optimization config option will merge some of the messages together. Optimization will be expanded over time. Other than that, no.
Long Answer: The way the mod functions is that every time you reach a threshold, the mod plays an event, which adds the bonus friendship points. This is a very tedious and ineffective way to make this system work, but it is the method that aligns with my level of knowledge. Doing it a different way would mean redoing the mod from the ground up, which I would actually be willing to do. The problem is that I just still don't know how. I've looked into it, I've tried to come up with other solutions, I know other solutions are out there, I just don't know how. I know this isn't a particularly satisfying answer, for myself included. Trust me, no one wants to get rid of those fade-to-blacks as much as me.
Q: Can you add X npc/add compatibility with X mod? A: Check the list below. If you don't see the mod there, read the post for best practices when making requests. Your request is MUCH more likely to be fulfilled if you do.
Q: Is this compatible with 1.6? A: As far as I can tell from testing, yes, but I haven't played through 1.6 myself yet. If you have any issues, please let me know and preferably include a log.
So, for those who have modded NPC suggestions, I'm going to sticky this post and keep it updated with planned additions. If you'd like to request support for a particular NPC, first ensure they are not on this list. If they are on this list, and you want to help, please send me a list of that NPCs friends and family, and how you know who their friends and family are, either in a comment or a private message. You don't have to do this to request support, but it greatly increases the chances of it happening
High Priority - Anything that becomes high priority is something I'm likely working on right now, will be out in a day or two, and I might as well just finish and get it out instead of adding it to this list.

If you think I'm incorrect, please let me know, but keep in mind, I only account for obvious connections. Connections which are simply likely or could be inferred are ignored)
Spoiler:

No Support Planned (I am aware of these NPCs but have no plans to implement them. Reasons for this will vary. Please keep in mind, a lack of support simply means they will not receive or award friendship bonuses, and can still be used alongside my mod freely)
Spoiler:

In addition, mods which are currently not officially released are of questionable priority. It's not that I don't want to add them, in fact I have added support for a few already, I'm just wary of doing so.
Event '1301090' has command 'friendship Ram 25' which couldn't be parsed: no NPC found with name 'Ram'.
about configuration: How do I stop getting alert about NPC that no longer exist?
Event '1301090' has command 'textAboveHead Some villagers have noticed your budding friendship with Leah!' which couldn't be parsed: required index 2 (string text) not found (list has indexes 0 through 1).
about a bug: I know I have Leah present in game yet this says it could not find Leah, how can I prevent this issue from repeating?
Would you consider adding the features of the mod Social Network? It's very similar to this except that you gain a small boost (configurable) whenever you talk to an NPC for the first time in a day with their friends and family. You get a larger boost with friends and family if you remember a birthday. I typically had my gain set to 5 relationship points, which worked out well since I play so slowly and try to RP my character.
The Social Networks mods author hasn't been online since 2021, and I doubt it will get a 1.6 update. Building relationships is extremely slow for me without it.
For this mod, no, but I'm on and off working on a successor mod to this one, and if I can get that up and running, that's exactly the sort of thing I'd consider adding. For now, you could also consider trying Part of the Community if you aren't using it already. It looks like that's been updated to 1.6.
'To partially avoid this, you can turn messages off in the config. The screen will fade to black repeatedly as it goes through the bonuses, but you won't have to click through each message. There is an experimental config option (Optimization) which should reduce this somewhat'
Does not adequately warn of the game being softlocked fading in and out for over 30 minutes, with no indication of progress or when it will end. the warning did not really describe what I'd be in for. Something to keep in mind. Happy sailing.
I found an issue while using Friend of a Friend. I checked by enabling and disabling mods in Stardrop to make sure. Here is the log https://smapi.io/log/8e5ed90ffe3d43bd8be97fd676b39e79I had the same issue with Experimental Friend of a Friend- same errors, but as I understand they are about modded NPC's I don't play with, so also below is described what I see:
(red errors appear in the morning then I go to buy meself a pail for milking) I enter Marnie's, triggernig Shane's 7 heart event part 1, then automatically it triggers 8 heart event, after which my farmer is invisible and camera is moved above entrance so I see rest of the house but the entrance. Zooming out does not help. I can interact with inventory, thus warping myself out and the game reasumes as usual.
I wonder if it is just freak bug specific to me...I had been looking at SDV discord and found the warping solution but it was for different mods, mostly few years back.
If it's impossible to replicate/find the root of the issue, I can still warp myself out, so there is a workaround at least
Yes, the errors are a new thing with 1.6, but aside from cluttering your log, they don't seem to be an issue. Bonuses are still awarded as normal.
As for you getting locked after Shane's 8 heart event, FoaF isn't doing anything at the time that happens, and shouldn't have any effect. If you're only having this issue with FoaF installed, then that is very bizarre. I would suggest you try disabling everything except for CP and FoaF. If it's still happening, send another log and I'll take a look.
UPDATE: As for my original problem, it seems to be connected not only with elusive incompatibility, but also with two events playing in a row. One event with a full modlist is fine. Two events with just FoaF are fine. Still looking into which mod/s doesn't want to play nice... ___________________ Thank you for your fast reply! I played a few more days with the whole mod list and had similar issue after anonther event at the Community map.
And then I dug out the backup save file and did as you suggested. It worked fine!
So... it is probably a mod incompatibility somewhere. When I did my disabling experiment earlier I just disabled the mods that I thought might influence the issue. So by just disabling FoaF I got rid of incompatbility somewhere.
If you are interested I can keep you posted if I find that incompatibility, but it might take some time...
Well, thank you once again, and also thank you for the mod! I really appriciate all the work you put into this!
Just want to give some love to the creator - I see you are struggling with how to make the mod more efficient/player-friendly without fade-outs. I hope you figure it out! So far I am using it without complaints, it makes my experience a lot more enjoyable! Thanks for making this :D I can't imagine my game without it anymore :P Happy modding!
I have been stuck receiving spams of "some villagers have noticed your friendship with (name of villager) and I've been stuck in this loop for 30 minutes browsing each villagers (Kent, Abigail, Sam etc.... is it possible to shorten some of these notifications?
Maybe instead of saying each level of friendship (close bond, budding friendship, growing friendship, blossoming friendship, blooming friendship, just say the last one you reached instead
Turning on optimizations and turning off messages in the config should help. 30 minutes seems awfully long though. Do you have a large number of modded npcs installed? And with regard to your suggestion, the optimizations feature does something similar, where it skips the first three stages if you have the fourth (though only for certain npcs). In theory, I might be able to improve it thanks to some recent developments, but it'll take time and I'm taking a bit of a break at the moment.
Hope you enjoyed your break :) I installed your mod again (along with many expansion mod like rsv, es, sve) and had a temporary solution to restrict to 4 event per day per location (so I would at most get 4 even about friendship level information once I leave the farm)
But today i forgot to enable that mod and was stuck with a lot of events about friendship levels.
I think optimization setting to true wouldn't help since i reached above 4 heart with characters from rsv, sve and es. I wanted to share some solution to prevent this situation from occuring again if you were up to the task.
Removing the morning prompt, as commented before. Compile the message into one. for example "some villagers have noticed your friendship with Flor, Yri, Gus etc.. Compile the message into levels: for example "some villagers have noticed your blooming friendship with Flor, Yri, Gus etc.." and the next window is "some villagers have noticed your blossoming friendship with Flor, Yri, Gus etc.."
Side feature request: add information on what resentment is on the config menu, like some sort of window appearing when I hover.
P.S. i was about to make a bug report about the Spam of event about the change in friendship but accidentally left the page and came back with the text erased
Unfortunately, while I would love to compile the messages, the reason I haven't done so is a technical one. Unless something has changed with 1.6 (which it might have, I haven't dug into it yet), I would need to rebuild the mod from scratch to make this happen. I have made a few attempts at this over the last year or so, but I don't have the requisite knowledge to pull it off right now.
As for your side feature request, I... honestly thought it already did that. I'll take a look at it later.
I'm so sorry for putting additional work on you. I wouldn't have done his had I noticed the date of your last update.
I just randomly continued my old save with all my mods and was surprised at the messages. I was too focused on finding the target of the issue and overlooked the mod last update
Oh, that's no problem. I don't mind making the occasional update. As I said, resolving the messages would be difficult, but I went ahead and released a new version with better config descriptions. Thanks for pointing that out. :)
hi, great job on the mod. I am wondering if the fading screen effect can be disabled when the messages are disabled so my screen doesn't flash multiple times. I appreciate that the messages now longer show up so it speeds things up but the screen still does the fade to black multiple times before I can start my day. I apologize for asking for more work to be done, I appreciate the work you have done so far!
Thanks for the question and to the author for answering what many were wondering. I suggested adding the tag "compatible with 1.6" to the mod in case others were wondering

Still downloading, just *not* going to add it to any saves that have gone past Spring Year 1. I can learn from others’ mistakes.
If you ever make very hard difficulty with no/barely any bonuses, I would love that for long time saves
