Hi, I have a question. We're playing a multipayer game and one of the nonhost players is married to the wizard. His second baby, the girl, he wants to be dark skinned but when I change the code to "True" the game crashes. The child is under "Child_Adopted": "False", Child_Darkskin": "False", and as soon as I change dark skin to True it will crash the game without fail. Spouse married is also under True and it has the name and its sprites are under "wizard". Am I doing something wrong? Oh, I should mention the child was adopted at first, we changed it to not adopted because the hair was cooler. Is that the problem? Thanks so much we love this mod btw!
Well it would seem I either typoed the double quotes or the game got scared when my partner did the exact same thing, as it is no longer crashing lol. Thanks so much for the prompt response! If it crashes again, I'll check in. I would swear I didn't typo, but who can really say lol
Hello :) Just open the children.json file in the tool. So it only works if you have children in the game. Play around with the settings (e.g., skin color, gender, etc., or simply the "Child_Sprites" setting).
Well, the tool is very simple; it only changes the settings in children.json. With the tool, you can only select one sprite folder (those in assets/Adopted and assets/Natural) for your child. However, you can't individually select the hair and clothing.
But you can do it manually: If you want to customize your child, copy an existing folder (assets/Adopted and assets/Natural) and rename the folder, for example, "MyChild01" You can now edit all the .png files in it as you wish (using a graphics program, such as the free tool "Gimp").
Then open the tool, load your children.json, and select "MyChild01" from the "Child_Sprites" list, and save the children.json file.
Note: If you play in co-op, all players must have the same folder (in this example "MyChild01")
Hi, i love this pack there's so much variation but is there anywhere we can see previews of the different complete sprites? there's so dang many and the file explorer views aren't the greatest lol
Hello :) 2 years ago I made a simple tool for myself, but never published it because I didn't know that anyone would be interested in it. I've uploaded it; you can find it under Files/Miscellaneous files. Hope it's useful for you too :)
Hello :) Adopted children with Sophia have green hair. If you want to have the child as your biological child, open the children.json file, search for your child's name and change the entry to: "Child_Adopted": "False",
Hi:) yes, baby-sprites are included. But only for marriageable spouses. Clint is unfortunately unable to be dated or married in the game.
See the available spouses in the folders: Mods\UniqueChildren\assets\Adopted\ and Mods\UniqueChildren\assets\Natural\
If you want to change your child's sprites, open children.json and change the folder name: "Child_Sprites": "Shane",
If you want sprites for Clint, copy any folder into Mods\UniqueChildren\assets\Adopted\ and Mods\UniqueChildren\assets\Natural\ and rename it "Clint." You can then edit the PNG files there or mix/copy them from other folders. Then write in children.json: "Child_Sprites": "Clint",
Hi, you have probably been asked this question loads of times but i just thought it'd be best to ask you directly I married and had a child with a custom NPC mod named Katrielle the Glitch and i want to create a child sprite for them but i am a bit lost and confused as to how i make the child look similiar to her considering she has a different hairstyle and all so could you kindly advise me on how to go about it in a simple manner
Hi :) you can copy an existing folder in Mods/UniqueChildren/assets/Adopted & Mods/UniqueChildren/assets/Natural, rename the folder to "Katrielle", and edit the sprites (.png files) as you wish with a graphics program (Gimp for example). Then open Mods/UniqueChildren/children.json and change the folder name for the sprites of your child: "Child_Sprites": "Katrielle",
(In a .json file, always pay attention to the parentheses and commas; this is very important; otherwise, the game won't be able to read the file correctly)
That would go into too much detail. I recommend YouTube tutorials :)
If you've never used a graphics program before, I recommend downloading GIMP (it's free). Once installed, you can open the child sprite .png file just like a normal image.
Zoom in (use + or the zoom tool), and then use the Pencil Tool (not the paintbrush — pencil is better for pixel art) to change small parts, like the hair color or shape, to look more like Katrielle. Just be careful not to change the size of the image or move things around too much — the game needs the layout to stay the same.
Really wish this was compatible with LittleNPCs because these are the best children sprites on the workshop. I would try to do some sprite swapping myself, but I feel like I would mess it up. D:
Hello, yes, unfortunately it's not compatible because LittleNPCs converts children into NPCs. Thanks for the compliment. I tried to keep the original Stardew Valley style because I really like it and it's different from the usual anime style. Unfortunately, I don't know how to replace the sprites. If there are other mods, you might be able to swap them out, but each one has its own format (I did the hair, eyes, clothes, and body separately).
Hello, I really love this mod. My kids look like the wizard, but they have reverted to the default, unless it's a cut scene or event. I was wondering what the problem could be. They still wander and speak; they just look like the default.

Make sure the "True" is between quotes.
If you're sure you've done everything correctly in the JSON and it still crashes, please show your log after the crash:
