    4/2024 THIS MOD IS 1.6 COMPATIBLE

    PSA: Modded characters with Beach sprite sheets and portraits that are present during the Luau can be manually added to this mod to accomplish the same result.

    1. Delete the last two rows ( the bottom two brackets, } & ] ) of this mod's"content.json" file and tack this onto the end:
          {
             "Action": "EditImage",
             "Target": "Portraits/[CHARACTER]",
             "FromFile": "assets/Portraits/[CHARACTER]_Beach.png",
             "Update": "OnLocationChange",
             "When": { "DayEvent": "luau",
             "LocationName": "Temp" }
          },
          {
             "Action": "EditImage",
             "Target": "Characters/[CHARACTER]",
             "FromFile": "assets/Sprites/[CHARACTER]_Beach.png",
             "Update": "OnLocationChange",
             "When": { "DayEvent": "luau",
             "LocationName": "Temp" }
          },
       ]
    }

    2. Replace "[CHARACTER]" with the name of the character you want to add as they are referred to in their mod's files. Double check everything is formatted correctly and save your changes.

    3. Locate the character's beach portrait and sprite sheet from the mod they come from. They should both be labeled [CHARACTER]_Beach.png.

    - If the files you want to use aren't labeled "[CHARACTER]_Beach.png" and you don't want to rename them when you copy them over for whatever reason, you can change the file name in the "FromFile" line to match the name of the files you're using, instead.

    For example, if you wanted to use Victor's Luau portraits from Seasonal Outfits For SVE (Vanilla Style):
             "FromFile": "assets/Portraits/Victor_Luau.png",
    4. Copy and paste the located portrait file into this mod's "Portraits" folder, located within the "assets" folder. Do the same for the sprite sheet file, but put it in this mod's "Sprites" folder instead.

    - You can create subfolders in this mod's "Portraits" and "Sprites" folders to keep different mod's character files separate, but you'll need to edit the file path in the "FromFile" line accordingly.

    For example, if you wanted to put the bazillion Ridgeside Village characters' sprite sheets in their own folder:
             "FromFile": "assets/Sprites/RSV/[CHARACTER]_Beach.png",

    - If you're using a mod that changes the beach portraits and sprite sheets for vanilla characters, you don't need to edit what's already there in this mod's "content.json" file, but you will need to overwrite the portraits and sprite sheets that come with this mod.

    ----------

    Compatibility issues (Luau only, obviously):

    Seasonal Outfits - Slightly Cuter Aesthetic:

    - Robin's beach outfit has no dancing sprites. No solution unless you want to create your own.
    - Marnie's beach outfit has no pot stirring sprites. You can use the sprite sheet provided in this mod, but her arm will be thinner than the other characters'.
    - Lewis' and Demetrius' portraits don't change. You can fix this the same way you'd add a modded character, as explained above. Just skip the Sprites parts since having them twice is pointless.
    - Emily turns invisible for a frame and into a white box for two frames while dancing. You can fix this pretty easily and quickly in GIMP. Just erase the white box in the corner, copy/paste the second sprite of the second to last row into the empty spot at the end of that row, and copy/paste the two sprites in the last row into the two empty spots next to them in the same order. Export as a .png and you're good to go. Update 11/1/23: Now that I've finished the sprite sheets for RSV, I'll look into handing Emily's sprite sheet over to Poltergeist. Update 4/13/24: Luau outfits for Marriage Candidates were added to that mod. Use those instead.

    Stardew Valley Expanded:

    - Sofia's dialogue uses a facial expression not available in her beach portraits. Use the base portraits listed as an optional file in Seasonal Outfits For SVE (Vanilla Style) and paste the clothing part of her beach portraits on top of them.

    Seasonal Outfits: Slightly Cuter Aesthetic for SVE:

    - See above.

    Ridgeside Village:

    (4/13/24) INFO (minus June) MAY BE OUT OF DATE. I did this over a year ago and haven't played with RSV in about as long.

    - The following characters' beach sprite sheets and portraits do not contain an outfit that differs from their usual one:
      Ezekiel
      Jio (There are shirtless Beach Portraits in the files. An endeavoring individual could create sprites for them if they
             were so inclined, however currently I am not one such person.)
      Kiwi
    (Redundant, don't use the mod for them.)

    - The following characters use sprites from their normal sprite sheets that their beach ones don't have:
      Bert
      Corine (Reverts to her normal sprite sheet, but only for sprites her beach one doesn't have.)
      Faye
      Ian (His beach sprite sheet does literally nothing. Probably the same for everyone without a note.)
      Jeric (Faces south when he'd normally be dancing but does not revert sprites. Probably fine to use.)
      June (I have not played with RSV since prior to his addition, but from looking through the files I'm fairly certain
                 (this is correct) he has dancing sprites for the Luau that his Beach sprites do not.)

      Kimpoi
      Lorenzo
      Malaya
      Olga
      Shanice
      Trinnie
    (Mostly incompatible unless you edit a copy of their normal sprite sheets to look like their beach outfits. Not particularly difficult if you use their beach sprites as a guide, but it'd be extremely time consuming. Basically Robin x12.) Update 11/1/22: Did the sprite work and it's all working properly. Not sure if I'm allowed to upload the sprite sheets anywhere, but I'll look into it. If It's not linked here it means I was out of luck. Update 4/13/24: Have not worked on June. Finished June's sprite.

    - The following characters suffer from both of the aforementioned issues:
      Aguar
      Freddie
      Lola
    (You could just use their normal sprite sheets, but again, redundant. Just don't use the mod for them.)

    I have not tested any of the RSV characters for portrait incompatibilities and don't plan to, though they generally don't seem to have any facial expressions not present in their beach portraits that would be used outside of events/scenes/whatever, so there probably won't be any issues there. Any other characters that RSV has beach files for do not suffer from any of the listed problems and adding them to this mod, as explained above, for its intended purpose with the Luau should work fine.

      Great, can you release your version of this with all that?

      I want to upload everything at once, but there's A LOT of artists credited for the Slightly Cuter Seasonal Outfit mods and, despite the seemingly thorough list of credits, it's neither clear which of them specifically I need to ask for permission nor how to even contact them all in the first place (for example, no one is credited for the spritework in Seasonal Cute Characters for East Scarp. Do I just ask the mod author? The authors of the mods it's modding? The reflection of my deepest desires staring back at me from The Dark Abyss™?).

      I've debated just doing it anyways, forgiveness instead of permission and all that, but that's too many bad sides to risk getting onto for my tastes. I honestly just gave up trying to figure it out.

      I'll try again, and if I can figure out who and how to ask and they agree to it, then I will, but I'm not about to make any promises. None of this is any clearer than it was before.

    would this work with the diverse Stardew mod or any other mod that changes character portraits/sprites? or do you have it set up so it just uses whichever portraits/sprites are used even with mods?

      Nope, sorry, it just loads modified copies of their vanilla sprites and their portraits. Had to in order for characters to not be glitched or invisible during the Luau, like Emily, Robin, and Demetrius.

    Will the config.json the mod produces the first time the mod is run allow the player to toggle who is and isn't in their swimgear?

      This mod doesn't produce a config.json

    Does this use their beach portraits as well or just the sprites?

      It does use their beach portraits as well, yes.
