maybe this Va'ruun Vypera Spacesuit - Replacer would help to inspire you for an upgrade. Its his optional file, so downloading and experimenting with could lead to great results - am sure. maybe a collaboration?
It's actually working @ZY20042.. to some extend, as it also - and obviously - is breaking space suits, helmets, apparels and whole bodies.
if this mod could somehow have a "dynamic shielding" (that fits itself onto every space suit, helmet and apparel without breaking them) then this mod would honestly be up to something. just saying.
btw, i figured, that 'outfit head-shield' and 'outfit body-shield' do sometimes not go together / along as either it is one or the other. don't know..
You are using the mod outside of its intended scope. Mod authors assign the armour slots differently, and it's impossible to accommodate all of them. If you know what you're doing, you can reassign the biped slots of the modded spacesuits/apparel. The biped slots of my mod cannot be changed without breaking its intended purpose because that's what the vanilla armour plates use.
Not hating or anything but of all the logic issues Starfield has, I feel the lack of body shields makes the most sense. The shields on ships require massive reactors and don't even provide max protection unless you input enough power to it. Granted you are protected a whole lot less for a human but regardless you'd need some way to keep it powered. I would argue the suits aren't bullet proof but bullet resistant like all body armor is in real life. Still it's a cool and fun idea for a mod.
The problem with the spacesuits is that some tiny holes in it in unpleasant environments would cause a lot of addtional problems (like exploding by decompression or suffocating by air loss), but at least render the suit unusable for it's actual purpose. The people would also be quite reluctant to fight personally in such surroundings (drones and fighting robots seem to be a seldom affair in the 24th century).
An energy shield could help. It would be cool (or not?) if the shield generator had to be fed with batteries, if after depletion of the shield holes could be put into suits, with appropriate unpleasant results, and if fighters would not use precious spacesuits but other armor for combat in habitable areas.
Yah I agree, a battery system would make it more immersive. I personally play with high damage numbers anyway and I get why Bethesda didn't go full realism when fighting with space suits. Especially since you'd really only encounter the fighting in vacuum issue when on desolate, atmosphereless planets.
Yeah, calling this lore friendly is kinda bollocks. The shields themselves are also very much contradicting game lore because they don't exist in this formed matter. Hell, the Vigilance even is the first ship where they talk about prototype shielding that is powered in a directional way, rather than encompassing the whole ship evenly - and even that is still far away from the very sci-fi aspects of this mod.
No shade on the mod itself, you use & make what you want, but don't call it lore friendly please. The game's tech level just isn't that futuristically advanced.
if, hundreds of years in the future, there are personal nuclear fusion devices then there would be plenty of energy, however there would still be the problem of: greater energy use would produce greater heat.
It would be neat if the shield was fully surrounding your character (Sort of like Halo). Maybe also so it only becomes visible when you are hit, sort of like the energy is actively reacting to the force of the hit.
I couldn't make a good-looking full-body shield. The character ends up like a human glow stick, similar to the Sense Star Stuff effects. It worked in Halo because it fits the high-tech suits and world settings, but not so much in the grounded aesthetics of Starfield.
It would be great to limit the full-body effect only during bullet hits. The shield-hit effect is already used in-game for ships. Theoretically, I need to swap the blood squirts for the shield effects; I'll need to find some motivation to reverse-engineer that.
That would be awesome! Perhaps a simpler way could be a script to play an animation to make the energy armour to play a “flash” (fade in-fade out) animation on damage taken from enemy? - It wouldn’t look as good as the locational shield “flash” like on ships but it would be similar in effect.
The Material Editor is versatile and powerful and seems underutilized among modders. The shield assets are modified material files of the Starborn Powers. I hope Bethesda fixes the bug limiting the number of mods/formIDs. I have some ambitious mod ideas, but there's no point putting them out now if they break the game.

Changelogs for Version 1.0.1:
An optional file was added to make the UC Pilot Helmets compatible with Visor 2.
Troubleshooting:
- An easy way to check whether the mod has been installed correctly is to open the console and type help ZY7
- If the search came out empty, you'll need to reinstall the mod.
another one is his one> Mechanized Assault Suit and Helmet as it would fit / lore and technology wise.
*begs & prays in silence*

Do I understand correctly, that it changes the UC Marine Spacesuits? Or does it only take and re-use the meshes from the UC Marine Spacesuits?
If it actually changes the UC Marine Spacesuits, would it be possible to make them standalone without changing base game assets?
My goodness. Amazing.
