Thanks! I made this a sticky post. Your settings are indeed even more potato-friendly. Less Decals and practically no shadows are key things here i think.
Everyone! If the main file doesn't do well enough, use the optional file as well - its Low.ini contains these settings.
Also i use Instant Potato Mode (it increases fps just for a few points, BUT in drastically increase vision to everything around, especially during the night and in dark caves) and Vibrant Scanner to make all non scanned targets marked with red glow.
I think these two are must have mods for ultra potato Starfield explorers. You can add them to the "Additional files required" list on downloading page.
I have a 4060 ti but my cpu cannot hanlde 60+ fps in new atlantis with some annoyingly low fps with frame gen and traversal stutters, in planets it's smooth as butter though. Hope we can get an ultra performance mod for people with older CPUs but modern GPUs.
I downloaded just to endorse. It's always amazing to see how much people can tweak settings to go even more potato. I salute all of you potato players patience and will to play.
Objectively, the game is on the level of 1050 in terms of graphics and should run on it at Ultra. However, the criminal tendency in modern gaming to release unoptimized SH*T only to make you to buy a new hardware is another topic...
Yep, definitely. But on the release version even this wouldn't be possible. So they have already done a lot to make the game less demanding, and with each patch it becomes more pc-friendly bit by bit.
Yeah, the key aspect i changed myself for this guide/modlist was shadow resolution - it in conjuction with all those tweaks and plugins by others allow for admirable FPS gameplay. This is something that BGS themselves could decide to do to lower the entry-level system requirements but they didn't.
funny thats what i used to run wish this mod was done sooner LOL. i broke down and gota new laptop predator helios 300. core i7 12700, 32gb ddr5, RTX3060 and dual gaming ssds. i can now run any game at ultra this laptop is a beast lol. grabbed it used for 1200 months ago never looked back lol. but this mods cool for those older laptops i know i would of used it back when lol
With these settings the game is somewhat comfortably playable even on potatoes but one of the few good parts of the game - the artistic design - is for the most part no longer there. So you will have infinitely better experience playing it on a modern setup.

And btw, you can boost your old GPU a bit with using "MSI Afterburner", works well even with my ancient GT 1030.
As for MSI Afterburner, my laptop starts buzzing if use that program.
... or maybe an Amiga?
** but seriously ... awesome opening up the game to more configurations.
