So I have found this only works for items in the game world. It does not work on items in containers as I think the containers themselves are marked as stealing. Do you know how to fix/change this?
you could try opening the console and select the container, then enter:setownership or you could disable detection by ai using the tdetect command, then drop all your stolen items and pick them up again, which removes the stolen status. this method will be easier if you can sort your inventory by 'stolen' using a mod like StarUI inventory. and of course, you may want to use a hotkey mod if you frequently use console commands. any other fix or workaround on my end isn't possible right now, as i have uni exams soon.
Yes, add this line to StarfieldCustom.ini, under [General] sStartingConsole Command=bat stealanything Remove the space between Console and Command, I had to add that to stop the line from being replaced with javascript-event-stripped
It was in the mod request in the starfield community forum. No one replied to my post :( , but you saved me. I like to grab everything I see, and sometimes even when I'm hidden, I still get caughted :( , but this mod will help I think. Haven't tried it yet, but I will tomorrow.

Only special items should be protected.
sStartingConsole Command=bat stealanything
Remove the space between Console and Command, I had to add that to stop the line from being replaced with javascript-event-strippedduring gameplay to activate it. It works after that.
