WORKAROUND FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO FINE TUNE/EDIT THEIR FOLLOWER FACE/HAIR/SKIN/ETC
you will lose your player's look so if you want to save it, go transfer it onto some rando npc to pull from after your companion will also lose their original look to, so if you want to keep that to switch back to later, go transfer it onto some rando npc to pull from after
and by rando npc, i'm referring to an npc that you know doesn't disappear and can pull from later on down the line
open console and type in "slm player 2" (no quotation marks)
face editor will then come up
edit your player's build, face and hair, what whatnot.
(i'm pretty sure build transfers onto companion from my testing)
after finishing, go into third person view where you can see both yourself and companion at the same time on screen
open console, left click on your character so id comes up, and then type in "this" (without quotations of course)
(the this command will pull id and show it in console for use later)
when your player id shows up in console, left click on your companion
(may have to exit and go outside if inside a building or ship, doesn't work for me inside neither)
once you click on companion and it shows their id on screen, in console type "capp" plus your character's id
so for example, it'll look like this "capp 00000014" or something
your edited look should now be on your companion and should stick there for the forseeable future, my companions haven't changed even after i restarted game and pc a few times.
Same issue here, I can give an NPC my appearance, but can't seem to get mine back from the dummynpc, any help? I've done the reverse, but still not working
I can propose slightly modified method I came up with:
Make NPC you want to change their appearance to follow you
Execute in console coc qasmoke to teleport to your personal cloning facility :)
Execute player.placeatme 299f6d 2 to spawn 2 dummy Ghengis Khans (could be any NPC)
Click on one Ghengis and execute capp 14 to clone your current appearance
Click on NPC you want to change their appearrance and remember their <refID>
Click on another Ghengis and execute capp <refID> (use <refID> from previous step)
Execute slm 14 and change your appearance as you wish
Click on your companion and execute capp 14 to give him the desired appearance you currently have
Click on Ghengis with your original appearance and remember their <refID>
Execute 14.capp <refID> (use <refID> from previous step)
Click on Ghengis with your original appearance and execute disable to remove him from premises
Execute coc NewAtlantisSpaceport to teleport to New Atlantis Spaceport
If you want to change appearance of non-follower NPC, before teleporting to QASmoke cell click on him beforehand, then execute moveto player while in QASmoke, then do it in reverse when you're at NPC's original location (if you don't want to travel them normally, its id for coc can be found with help <locationName> 0 cell). You can of course also use his <refID> by executing <refID>.moveto player
Whenever you want to restore NPC original look, just teleport to QASmoke and his clone will (hopefully) be there for your shenanigans.
It doesn't work because after reloading the game he keeps resetting the skin color and tattoos while the rest of the body is a different color. This is so incredibly annoying, do I have to set something in the Cutom-ini?
Surtshellir I also have the same problem, if I reload the game the NPC recovers its original skin color and some other facial properties, have you found a solution for this?
Even better. No need for a dummy!! Use Vasco as a buffer. He doesn't have a human body but copying appearances through him works perfectly. ;) Vasco's RefID is 57be
Been avoiding this but companions are getting very tiresome, there doesn't seem to be much we can do about how obnoxious all their personalities are but hey, a coat of paint will have to do, however, anyone know if we can skip the whole dummy NPC part now we have saveable pre-sets with the "CharGenMenu" mod?
I was going to ask whether or not the changes stick after leaving the game but it seems after reading that they do. Also, it seems that it is possible to save them as a preset. I made a really nice Sarah and a slimmer Andreja. "target NPC" ID.Capp "Source" ID or Player ID.Capp "Source NPC" ID I did this on my ship, the Narwhal. Some of the changes didn't stick, like lipstick for example. I went to an "Enhanced" and then the changes stuck when I reversed from the player to the Target NPC and then the Crew NPC back to me. And yes, the body shapes transfer correctly from "Enhanced." I used one of my crew as the target NPC to store my face and it came back correctly.
for those who cant save companion face details try sicurri on youtube hes got a youtube on how to add txt files after the capp process and it will save after, i tired literally everything and this is the only for sure thing!!!
When I do this and then reload the game, some of the changes (hair, hair color and jewelry) stay, but the rest (face, skin color, makeup) are gone. Is there a way to make all the changes permanent?
The game locks each NPC in a skin tone number, and sometimes assigns a unique facial skin texture. You can assign an NPC anything you want, but the moment you zone away and come back, their locked skin tone will come back.
Example, Andreja is skin #4 (sk3) with a unique facial skin. If you push her to have skin 1 (sk0), she will look paler. But the moment she zones away, you will find her face go back to sk3, but her body remains at sk0, thus, a huge neck seam and skin mismatch.
Some NPC has makeup built into their facial texture. A lot of random NPC has heavy freckles. That is not makeup, that is part of their skin texture. Supervisor Lin has dirty face as part of her facial skin. No matter what you do, she will come back with dirty face.
There is no way around this unless you know their specific texture and edit it. Like this mod Supervisor Lin Clean Face
So I guess as long as you can edit their facial texture, you can "change" their face to match any skin tone you want.
Doesn't work either. I even tried to repair game files. Only in very old savegames Sarah is vanilla but i have no idea how i could transport her appearence through "time and space"?! ;-)
Thanks for the mod! I was able to copy the NPC face onto my PC but looksmenu seems to be bugged, I can always see my character in a hazmat suit. Anyone face this or know a workaround? Edit : NVM its fixed after restarting the game.

I was able to change Sarah to the barista at Mercantile Trading in New Atlantis.
Tested reloading a few times and face stayed after a couple reloads too.
