it's not the rigid moral compass that's the problem with her, as all other major companions have one too for the most part - and so did previous Beth ones like Piper, Nick, and Preston; and yet none of them are as universally disliked as Sarah because she's completely devoid of emotional intelligence and probably couldn't talk about the weather without sounding like an overly judgmental and condescending asshole in the process.
In fairness to your point, this mod is a broadsword, not a scalpel. And it's untested, so I don't know how these changes play out in game. I'm open to any and all suggestions on what further tweaks could be made. Especially if one of the changes makes absolutely no sense in context, since this mod makes no changes to dialogue, only the affinity triggered by a given event.
She doesn't have a stick up her ass she's just a good person. Which you seem to think is a problem. Stealing stuff is wrong, threatening people is usually wrong, and the few times she came off as condescending was when I accidentally killed freestar milita because they got too close to the spacers I was shooting at. Seems more to me like all the people complaining are just buttmad that they picked a companion that doesn't let their antics slide which is pathetically childish as it's tantamount to having Sarah Lions or Paladin Cross as your companion and spending most of your days wiping out BoS patrols then being surprised when they get mad at you.
FrederickBurnham what is childish is leaving a comment on a mod you clearly will never use, calling people childish.
She is not, "just a good person." She's a bitch. It's part of her character arc, and it's pretty clearly implied she's got PTSD and is pushing people away when she feels she might get close to them.
Her whole personality could have been softened to make her less frustrating to people, but they chose bitchy on purpose. Likewise, we can alter that aspect of the game via a mod. You know, like altering ANY OTHER aspect of the game via a mod...
Let me tell you a little story. I'm on some proc gen planet, some friendly mining station, was just looking around, run along some walkway. Sarah following me, i turn around and see her knock over a Ladder, it's a low gravity planet so it falls down the walkway in slooooow motion, i run to the ladder grab it holding E so it doesn't fall down, just about grab on to the end of it, i'm just being considerate of the miners who surely would be pissed if i knocked over their equipment and they had to go down their to carry it back up, right. Welp, Bethesda decided that holding E on items that you can't even put in your inventory sometimes counts as stealing anyway, the Miners get triggered and start screaming and shooting, SARAH goes NUTS, starts screaming back and one-shots the first Miner in shooting distance (they are like level 1, not even a threat) ... tick SARAH DISLIKED THAT, tick SARAH HATED THAT, tick, SARAH IS NO LONGER FOLLOWING YOU ... she screams "i can't be part of this" and runs back to the Ship. ....i'm just standing there in awe, still holding the Ladder. "What just happened?".
Sarah just knocked over a Ladder and Killed someone over it. OK... F your ladder, i drop it and jetpack off, i'm definitely not shooting some friendly miners over a stupid ladder.
I get back to the Ship and there is Sarah in her typical "we need to talk" angry mode. "What did i do?" ..."Don't play dumb with me, you know damn well what you did!" ...effectively she was blaming her murdering that poor Miner on ME. The dialog is of course intentionally being kept vague, it is not like there is AI that spins up a dialog that knows the context of why she is angry. ...but the situation was still hilarious all the same.
Worse, that woman actually informed the authorities and i ended up with a bounty on my head, that i had to pay the fine for.... not her! me! She blamed a murder on me, enough is enough, that psychopath got kicked off the Ship that day and she can be happy it wasn't out the airlock!!!
I'm not ending up like Johny Depp in lawsuits for years because of that delusional psychopath!
"She is a good person with a moral compass" ... No, she is a SNAKE! She will stab you in the back if it gets her own ass off the hook. She is EVIL pretending to be good.
it's pretty ironic how majority of people who pull the 'you're just mad she won't tolerate you being evil' argument (even when nobody remotely suggests that) and will defend her personality at any cost are also the ones who completely missed the point of her entire story arc.
like, she has a full-blown emotional breakdown and starts screaming at an orphan pointing a gun at you and they'll still pretend that this is how self-aware functional adults in a position of leadership are supposed to act lol.
I actually think she's one of the better written companions Beth has done to date, but it's perfectly understandable why so many people detest her - she was intentionally given a complicated personality that you'll either tolerate and be rewarded with some degree of character growth, or simply ignore because why the hell would you put up with optional companions you don't like at the end of the day (or better yet, mod away the parts you don't like).
@Z3R0B4NG lol yes shes as stable as the reactor at chernobyl during the accident ;/ something similar happened to me in first hour xD
i just ran and in a small science hab where 5 geologists were holed up and i hit one of their mugs or something on the floor , so i turned and picked it up CAREFULLY holding E to put it back on the table... expectation vs reality momment xD 2 people started shooting me one scientist RAN OUT into the EXTREME biome without a suit ! and sarah was just yelling BLABLABLA YAP YAP everyone ganging up on me xD so i threw a grenade and killed us all and reloaded xD
i want to upvote your comment 1000x... that is a VERY ACCURATE situation. i am looking for a mod that disables the panic triggered by holding items. can't find one yet.
wtf is this mod. 50% MORE ZEN, actually balances her likes, which gives u LESS AFFINITY, which shouldnt be called 50% zen but okay u wrote it in the description (but just called it alternate version) also FIRING 2 SHOTS IN ANY CITY GIVES -3% ARE U INSANE WHY WOULD U KEEP THAT IN, IT RUINS EVERYTHING, its a f*#@ing mouse button , that s#*! happens
Sarah is a woke Karen, 90% of her behaviour should be rewritten. Her personal storyline is quite good, but her dialogues (insert nonsense moment of contemplation here) and behaviour are absolutely cringe. I'm honestly amazed the idiots at Bethesda didn't make her a futa, though I'm sure they were tempted to do so for "inclusivity".
If you're so objective to people having their own complex opinion then why don't you just use a "trainer" that erases all negative effect? There are many trainers that would do the same thing you want to do w/o messing with the game code.
Meh. Its the internet. If something one does doesn't trigger (often bafflingly) hostility, anger, and/or outrage in some small subset of the community, has one really done anything at all?
ikr ? its gotten too easy to trigger people day by day... now they blow gasket and have their veins popping if you dislike some npc in the game you paid for as if youre not allowed to have any ideals or likes or taste of your own... damn
During the terrormorphs questline I decided to use the livestock, because while it would take longer it would also be zero risk. After all, we had domesticated them and used them for food. The other choice, which had a chance of failure, had a chance of failure. So logically, I chose the option that wouldnt destroy the universe if it fucked up. "sarah disliked that".
Anyone that tries to defend sarah's bullshit affinity system is stupid. I like sarah, I dont think she is a bitch. But there are many times where I do the right thing, the smart thing or both and she just loses her s#*! for no reason. Sarah. The smart one. The moral one.
Seriously, I thought it was just to repopulate a species that humanity had wiped out. The thing that pissed me off about it was that everyone disliked the decision and several quite literally said "you should trust the science." It seemed to me like a not-so-subtle reference to vaccinations in our recent history.
Sarah Morgan spoiled Andreja's arc about 10 hours before Andreja herself revealed it to me. Not sure if this was just a glaring oversight thanks to Bethesda's incompetence or what, but regardless...it relegated Sarah into permanent bench-warmer status for me for the remainder of my play time with Starfield (and that's probably not very long).
I didn't seem to have a problem with Sarah Morgan, the only time I can say she was genuinely upset at me was during the end of the Freestar Ranger story, when I chose to spare Ron Hope and let him continue his work as CEO as long as he wouldn't harass any more innocent farmers. I get back to the Lodge to talk to everyone about it, Sam thinks I'm worthy of the badge and mostly understands where I'm coming from with my choice, Andreja believed I wasn't completely in the right but understands that there aren't a lot of good choices in this world, and Sarah... well, I guess this is what you wanted to hear.
Talking to Sarah about it, she and I both certainly believed that Hope was a piece of work, however, she couldn't understand my decision to let him walk away. My explanation to her was that I just couldn't bring myself to do it because of all the innocent people who'd lose their jobs, but she reminded me of the innocent farmers who were victimised under Ron Hope's desire to save his company, and that they not only lost their jobs, but some of them even lost their lives. I told her I believed I might have made a mistake, she reminded me I very well may have. She was more disappointed in me than anything, especially because of my "Needs of the many" outlook, but in the end, we were just both glad that it was all finally over. She wasn't mad at me as a person, she was disappointed because she expected my judgement to be better, and that's... perfectly understandable. Especially since she's my best friend, she doesn't want to see me go down a slippery slope of making the wrong calls and trying to justify them, she cares about me as not just a friend, but her best friend which is why she's so concerned about me, and I think that makes her a great person. I don't even see her as a companion that just follows you around, helping you kill people and literally carry your burdens, I fully see her as another person, just like you or me, with her own set of ideals and strong convictions that she abides by very strongly thanks to her military background, but also because she cares about you, the player, and can't stand to see you get yourself hurt or follow a dark path when she knows you are a much better person deep down.
Anyway... this is becoming a stupid tangent, and I'm sorry about that. I should clarify that I don't dislike this mod at all, and while I don't intend to download it for myself, I just felt like sharing my two cents on Sarah because of what other people have said below. Judging by what some people on Reddit say, however, it's more of a good thing that you made this mod since Sarah's aforementioned convictions can be a double-edged sword. With that out of the way, carry on, and I can't wait to see what other cool things this community can make, especially since CK2 releases this year.
The ideal would be to have the flavor text effect how the followers see the player. That way when you threaten or kill, the follower takes your comments into account to determine whether you threatened for a non-selfish purpose, or killed for fun. That could be balanced against how much they can tolerate just the lip service to criminality.
But as an immediate fix, I think making Sarah the flexible one makes sense, and kind of balances out how volatile her personality seems. It also differentiates her from Andreja who explicitly expresses a law is the law attitude, with a love of compassionate acts. Andreja doesn't come off as judgemental, so much as craving simple order and kindness as a cure to her past as a smuggler.
Sarah though was military and burned out on command, and says straight from the start that you can act however you want to achieve your goals. Most important, she is the one who makes you steal an artifact from someone by any means. She's okay with theft for big goals, and murder for big goals, and doesn't want to lead, but does it because she thinks she has to, and ends up back seat driving. Getting rid of the back seat driving is good.
I only bring her along , to make sure she's the one that gets killed by the hunter 😂whatever companion you spend the most time with , is the one that dies . So if you actually like one of them avoid taking them with you , classic Bethesda there .
