uuuuh could you explain to me why I would need to delete the whole data folder if I installed texture mods before? I would to do to several and as a noob that sentence throws me kinda off and I dont know what to do now
When Starfield first launched there was (and still is) an issue where specifically texture mods could only work if you installed them to Documents/My Games/Starfield/Data . A data folder location that has never existed for other BGS games. This is an issue because the root game folder also has a Data folder where all mods can be installed, including textures, if you just apply the fix. People quickly figured out that you could resolve this issue and get rid of the documents data folder altogether. So you can install all mods to the root game folder instead, as all other previous BGS games. And it just simplifies everything because you can just download with vortex, and not have to worry with managing files too much. The instructions on how to fix the issue are provided in the description. So again, there are 2 different Data folders when you first install Starfield, and until/unless you apply the fix. The one that should not exist is at Documents/My Games/Starfield (the same location where game saves are stored on your pc). The Data folder you should have all mods installing to is located at your actual game install location, whether you have the steam version or the game pass version. Most mods need to go to that data folder, but some need to go to the starfield root folder itself. But it seems the damage is done when it comes to modding, because people - both authors and users, are refusing to accept the fix and normalize it. It's needlessly complex to keep two data folders for different types of mods. I'm sure eventually everyone will just use the fix, but right now its a mess. Add to that the steam version versus game pass version different install locations and its all even more confusing for new modders. Anyway, if you are currently using the documents data folder and dont want to use the fix, than you can just manually install this mod there and it will work fine. You don't have to do the fix, but it's recommended.
