You only need it if you have mods that allow you to equip multiple clothing items with linings/effects. You don't need it if you can only equip a single outfit piece with a lining/effect, like in the base game.
If you have any mods that add new linings/effects, this workaround won't work for them. It only applies to ones in the base game.

The issue itself is that any clothing lining/effect is applied for as many equipped clothing items with linings you have. So for example, if you have five clothing items with linings equipped with only one being +5 carry weight, you will instead gain +25 carry weight, despite all the linings being different.
This workaround stops the effects from unintentionally stacking, so in that example, you would properly only gain +5 carry weight. However, this doesn't stop any intentional stacking of effects, so if you equipped two items with +5 carry weight, you would properly gain +10 carry weight.
The main downside of this workaround is the different linings/effects will no longer be grouped in the Character Status menu, but I view that as an acceptable loss for having this work correctly. If anyone knows a way to set it up so that there isn't this downside, I'm all ears. I just couldn't figure it out myself.
I was actually looking for a mod where you can put mods (like the ones on your spacesuit, etc.) on your apparel and I stumbled on this. I would love to give this a try. Do you have specific instructions on how to install manually? As I just manually install my mods and make my own mod order (Bethesda Veteran Woot Woot!)
So far, I've got SFSE and 1k texture packs along with some performance plugins for SFSE. Are there mods that conflict with this mod?
I'll say first that this mod doesn't let you to put spacesuit-like mods on clothing, but rather lets you change the effects on clothing (the things like "+10 Health" and "+5% Reload Speed" that appear below an item's weight/value in item cards). I just wanted to make that clear.
There's no special instructions for installing manually, you just need to copy the BA2 and ESM files into your Data folder and enable them in your load order. If you have Bethesda's The Perfect Recipe Creation, make sure to copy the ESM file for that from within the 00 DLC folder. Don't worry about the Stacking Workaround file, as it doesn't sound relevant to you right now.
As for conflicts, none of the mods you currently have should any. Obviously I can't say for sure which mods conflict with this, but the main conflicts would be other mods that also change the clothing effects or makes them craftable, and mods that make changes to Neuroamps. I think most other potential conflicts wouldn't be that big a deal to just override with other mods.
Thanks for this great mod! Everything is working for me except the Stacking Workaround -- no matter where I put it in my load order, it seems to have no effect. (I installed with MOO2). Is there anything else, besides installing/checking it, that I need to do to initialize the workaround?
There's nothing else you need to do, it should work out of the box as long as it's active and you don't have anything else overriding it. If you have multiple items equipped that have base game effects on them, you should see them listed as separate Apparel entries in your character's Status Menu.
However, the Stacking Workaround is only necessary if you have mods that allow you to equip multiple items with base game effects. If you're only using official clothing and spacesuits or mods that set up in the same way as official content, it's not necessary. It also doesn't work with any mods that add new effects without a custom patch.
I appreciate your help. I just tried uninstalling/reinstalling the workaround and putting it back at the very bottom of my load order, to ensure it wasn't being overwritten. I then unequipped all clothing, changed cells (went inside my ship), reequipped my clothing, and it works! The status entries are now separated out, and not mistakenly stacked.
So again, my thanks! I'm sure my original issue was ultimately caused by user error on my part. Also, I want to say that all of your clothing/spacesuit skin mods have really enlivened my playthrough!
I'm glad you got it to work, and that you enjoy my mods so much! That's really nice to hear.
I imagine it was probably the re-equipping the clothing that caused it to update like that, so that's good to know in future if those sort of thing crops up again.
Thank you for this mod, but it doesn't work for me. I am at a loss how to install it. Vortex put the esm files under Windows appdata.... Could you please post how to install this mod manually so it works? I'd really appreciate it.
Vortex doing that with the plugin sounds like some sort of issue with Vortex, but I don't know enough about how it works to say for sure.
However, I'd recommend you try Mod Organizer 2 before opting to install things manually. I'm using MO2 myself, and I found it much easier to use with Starfield than Vortex, though it has been a while since I used Vortex. You can download the version of MO2 that supports the latest version of the game from their Discord.
If you still want to install it manually, then it's pretty much just the same process as manually installing plugins in any Bethesda game, other than the specific folders things are in.
No, that's not something I'll add. The way the effects are set up means that they only work correctly when they're installed on a single equipped item at a time, which in the base game is always outfits.
You shouldn't need to reapply the effects, as nothing about the actual effects changed. It was mostly just technical stuff with the crafting recipes.
As for the rest of my mods, I think the only plugins that would require anything like that would be the Built-In Boostpack plugin in Customizable Separated Starborn Spacesuit (as that's been rebuilt to be more simple and have less conflicts), and the Ember Backfire by Default plugin in Craftable Weapon Skins (but that's easily resolved).
And yeah, with mods that allow you to equip multiple items with effects, it's pretty easy to unintentionally stack effects like that. At least you can see them in your character Status Effects with this mod, so you can see what's contributing to it.
If the clothing items have the base game's slot for having an effect on them, they should work. The easiest ways to test that is to either look at the item in the spacesuit workbench, or look at the item card for the item on the right of your inventory (the thing that has the stats and weight and value). It should say something like "+5% Reload Speed" (or whichever effect it has installed).
If a mod adds any new clothing effects, then you won't be able to craft those effects or change the effects on any clothing with the new effect without creating a patch for it.

Still one of my all time fav mods! ♥ :)

( Including the Misc File "Stacking Workaround" ! \o/ )
Also, now I understand why my reload speed is sooooo fast lol--that stacking effect you mentioned.

Again, THANK YOU for this hella awesome mod, frogs345! ♥
