F'ing Vasco... I'm sneaking around, trying to scan plants or open loot crates or use my scoped rifle to shoot enemies from across the map... and where does he just HAVE to be? Standing right in front of me, with his giant robot dong slapping against my face. No, Vasco, I've told you a hundred times, I don't swing that way. I only like the ladies... and only flesh-and-blood ones at that. So I got this mod. And sure enough, as long as we're walking or running someplace, he keeps a more respectable distance. In combat, too, his positioning is a little better now. But as soon as I stand still for HALF A SECOND... once again "CLANK" and I taste titanium alloy for some reason... and suddenly instead of aiming at an enemy for a stealth headshot or opening a loot crate, I'm "talking" to Vasco. Dude, ever heard of PERSONAL SPACE? I'm seriously starting to think that someone programmed Vasco to be a rap##t. I want to scream at him "dude, get that thing out of my face or I'll cut it off. I just got a new giant saber that does over 100 damage with a corrosive effect, too, so you know I can do it."
"Captain, I must stand DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU WITHIN ONE INCH OF YOUR FACE, so that you cannot see anything other than my shiny white chassis glinting in the alien sun." Vasco, with all DUE respect, I would love it if you would just f$$k off and die now. Or at least stand a few feet BEHIND me, or TO THE SIDE, instead of blocking my line of fire AND my entire field of view. I swear, I'm going to turn friendly fire back on and shoot him in the back, and I won't even revive him. I love how he helps me in combat situations, but as soon as the fight is over I immediately regret having him with me.
Please, I've only just reached the Lodge for the first time. Someone tell me it's not this bad with ALL the followers in this game? Cuz dang so far Vasco has some serious issues with boundaries. By which I mean: he completely ignores them whenever I actually NEED them to be respected. I might have to dump all my followers and run a solo campaign because of this issue. But as I understand it, for about 2/3 of the game it's actually MANDATORY for one or the other of the Constellation people (or some other NPC) to follow you for quest reasons, is that right? Cuz I can't handle that. I may have to resort to burning down the lodge with all of them locked inside.
(This is NOT a cry for help, a threat to any living person, or a complaint about the mod. Just venting some frustration at the way the game handles follower pathing behavior and trying to make it a little bit edgy but in a funny way. Please don't take me too seriously this time, and please try not to get offended or triggered or whatever, that was not my intent with this comment.)
people who say followers stay too close confuse the hell out of me. Did you watch the sample videos? Because the followers lagging really unnaturally far behind and then sprinting and stopping constantly has been an issue in starfield since day 1 and is still a problem today. I'd rather them be too close (but move when you push into them, like in Fallout 4) than literally across the f*#@ing map. Skyrim and Starfield both failed miserably in follower control (Skyrim they were 100% too close), Fallout 4 is the only Bethesda game that felt "okay" and even that wasn't great.
Saying that followers are too close with this mod isn't the same thing as saying the way followers lag behind in the vanilla game is preferable.
The fact is they are too close. They are always right behind the player blocking doorways, getting in the line of fire etc. And this is particularly annoying if Vasco is following you.
With fixes like this, there is nearly always a reason why Bethesda didn't just make the game like that to begin with - this is the reason.
It's not a criticism of the mod per say, but there is definitely some room for refinement. I would like a way to increase the follow distance / time lag a tiny bit, just beyond the threshold where they are constantly blocking doorways.
Hey followers are not very aggressive and sometimes even if I am in combat they only react once they get shot at directly or if the enemy is right on their face.
That sometimes happens in the vanilla game too. Followers need to acquire a combat target in order to fight. Sometimes they fail to do that.
To clarify, the ONLY change I made here is adding a condition which requires that your follower’s combat target actually be in combat before they start fighting. Followers will acquire any NPC as a combat target the moment that NPC starts searching for you. However, if their combat target is not yet actually fighting someone, your follower’s ability to start combat is blocked with this mod. They’ll just have an angry look on their face, from being aware of a nearby threat. In the vanilla game, they’ll open fire before combat starts.
If your follower is standing there with a normal look on their face, then uninstalling this mod would change nothing about their reaction to that situation.
Not without affecting every NPC. This issue isn't exclusive to followers. If I made it possible for them to detect enemies easier, enemies would detect you easier.
Hi Deebz i thank you so much for this mod, however i am experiencing an issue whre I am being shot at, but my followers do nothing until the status changes to danger. I dont have any other combat mods installed, could you perhaps make a version without the combat changes? or point me to how i can do it on my own? I dont usually play stealth anyways so it'd be much appreciated . Hoping to hear from you and hope it's not too much inconvenience.
If your stealth meter is still showing CAUTION, this means the enemies don’t fully know where you are yet, and are blind firing at you. You are still hidden, and thus your follower will not yet engage in combat.
Easiest way to change it on your end would be to open the CK and uncheck the “Ignore Combat” flag on the follow packages. I have a procedure which controls when they are allowed to switch to combat, but disabling that flag will result in vanilla behavior.
yoola, comunidadad, hay alguna posibilidad de mod o comando que haga que tus seguidores vayan siempre armados, me refiero a que te sigan con las armas en la mano y no las bajen cuando lo haces tu, gracias de antemano y los leo
Sorry if this has been addressed before, but would this be compatible with "Gang's All Here?" Read the description, just don't know of that mod's file contents to see whether they would conflict. Edit: Nvm, tried it out and it's working perfectly, thanks for the mod!
I still have the issue that the followers sometimes stand around waiting and not following for some time. Any idea on that bug? Someone else experiencing this?
Yeah same happened to me with my playtrough. Lin just standing in the corner on my frontier ship without animation and I can’t even start the conversation. Is this happen often ? Does anyone know how to “unstuck” her? I’ve tried to unassign her reload the save, nothing. Maybe this mod help ? thanks for your work !

I'm having my companion teleport next to and in front of me when I'm in the cockpit of my ship. This can be quite frustrating.
Could this mod cause that, please?
Cheers.

Not caused by this mod, to be clear. It’s a vanilla issue.
