(21st of January, 2024) I am currently working on a rather big update for MTPBWY-Configurator which will make it a lot more modular and a lot more universal, I am not sure when it'll come out, and if it actually will as I want to take as much time with it as I need so I don't burn out again. I will update this post with further info in time, stay tuned.
Whats included in the next big update? An overhaul of the current "settings" system aka the ini keys that you can change, I will make them seperate from the app itself and interchangeable, in short: You can create new json files containing some parameters that will tell MTPBWY how to set a setting and where to set it, I am quite bad at explaining things, so take a look at this example (this is subject to change throughout development, final implementation may look different):
Before you report a bug, make sure that it's not a duplicate report!
Note for the Mod and what it is and some info about me and why I made it: So, this Mod IS NOT a TOTAL fix for the Game's BAD (more than bad) OPTIMIZATION. Tweaks applied by the Mod will work regardless of the Game's Version (might change some time in the Future if Respawn does change a lot), it will also always bring a Performance boost, even if Respawn eventually (hopefully) fixes the BAD performance. The very first Version (now I gonna expose myself haha) was just a rip off of a config ini I found on the Web, guess what, it actually didn't do anything Face Palm. Then after some time and very appreciated Comments, I finally got something done that actually works. That was til Version 2.2 which included the Configurator. The first Version of the Configurator wasnt really that good of a Software, I rushed it due to the overwhelming Downloads and feedback (literally finished the Configurator in one Night from 2 AM to 5 AM). As in my Profile stated already, I am quite young and I am pretty new to Mod making and App Development. I also suffer from social Anxiety and a more or less heavy Depression. Now since I have a hard time finding happiness in my Life, I made this Project and my other one's as well. It is fun for me to have something to look back and be like, damn, yea this was bad back then but now its awesome. Apart from this, all the kind comments and suggestions put a smile on my face every time xD. I don't have many friends, if any. So I force myself to my PC and work on my Projects and play Games daily which is the only thing that I can do to not lose my Mind.
I hate society, I hate toxicity, I hate myself. But all of you, I love you <3. Big thanks to everyone taking the time to read, or download my Mod!
I've been fortunate enough not to need this (although if someone could execute order 66 on the EA App, that'd be swell) -- just wanted to offer support and thanks for doing this. Depression sucks, I've experienced it and my partner gets it real bad. Nothing wrong with gaming, and I hope you can find a level of social interaction online or elsewhere that elevates your life without adding too much to your anxiety. Much love!
thx for your work, config really helps. I'm not entirely get it, but should i first turn off FSR in game settings before turning on TAA upscale in configuration tool?
Hey Glumboi here to send love and virtual hugs your way. I will be installing your mod today. I just read your post. Thank you for sharing your love of games and modding with me and others. I hope you find love for yourself because from what I read you seem like an amazing person. Take all the time you need relax or go day drinking (its my favorite adult hobby) or go sunbathing. I been kayaking recently in the swamps of Florida and aside from all the flying weird bugs its actually pretty cool. I will check back for your updates!
Just wanted to pop in and say... Thanks for this, and thank you for sharing. It's not easy.
My own therapist(s) would say that "you can't break sticks in a bundle"--meaning you can't expect to solve everything at once, nor can you, especially when working through things like depression and anxiety. However, the more you share (or are able to share), the easier it becomes.
Hope you get around to feeling better, and keep sharing.
Hey dude. Hang in there ok? You have so much more life ahead of you. Take it from someone who experienced growing up with social anxiety and depression, things will get better. In a few years you might be surprised at how much life changes for you, in a good way.
There will always be bumps in the road, though. I wish you well.
Oof, I can feel those PC issues in my soul. This just reminded that I should uninstall iCUE though, so thanks for that. Best of luck getting things up and running again!
I know I'm 5 months late on this, but I just wanted to say that I hope you're well, brother (sister?).
Depression is the most insidious disease I can think of, because even on your best days it's always there, waiting to replace the good feelings with those of worthlessness and hopelessness.
Just know that it IS a disease and NOT a reflection on who you actually are or whom you could actually be, and - most importantly - it CAN be treated with time, therapy, and (for some people) medication.
I don't know where you live or what your insurance situation is like, but even if you have no insurance there are ways to get help that won't bankrupt you. I won't lie, it could take significant legwork, and it may be frustrating at times feeling like you have to jump through hoops to get help, but the payoff will be worth it, I promise you.
Here are some resources to help you get started on finding treatment options for your depression (even if you don't have insurance):
I'm not affiliated with these companies in any way, and I've not vetted them (as I don't feel qualified to do so properly), but I figured the least I could do was share some resources I've found in the hopes that maybe it'll help you find the motivation (and hope) to face (and beat) your depression.
It can be done, and YOU can do it.
From one human being to another: Much love, my friend. If there's anything I can do to help you find more resources, please hit me back.
This just made my day :D, thanks for the kind words and resources, it got a bit better lately (at least with my self confidence) and I have someone to talk to now since a couple months.
Hi Glum, I'm trying to use your MTPBWY Palworld ver but it isn't listed for the tool. I placed it in Palworld's folder and the files from it in the Pal -> plugins folder. Did I do something wrong?
There is a crash that happens consistently in cutscene and right after it,
This happens when you have to chase Bode and his child, when you reach the mantis there will be a cutscene that plays. (Planet: Nova Garon) Right here is where the crash happens, it happend 3x in a row all around the end, These are the settings i used.
After removing the mod the cutscene plays without a issue.
If you need any crash reports (if this game even makes them) let me know.
This just made my day :D, thanks for the kind words and resources, it got a bit better lately (at least with my self confidence) and I have someone to talk to now since a couple months.
P.S I'm a bro xD.
Haha, well alright then bro, I'm pleased to meet you!
I hope things have continued to get a little better for you every day, and that whomever you've been talking to about the things that get you down has continued to be a positive resource for you.
Either way though, I hope you realize that the time you've taken to work on this mod (and your other mods) has been time spent familiarizing yourself with the Unreal Engine (especially in the render path). Further, I hope that you feel good knowing that the effort you've spent making these mods has probably led to you increasing your future earning potential significantly!
I'm a front-end developer, professionally, and no matter how you slice it, diving into (and understanding) potentially abstract concepts like "how does a rendering engine determine resource allocation?" or "which parameters for this specific draw call would ensure the most efficient use of GPU/CPU resources (and thus, best performance)?" is not easy. Just learning how to learn when it comes to complex systems like Unreal Engine is a win in itself, and you've clearly conquered that already. You keep doing what you're doing and your future is going to be incredibly bright, my friend.
And hell, even if you don't see yourself ever doing anything in computer graphics or games development professionally, all the learning and work you had to do to release this mod was time spent getting smarter. I can't think of too many better ways to spend it.
Educating yourself is so freaking empowering, and sharing the fruits of that education (the way you do when you share your mods with us plebs) not only makes other people's lives a little brighter, it'll lead to you learning even more when other folks in the gaming community inevitably reach out to either collaborate with you, learn from you, or teach you something. Sharing your talents isn't a one-way street, I guess is what I'm trying to say. Regardless, thank you again for taking the time to mod this game and to share the fruit of that experience with the rest of us knuckleheads.
Even if gaming, games development, and mod development aren't exactly "saving the world," gaming is (most of the time, anyway) an enjoyable thing that makes peoples lives better. The time and effort you've spent creating this mod is one thing - you choosing to share it with people is another altogether. For some people, gaming may be one of the only positive outlets they have in their life. I hope it feels good to know that your work has helped ensure that for people like that, one of the only positive outlets in their life can be enjoyed just a little bit more.
You should be proud, my friend!
Anyway, gaming aside, I hope you're well, brother. Much love to you and yours. Keep that head high!
I downloaded this mod and watched the video. there are a ton of files & folders in the .zip archive (.dll, .exe, .pub, .json, Plugins, PakCreator, etc) and the one .pak file is only 2000Kb. Do we need to run the configuration exe and generate the pak file? A video on that is what would be most helpful along with what settings to use. This mod isn't just a cut and dry install. assistance please. Appreciate your hard work.
How you install it depends on several things, first would be if you want to customize the mod, if so you would need to create/build the mod using the configurator. If you want to install it to any games supported except for jedi survivor, the same applies.
For jedi survivor, I have pre built paks in the files section which are drag and drop installs to the game. Configurator can automatically install the mod but manual drag and drop to the target game is possible too, just go into the pakcreator folder and look for the pak created.
I have an i5-9300 and a RTX 1650 so kinda on the lower end. So I first installed the potato version and it actually made the game run worse BUT what I did is make a backup of my save file installed the normal version loaded up my game and it was again running worse but this time I saved my game quit to desktop and the booted it up again. and holy crap what difference. Now since my specs are on the lower end it's not perfect but it running significantly better
You'd save my gaming exeperience with your mod, thank you man, this is awesome. However, I wonder how to set every parameters. I've an idea of what it does but I'm not aware of their real impact in game (and I'm too afraid to break my game again). I feel my game a little blury with TAA resolution at 75%, should I try with another resolution ? Or maybe use some sharpening ? And finally, is the view distance parameter really important in game ? (defaultly it's on 0, does it mean the game has a low view distance with this parameter ? I don't know how to ask it better and if I'm clear, I'm not so good in english) I'm not sure how to make a good config setting...
The Checkboxes if you hover over them, will tell you what they do. For the Sliders 0 means off (game manages itself) except for the TAA resolution that will be overwritten even if 0. So a Draw Distance of 1 would be the smallest, 100 the highest. For your case sharpening should do the trick. You also dont need to be afraid of breaking the game xD. The mod is pretty save as of right now and doesnt overwrite any game files, just adds a new file which can be deleted at any time.
Settings explanations: - TAA Gen 5: A better TAA version that also supports temporal upscaling, to upscale from a lower Resolution adjust the TAA Resolution Slider, both work hand in hand, the TAA Resolution can be set regardless though, no need to activate TAA Gen 5 to use it
- Disable Bloom: Will disable Bloom in the entire game
- Disable Lens Flare: Will disable Lens Flare in the entire game
- Potato Textures: Will adjust Texture Streaming to a minimum to increase Performance while trading off a lot of Image Quality
- Disable Fog/Volumetric Fog: Will disable Fog in the game, should boost the performance a bit if GPU bound
- Disable Depth of Field: Will disable the entire Depth of Field in the game, note that certain scenes could look off.
- Experimental Stutter Fixes: This will disable some things related to garbage collection which can reduce stutters, they are experimental and not tested enough to be included by default. Could lead to crashes or less fps depending on your System
- ToneMapper Sharpening: Will enable and adjust the ToneMapper Sharpening if value is above 0
- View Distance: Will increase or decrease the View Distance of certain things, most noticeable with Foliage (Vegetation), value needs to be above 0 to enable.
Your palworld mod pointed here. MayThePerfromanceBeWithYou-Configurator or MayThePerformanceBeWithYou-StandardPackage? Sorry I'm not understanding where to put the mod and pal mod. Does it go in game directory?
It points to the configurator. It's totally to blame on me, not you.
So basically, what all this is about: You download the configurator from here, then proceed to download the palworld zip from the other page. Once you have done that, you extract the configurator to any folder you like. Then you unpack the contents of the palworld zip to the configurator's plugins sub folder. And then, you run the configurator, if it crashes crying about some file path, make sure to run it as admin, if it doesnt work then, well then we are f*cked and you need to report an issue detailing what went wrong.
After I have adjusted the settings in the configurator and hit "install mod", what do I do after that? Am I supposed to launch the game through the config? I hit the play button and it didn't launch, then I launched the game normally and no settings have changed.
If the config app at the top says Mod Installation State: installed And the path for it is like C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Pal\Saved\Config\Windows Then once you have finished configuring the graphics settings just hit Build Mod and it will generate an Engine.ini file at the path on line 2. If the config app dosen't say Mod Installation State: installed Then hit install mod. The order might not actually mater once the mod state is installed as pressing both options updated the .ini file but that is what worked for me any way
That's a good explanation, thank you. Though there is one thing I would like to add, the build button isn't really relevant for users who just want to install the mod on a specific game, installing already does everything necessary for the chosen game, build is more of a "I want to build and share" thing or for debugging purposes/manual installation for games that require pak chunks.
Games that don't require pak chunks for this to work (aka games that actually use the variables passed in the Engine.ini) will not require anything to be built, and just write to the config file/s in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Pal\Saved\Config\Windows
This is absolutely amazing, took me a while to figure out the application but once I finally got it I went from 50-60 fps to 170 fps. Absolutely insane my guy, thank you so much.
Can someone help me? Until recently, I played Jedi Survivor on a GTX 1050, but now I have a better GPU and don't want to play with this mod on potato graphics anymore. But when I deleted the mod from the folder, the graphics were still the same. I don't know what to do. I just want to play on good graphics and not on a low-end PC.
I have a fairly decent PC with an RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 7 3700x and I can usually play most games with High preset settings and above. I was struggling to get above 50 fps no matter what settings I would change and this mod has INSTANTLY resolved it. I just launched (only once before this comment lol so i'm clearly pretty chuffed) and the game is set to Epic preset with DLSS on performance and I'm getting a smooth 60fps and above. Thanks so much for this mod!!!
Hey thanks so much for putting this mod together. I'm early into it, but it really has improved the performance on my Steam Deck. I haven't played a ton, but I'm getting a pretty smooth 40 FPS and basically no stutters so far.
I have just a couple questions - I noticed that performance is worse now when I use FSR , but image quality seems to improve a bit in motion with less ghosting and less aliasing? Any idea why that is?
Also since I'm just using the pak file, does it matter what settings I set in game? Does changing any of the settings make a difference?

Select the preset to be "Steam Deck"
Click "Build Mod"
After the mod is finish building. Upload the PAK file to google drive or copy it on your spare USB drive
After you downloaded or transferred your pak file to your Steam Deck. Put the PAK file in the games folder and everything should work.
Respawn ought to pay you for this, lmfao. Thank you thank you. <3
