This still works. Download the new SubnauticaMap for BepInEx Pack, then open the folder all the way to the biome.json and biomes218.png, and transfer those 2 files into the SubNauticaMap/Maps folder. It doesn't need QMOD to work.
Still not working for me, map still grey once i moved the files over. So i also moved the "NewBiome" folder over too. Still grey when i click on Biome ingame. I must be doing something wrong, any help would be awesome. -- UPDATE -- How I fixed it. When moving the 2 files over instead of the map files being used, it used the grayscale ones. This seems to be a problem for allot of people. First I made copies of this mods map, then renamed them to "example" to match the map mod files, replacing the grayscale maps. Then when I add this mods map. It reads the grayscale, that is now the map we want. Problem fixed, issue forced, life good.
Apologies if I missed something or didn't understand something already posted. I have installed the SubnauticaMap, New Biome Map, and QMod mods and ensured they are up to date. I can't seem to get color when biome is selected. New Biome Map files are not shortcuts.
Something doesn't like the way that Vortex uses symlinks. So go into the subnautica qmods subnauticamap newbiome folder and: 1. Right click on the PNG file -> select Go to file location. This will open a new window maybe where the original file is, copy the PNG file (image file). 2. Go back to the mod folder newbiome and delete the PNG file that is there, then paste the PNG file you copied in step 1.
Fistly, thanks Glacius I had the same problem with my map always being grey. That was ablsolutely the problem.
Secondly, I wanted to share a tip. Vortex was always overwriting the .png with a symlink every time I would redeploy my mods, so I found a workaround. If you rename the .png to something else (I did "biomes219"), and go into the .json and change the target to the new filename, then vortex won't overwrite it every deployment.
This mod doesnt seem to work anymore and just removes the basic BIOME map from the map mod without replacing it with the enhanced one it suppose to give. Dont download this mod!
I just realized that the Map mod already has a Biome map. Just press M to see the map, then click the top left button (says "Topographic" by default).
I therefore don't need this mod (New Biome Map) or any other map mods. If I want to get info about what creatures or resources exist in a certain biome I just check the wiki! Especially since this mod is from 2018 and is a bit outdated about the latest map changes.
I can't tell if this is just a one off, but I found a time capsule in the grassy plateaus that lead to the mushroom forest that borders the crash zone and mountains.
I am playing the Epic games version, using vortex to install mods and map 1.3.6 works fine for me (never had a problem with it) but this appears to be showing the black and white and example.png instead.

I would be very grateful for helpful guidance.

It should work now. I just did this myself.

Open Map options, click Fog -> off.
