Hello people! For those who wish to use custom portraits in their game, replace this outdated mod with "Custom Portrait HD" by MorthyJD. Link HERE.
Your old "CustomTextures" folder should be renamed "CustomPortraits" and your portrait files go here --> Sun Haven/BepInEx/plugins/CustomPortraits. It works on my end!
(Keep in mind that you might have to rename your portrait files depending on which one you decide to use for your game.)
For the people who keep spamming for a 1.4 update. Aedenthorn is on a modding hiatus. She most likely won't be coming back. Her projects are open source. So this mod needs to be picked up by the modding community. Considering that the 1.4 patch did a lot changes to the assets chances are that it will take a while to figure out on how to make this mod working again.
Also it has been only 1 day since the 1.4 release! Chill people and stop spamming the comment section with "gib update, plz!" It doesn't even work with modders, who are active and maintain their projects. It makes you sound like impatient jerks. Mods are created by people in their free time. Don't do this stuff. They know very well that a new update came out. Like duh! Can't make them magically code faster or make them ignore their real life priorities.
That's a bit much if we're just referring to posts here, I fail to see how a few posts expressing positive interest in the work and a potential update equate to spamming or "sounding like impatient jerks". There's no reason to see that from such a negative pov when the posts clearly aren't coming from that sort of stance. That said, I'm thankful for the information, its very appreciated
You may want to spin a positive twist on you guys clogging up the comment section, but I'm not pulling this out of my behind: Modders don't appreciate spammed comment-section. It really won't make them mod faster or giving them an "appreciative push"(which it isn't). All you guys are doing is clogging up comment-section of mods, coming off as impatient and demanding, that are often used for bug-reports or as some sort of help-desk. You may think it an over-reaction, but it gets really brutal and exhausting, even for a mod user, to make your way through the comments of games that have a much much larger modding fanbase.
Fact is, most mods are created by people who use their free time to mod and they often get non to little donations. I don't mod, so all I can do and should do is to wait patiently. Call it modding community manners, as a basic respect for people who provide us with mods.
When the big new update from Stardew Valley dropped (1.6) people kept spamming the comment-section to the point of modders having to lock their comment-sections, leaving an exasperated and pissed off note pinned at the top saying that they know damn well about the new update and this behavior won't make them magically work faster. If you don't believe me then go to this comment section: It looked different during 1.6 release drop time and the pinned comment by the mod author was told them to be patient. https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3168?tab=posts
You may think it doesn't matter, but you haven't seen the mess something like that can cause in giant modding communities such as Skyrim or Stardew Valley. Seriously... it has been 1-2 days since the update dropped. Most of the time mods break during big updates. This shouldn't come as a surprise for people who mod their games. It's crucial to understand this before modding supported games that still receive content updated. Make backups and disable auto-updates. And please be patient.
As far as I can see, YOU'RE the one spamming the comment section. Your complaining and white knighting literally takes up more room on the page than the 5 short comments excited for an update. Maybe you should take your own advice and chill. Especially considering how short, sweet, excited, and overall good tone the update request comments are. I have seen impatient jerks. Especially in the places you mention: SDV and Skyrim. That is not happening here. You sound like the biggest jerk in the room.
@Branwen No worries, I'm sure you have your reasons and meant well , I'm quite sure none here want to cause issue for anyone by making use of comments here or expressing their interest and appreciation for a mod. Thank you for your time replying and informing me of your thoughts on how this could be taken
kind of a childish reply here.. They are letting you know full well this modder is done and moved on and then gave real problems that most of you do endlessly on mods. Stardew even to this day still has broken mods that haven't been updated.. Their comments are full of people doing just what this guy said to not do. Respect the modder and their time stop demanding from them.
@vivi Agree with what you are saying. I don't think its cool to be rude to modders and demand updates and just generally be booty people. I just don't think that is what is going on here. Well I am glad for the update. I look forward to getting deeper into the new patch and seeing any new content from modders for the game. This mod is/was great and allowed us to make the game so cute so I appreciate it a lot.
New to this game and have been looking at the modding community. I feel like, I understand where you specifically are coming from but I think you are forgetting some really important steps that mods should take in order to control these kinds of things. Yes I think spamming a comment section with reminders the mod isnt updated isnt amazing but the developer of this mod has said literally nothing about the hiatus and on top of that has been inactive for 8 months. I think keeping a community updated on occurrences to help adjust expectations is a responsibility that anyone marketing a product needs to do.
In a different actually pre chaotic situation, I think a more mature less condescending way of them communicating the point would of been appropriate and more effective. Good intentions though ofc, Its good the info got here
Confused as to what is going on here XD Does this mean ALL custom portraits and stuff (things that NEEDED custom textures) just don't work bc of the update? And that is why ppl are politely hoping this gets updated?
I just started installing stuff bc of this new update and just now saw all of this XDD curious is all ^^
AHHHH makes sense. well that stinks XD it makes sense tho, since sun haven isn't as big as stardew and so alot of modders would move on, etc. hopefully someone else makes a different custom textures etc. ^^
