I had this problem, to the point I had to disable the mod. I think the autospray logic is getting confused by whatever the mod is doing. Maybe it's racking up a queue of smelly people, or maybe it's looping? I don't know.
I can't say for sure, but it feels like this is an issue deep in the game code, so I don't expect a fix any time soon. If the author says they have an update that fixes this, though, I will definitely test it! ;)
Same, the mod generally works for me in that it actually does increase the population... The problem is clearly in how it calculates the customers... I think it has to do with any customization doing with people playing at tables.
Just downloaded and installed the newest version 2.1 and the sliders are working great. The problem is people won't stop spawning after 9 PM. They won't come in, they will just walk up, shake their heads and walk away but the stream of people just keeps coming and leaving.
I have my sliders set to 100 and 10. They won't come in after 9 even though the sign says open, but if you flip it to closed then back to open again after 9 they will start streaming in until you flip it to closed again. So essentially you can stay on the same day and have infinite customers and just go AFK. Your shop will eventually be empty of stuff to sell but the play tables will give you money and XP infinitely.
I've cranked both sliders to max. spawns @ 10 customers at 20k But i've got no more (if not less) customers than i normally would.... have ran it for 4 days.
The only thing that has changed is my FPS has massively dropped (i presume 20,000 npcs are shopping somewhere else!) and customers on the streets now sometimes enter the shop after it has closed to shop (as reported by others)

Thanks, was broken before the patch for me, newest one still doesn't do much, i'm able to cope with only one person on checkout at level 35, i was expecting loads of people! guess not!
It's a weird side effect and I'm not sure if it's something I've done. Smelly customers have just ceased to exist in my game. Although I'm not going to complain about not having to worry about them it's something I've noticed.
Im getting a problem where the auto scents fire immediately off cooldown if someone is still nearby, even if they're not stinky. My counter is near the door so if npcs line up close to the autoscent, it will spray continuously

Not sure about the steady system, tho... I notice there are times it's slow
