Found an weird issue but not so crucial. GPU usage will raise up to 100% after opening Option menu once, and cause a little fps drop in some circumstances. Would you mind making a version without shadow fix to see if shadow causes this issue?
Thank you for this! The Max Settings one looks stunning but absolutely muders my RTX 3060 ti to sub 50fps. The Opti Settings still looks noticibly better but I am getting over 90fps. I bet if you are running an RTX 3070 or something the MAX mod is perfectly playable. Highly recommended mod!
Max really does look amazing close up, the shadow and lighting quality can't be unseen. For example her glasses will actually cast shadow on the face. All the lights seem a little brighter as well.
Unfortunately, and obviously, it reduces framerate. My problem is that any of the other download options don't have the nice effects like lens flare, which doesn't seem to affect fps that much.
Edit: Is it possible for you to have a version that is a little lower res than max but has all the nice effects?
from those that catch the eye right away - shadows, the range of drawing light sources and shadows, anisotropic filtering, volumetric shadows. but all parameters are affected, the quality of shaders, effects, post-processes, LOD, light, etc. I agree with you, if the difference is not visible - the game is not worth the candle.
Can you explain the changes made in more detail? What does "shadow fix" do? What are the "several unused variables" you added? Can you add some comparison screenshots? I tried taking comparison screenshots myself, but I am having a hard time seeing the changes in game because I'm not really sure what I am looking for.
You can see the changes to shadows in your images. You have a softer, less detailed shadows with the mod off. (you can see it easily with the plants shadow in the bottom right.) Cinematic unreal engine mods basically just make the UN-USED preset graphics settings that the UE makes by default, usable. This mod states it changes literally every variable other than anti-aliasing.
UE has this nasty thing with cascaded shadows, where when geometry is perpendicular to the light direction, it creates striping of cascaded shadows. I got rid of it as much as possible. You'll still see it in some places, but it's a tradeoff for increasing shadow maps.
I got into an argument once with this guy that said his game didn't contain any shadow cascading. Good to see it's existence proven here, and to see that it is fixed! Thank you so much.
Thank you for the update. I think you read my mind when you brought up the cascaded shadows, they look like bands of segmented shadow right? I was wondering if this mod would help alleviate this issue from the base game, but unfortunately at certain positions in the weeper challenge, specifically if you die near the ground lights in the big room next to where it opens into the hallway, it's pretty obvious. Thanks again for making it as well as you could at least.
shadow depth can be shifted even more, but then the shadow itself starts to look much worse from such light sources.there are two or so such light sources in the game, but the variable affects everything.so it's a compromise.
I might be doing something wrong, but sometime around when I added this mod, the DoF effect went away, is this mod responsible? If so, could it be enabled? Everything else looks amazing!
