Unfortunately, denikson's BepInEx pack was not managed properly with Vortex, at least in my case. Although if I disabled stale version it offered to download and install a correct one
So what I needed to do is the following:
Right click denikson_BepInEx_pack or whatever name you have in the list of mods
Open the folder in explorer
It will open something like A:\valheim\mods\denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim-5.4.2101\
If you see only unstripped_corlib inside, unzip the whole file downloaded from denikson's BepInEx pack there
It will now load the pack properly, and the loader console should show correct version in the beginning of the log
Please note, that this issue is likely Vortex-only
this took forever for me to fix... it has to be overwritten in the "C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\plugins\Vortex Extension Update - Valheim Support v1.0.22\BepInExPayload" folder AND the method in this thread too. I hope vortex gets its act together.. this is annoying..
The extension stuff will clobber anything you manually install.
It's not actually Vortex itself, but rather the Valheim extension for it. It does indeed ship with an outdated version of BepInEx (5.4.19) and even though it looks like in Vortex it's updated, it actually isn't, and always sits at that old version. This will continue to be the case until the Valheim extension for Vortex is updated.
i got the update and now its constantly complaining about the changed content..... If I remove the bepin mod and try to let the extension do its thing, it crashes.
Any thoughts on cleaning this out?
edit: ok i removed the mod from the mod list in vortex... and performed a manual install of bepin.. That worked, and the deployment package no longer clashes, and the game actually runs.. it did NOT run with just the deployment package. Very annoying.
There was a comorbid issue with the Valheim Vortex extension that prevented users from being able to use the latest BepInEx. That issue with the extension has now been fixed, at my goading, as of version 1.1.0 (2023-10-24), currently version 1.1.1. The issue previously was that the extension was denying users any agency at all in managing BepInEx, kept an internal copy of it which wasn't being properly updated, and was forcibly overwriting any attempts by the user to replace the deployed version with a newer one. That meant that whenever the game required a new version of BepInEx and the extension wasn't being maintained for some reason, users would get stuck with the previous now obsolete version of BepInEx and break the game, and there was almost nothing that could be done to fix it. (This happened more than once and gave Vortex a VERY bad name in the community.) Yes, if you tried to install a newer version to replace its obsolete one, it would restore the obsolete one! There was a backhanded way to sidestep the issue by replacing its internal copy, but it was messy and the user got no help or advice doing it.
There is now a new Update BepInEx button in the menu of the Mods tab, and the Open menu drop-down now includes Open BepInEx Payload Folder. The button allows attempting to update BepInEx from the GitHub repository, and the Open item takes you to the extension's internal copy of BepInEx in Windows (File) Explorer, where you can inspect or even overwrite it if necessary.
This means that if the extension author(s) yet again drop the ball, for illness or whatever reason, then you now have agency to override or deal with their failure to maintain it. You're welcome!
Is the valheim extension still horribly bloated with excess junk too? The only thing it should be adding is bepinex since its the main core mod you need to have and not posted up onto nexus, Everything else it keeps forcefully installing are optional and should be at the players choice to get them or not.
Apologies if this has already been covered but after flicking through the posts I cannot find an answer. When starting the game im getting the following constantly repeating in the bepinex cmd thing.
[Error : Unity Log] NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object Stack trace: ZInput.GetButtonDown (System.String name) (at <ed65d830ff594fac955d8e92d5393621>:0) TabHandler.Update () (at <dbd2a6fbcde9498cadcacfb37ef883e3>:0)
It only happens when Jotun the valheim library is loaded. I have updated everything and it runs fine if Jotun the valheim library is not loaded so can only put it down as the culprit. mod list below - Vortex user.
First up, remove JotunnLib 0.1.10 (that's the previous library before Jotunn/JVL was created) Secondly, your error is likely caused by a mod that is depending on Jotunn. So remove other mods until you find the broken one
@IreliaZelosKaiOhnRuu please DM me your log file from BepInEx/LogOutput.log. 2.18.2 is only changing a very specific case for rendering sprites for other mods, so it's rather unlikely many mods are affected. In case you are using Vortex, it's known to not work properly with Valheim, I recommend r2modman or manual install instead.
Doesn't work for me. When destroying objects they will respawn infinitely and drop an infinite amount of loot. One tree produces 10,000 lumber. The loot follows you as well so you have a stuck of lumber/rocks/berries constantly pounding into your character following them around. Also the object you "destroyed" never gets destroyed. The animation plays over and over in a loop.
Removed all mods one by one and Jotunn is the only one that resolves the issue when removed. Sucks because I only play Valheim for the ValheimRaft mod, which uses this framework.
Tried backdating to all older versions between 2.16.1 to 2.10.0, which really breaks it. Also tried Jotunn from Nexus and Thunderstore. BepInEx plugin was from Thunderstore so I dont think i'm seeing the Vortex issue. Running private server with all mods matching client version.
edit: Just tested it offline and it works fine but on the private server its still broken. Rebuilt private server using my offline files, still broken.
Found someone else with the issue here: https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/zs5j60/anyone_know_what_is_causing_these_massive/
Issue resolved. After reinstaling addons one by one, the issue seemed to stem from the mod "AnyPortal". After removing that mod Jotunn resumed working fine.
I have no error like this. Some mod(s) in your end is incompatible and/or outdated. Looks to me, that some mod(s) doesn't like the new setting-changes in Valheim latest update. Start removing other mods then Jotunn, and you'll find the bad one.
Thanks, well the Valheim devs have keep working on the game, haha. It's rather unfortunate we don't have fixed Valheim versions and can only rollback limited ones.
Just a heads up: Avoid the mod, Mining AoE It will cause your character to hard lock into menus, unable to enter any world(s), and you will see only a male character named "Ragnar".
You will get the following errors at console too:
"[Error : Unity Log] NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object Stack trace: FejdStartup.OnWorldStart () (at <37016fb1154444bda541f76782d9fa64>:0)"
I can confirm the behavior of the Mining AOE mod. I would instead recommend the Top Mining mod, which solves the challenge a bit differently but does solve it, and does so without this disastrous bug.
modokkal játszok de mióta a jotunn könyvtárat letöltöttem a többjátékos mod lehetetlen, pedig sok mod követeli a jotunnt. Esetleg valaki tud segíteni hogy meglegyen a könyvtár és a többjátékos mod is, Előre is köszönöm.

I have done that for them, just waiting for someone to accept my update
Thanks for the added info, this fixed it for me! ♥

You can usually do this until all mods that depend on Jotunn are updated to work with the new version
